UNREAL - ETHEREAL! GO!! Pre-order the Pig's Head (not on the menue)and get the tails, which are. OH MY GOD (and I'm an athiest!)THe head for 2 is a meager $40 - worth every penny and then some!Buy the kitchen a 6-pack or two (or three. They deserve it!.
I may be too old for this place. The noise level is what i would call deafening, rather than energetic. The concept is nice, and there are a lot of microbrewerie- made italian beers, that you would be hard pressed to find in Italy. The food is delicious but very fatty. I like fatty food, so i liked it, but my wife is more health conscious. I dont think we will be back.
We asked the volume of the backgroung music be turned down, and the manager did so. Did not help much, with also TV on, and the noisy crowd at the bar
Great, unique beer selection. Fantastic. My girlfriend and I shared the pretzels and beer cheese and the prosciutto and venison terrine salumi plates to start, and the pork shoulder special for two as a main course. Everything was delicious.
In classic Vetri style, the ingredients for every dish sounded phenomenal. Unfortunately, the prepared food just under-delivers. GOOD: oysters, pretzel bites, cannelloni, choco-taco. Swordfish pannini, salumi plate, past fagoli, just fell flat. Wasn't terrible, but wouldn't rush back.
NOTE: Server was FABULOUS. Very knowledgeable and had a lovely demeanor.
Everything started off great for me with a greyhound at the bar (fresh squeezed grapefruit always tastes better). We started off sharing the doughnut mixto (recommended highly by the bartender and server). I would buy a dozen of the apple fritters and stuff my face, not sharing a single bite. My wife was over the moon for the pistacio bavarian (a little too sweet and cream being warm didn't do it for me, but quite tasty nonetheless)
The polentu which was everything I'd hoped it would be. My wife enjoyed the fritata. Our friends had the biscuits/gravy/poached egg dish and the squash pancakes which were also delicious.
The Restaurant is very nice, aside from the food being exquisite, the beer selection is very large and once you chose to buy a beer it is a choice that you will not regret. Overall take your friends, wife, lover, etc. to this place because it is amazing. I would not recommend it to anyone who is not 21 because they would not experience the ultimate "Alla Spina" night.
The food was great. Although I was unimpressed with our server who rattled of a novel of specials(some of which where on the menu), my girlfriend and I had a great time.
Great food. The fried chicken was excellent. The venison terrine was very good as well. The beer is a little pricier than I had expected though. Overall, this is another great restaurant from Marc Vetri.
Has great semi private table for big group. Was very accommodating for party of 12.
Very impressed with the attention to every detail in every dish. We were sharing some dishes between 3 that were meant for 2, and the kitchen ensured there were enough garnishes for 3. Our server was spot on when we asked if the amount of food we ordered was enough. She wasn't out to have us jack up the bill and it was very much appreciated. The pork shoulder special was exactly that - superb! The gnocchi were so light and delicate. The Gorgonzola sauce had just the right amount of cheese without overpowering the pillows.
The only reason I withheld a star in ambience is the TV. I'm sure diners demand it. I hate seeing a TV in every restaurant. Especially on a really decorative, funky, wall I don't need ESPN with my luganega sausage.
Great atmosphere, excellent food. Was there for a Victory fixed menu sit down. Highly recommend this place.
Good not great. Very cool atmosphere with lots of energy. High-end bar food. Pretzels, hot dog, fries - all good but nothing too exciting. Great beer selection. A bit high priced for what you got.
We had a great date night here! Great choices on the food menu and awesome picks for the beer list. Everything seemed reasonably priced, aside from a few beers which were a bit pricey for what they were. We got the deviled eggs, Bibb lettuce wraps, cucumber salad, a few oysters, and pig tails... All were exceptional! Definitely planning on returning, however, I think I'd request a different place to sit since we were a little crowded by the window.
Fabulous! Refreshing menu-amazing waitress
The highlight of the evening was the service. My guest and I agreed that the majority of the dishes were over salted.
Alla Spina is great for adventurous eaters who like small plates. Everything we had was fresh, delicious and prepared in a very creative way. Their pork dishes were amazing! Prices were quite reasonable, and there were Happy Hour Specials (drinks and food), which were served until 6:30 PM. Both our waiter and the bartender who served us before dinner were very knowledgeable, and they made good suggestions when we ordered. We can't wait to go back!
It was my husbands 56th B Day and along with the celebration and knowing he enjoys finding different beers, Alla Spina with 50 beers to choose from was an awesome choice not to mention it's a Vetrie and I am Italian. :)
We took our four children and we were all satisfied with the beer as well as the food!!!!!! I don't drink beer so the mix drink with the sherbert on top was dangerously delicious.
The service was spectacular. Our waitress was very attentive and she knew how the food was prepared and what the beer was made from, along with a waiter who as well knew very well how the chef prepared the foods.
The evening was a blast for all!!!!!
We went shortly after they opened and I was unimpressed. Since that time, I think that they got it right. It was very good this time around. The desserts were excellent. One note. There are few vegetarian options, only gnocchi which was great.
Some of the food was good, most was mediocre. Very hit or miss.
The restaurant was very cool looking and the service was good. I had the maple chicken and mashed potatoes which was very tasty and fulling. my friends had the burger which looked delicious, however was very red on the inside which turned them off from finishing it. I would recommend if your getting the burger to specify how its cooked because our waitress did not ask.
Great night dining at Alla Spina. Very much enjoyed watching the chefs execute the pork-centric menu from the bar adjacent to the kitchen. The atmosphere was very comfortable and fun with soft rock providing the backdrop.
I had read some glowing reviews about Alla Spina, so my son and I decided to give it a try for Sunday Brunch. Glad we did. They were featuring all local beers at the time which made our visit even more enjoyable. The waitstaff was very pleasant and prompt. The potato gnocchi with porcini mushrooms was spectacular, as was the French fries with pork cheeks and mozzarella. Can't wait to get back!
We went for brunch and loved it! Fun atmosphere, personable service and the food was outstanding. We loved the cocktails and the coffee. We will definitely be going back.
Was seated in a less than stellar table (and chilly!) towards the back of the first floor near the loo and was less than thirlled with that. The waitgress also sieemed pretty mechanistic and not very cordial. That said, the food was intetersing and well prepared -- loved the (modestly sized) pasta with short ribs and fried chciken. They also must have heeded prior complaints about noice levels since that was not an issue. Would definitely return, but only if seated in the front bar area.
both high end pub and restaurant
I was a bit disappointed in my experience after reading lots of good reviews. Maybe it was an off-night? The dining area was very chilly (temperature-wise) and felt more sterile than I would have liked on a rainy winter night. Some dishes were really delicious (the snails, pig pot pie), while others were downright unappetizing (I personally did not like the taste of the sausage plate we had). The beer list is pretty outstanding - my dining party and I concluded this would'be been a great place to sit at the bar, try different drafts, and have some bar snacks rather than a full meal.
Great beer selection on tap (alla spina) and bottles. Knowledgable wait staff. Made to share appetizers. Small selection of entres. Everything tasted great. Ate entire pork shoulder for two by myself. Great desserts- choco taco was amazing.
Food great but noise level next to unbearable!!
My new favorite spot!! Love this place and the food is fantastic! My husband said the fried chicken would be his last meal!!
Enjoyed the visit, but some may think it is loud. Beer menu is .
Alla Spina was not quite what I was expecting. It is a small plate style restaurant - but the menu is extremely limited. The food we had was all prepared very well - we had carpaccio, sausage, kale, pickles - very good, beef tenderloin and the cannelloni - but the portions are very small, even for a small plate place. In comparison the desserts are huge! I would say this place is good for a drink and a snack, not really a meal. The drink list is extensive - with great Italian beers on tap. Great drinks using prosecco also - delicious.
One of the best happy hours around. The pigs head bruschetta is one of my favorite dishes in the city!
The main menu was without exception, delicious. However, the deserts were disappointing.
One of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. The food was both interesting and tasty and the service was very warm. The beer list is extraordinary and well curated. Precision is the name of the game- Vetri has done it again.
Fantastic place. Great beer selections and flights. Had the roasted pork shoulder with carrots and apples...one of the best entrees I have ever had. Was crowded and noisy but alive with fun.
Alla Spina was a fabulous restaurant find. It's very casual in appearance inside, but the food is outstanding in creativity & quality. I took my 20 year old son after the Army/Navy game with my boyfriend and it was perfect. I'm a personal chef, so I like different types of menus and not standard/traditional fare. We had a fabulous raw oysters from different locations, a wonderful tuna appetizer, a great kale & provolone salad, we tried the pig's tails, which tasted like bacon on a bone! The pork shoulder dish was falling apart tender & delicious. The overall price was pretty high considering the casual atmosphere, but we did order a lot of food. I was impressed.
They have a great beer menu but the food was horrible.
This is a fun, casual space with an amazing menu and an engaged, knowledgeable staff. Perfect for groups so that you can share many different plates, large and small, and experience a wide variety of tastes. Would highly recommend the oyster mushrooms trifolati, the fried snails and the gnocchi (perfectly light and fresh). Also, the homemade choco taco is amazing! Have been here on several different occasions and will definitely visit again!
We love Osteria and Vetri and had high hopes for Alla Spina . We were very disappointed. The menu was very limited. The ratio of "bad for you"/deliciousness was way off in the wrong direction. Go for the beer and stick to the bar snacks.
Alla Spina did not meet with my expectations (which may have been set too high based on the fabulous other Vetri establishments). Loud sports bar vibe, menu confusing, food uninspired.
