About Alla Spina
Inspired by years of visits to Italy and a true love of finely made beer, the Vetri family has brewed up their version of an Italian gastropub with Alla Spina (Italian for "from the tap"). Diners can expect a large selection of both local brews and Italian beers, as well as pub fare including house-made sausages, braised meats and oysters. Staying true to its moniker, Alla Spina is a haven for seasonal craft beers.
Guests can enjoy the atmosphere in a number of ways; in the colorful dining room, at the bar, in a casual lounge space watching soccer or Philly sports teams on the TVs, or when weather permits, enjoying the outdoor seating while looking into the restaurant through the dramatic floor-to-ceiling garage doors.

Un-inspired, awkward, lacking attention to simple details, this Vetri family restaurant was a disappoinment. Our server, through no fault of her own, had no clue when asked about preparations on the menu. Chalk that up to lack of training. We were ordering small plates, one was wings, which normally, and should come split with the tips removed. These scrawny wings were not, and were thus ridiculously messy and difficult to eat. The weirdest part was the table we were given was turned sideways so I was across the "greate divide" from my daughter and her friend. There is a clear lact of attention by management is this restaurant. Get it together alla Spina, you can only go so far with your Vetri name, this experience doesn't do your reputation any good.
Second time here, first time since Vetri sold to Anthropologie. Food not as impressive, but not bad. I had the their mushroom sandwich. It was swimming in beer cheese. I didn't feel well the next day. No one was overly impressed with their meal, and it is not possible to find a healthy alternative. Probably wouldn't go back.
Late-night, last-minute decision to go out ... my wife & I took a friend's recommendation and went to Alla Spina for a drink and a few small plates. Fantastic food, great variety of beers, wines and even a few ciders (I tried the one recommended by our server and it was great!). If you're hungry, the full-plate options look good, too, but for a "light bite and some liquid refreshment" after normal dinner hours, this place is hard to beat.
Ate here a few months ago. It was perfectly fine, it's just that this place has really, really changed from what it used to be. Very surprising. Just your every day "gastro pub." Absolutely nothing interesting or different about it any more. It's not bad, just not what we expected. And pretty empty for a Friday night. For us this is a good thing as we could hear each other and have a conversation, but I don't think it's good for Alla Spina.
So incredibly disappointed. Used to consider this my favorite sport when hosting friends from out-of-town. Now I'm embarrassed. A once quintessential haunt for local Philadelphians has become a lame Gastropub eager to cut corners at any cost. Management must change.
The menu was totally different than the menu posted online. My wife and I each ordered a seafood dish (the only 2 available) and were told 20 minutes later that neither was available, leaving us with nothing we could eat for our anniversary dinner. Luckily, South Kitchen next door was delicious and accommodating.
Great brunch experience. Place is relatively empty at 11 am which was kind of nice. Food was delicious - fried chicken sandwich and the avocado toast. Also the biscuit is a must try. Only turn- the only brunch place I've been to that doesn't offer free iced tea refills.
This was our first time at Alla Spina, but not the first time at a Vetri restaurant. We were disappointed in our meal on Friday night. The pickled/fried cauliflower was tasty, but the Clam Boil was very over priced for the portion, and not particularly flavorful. The beers and Prosecco were delicious.
My husband and I went to Alla Spina for a late dinner. Some items on the menu were unavailable but we enjoyed some creative cocktails. We ate seafood and salad which were okay but not remarkable. We did enjoy the pickled cauliflower.
Our waiter was very personable and attentive. Much of our time there was disturbed by a group who seemed to be playing a game at their table and shrieked every few seconds. The waiter seemed uncomfortable to act on my suggestion to let the group know they were disturbing other diners. Aside from the noise the atmosphere was pleasant.
We might return to Alla Spina for drinks.
Loved the ambiance and the feel of eating outdoors; as we sat next to the outdoor seating. Specialty drinks and beers were fantastic, and food very tasty. This is the place to go if you have an eclectic palate for food, cocktails and/or beer. Simply delicious.....
Philly Beer week. Fabulous salad. Some terrific beer. Stellar service.

This is an old lady comment. Need to balance the high fat dishes with a few heart healthy main courses. Or just decide not to have a main course and take an extra Lipitor
On May 14th, Mother’s Day, I joined my family for a 4:30pm dinner reservation at Alla Spina. It is a casual restaurant located on Mt. Vernon Street in the Art Museum area of Philadelphia. There is a hostess at the door to check reservations and seat patrons. Shorty after being seated I placed my purse under my chair. Unfortunately during dinner my wallet was stolen from my purse resulting in losing hundreds of dollars.There were at least 2 people who came in and seemed out of place, a man and a woman. They lingered by the pool tables, not playing, just chalking a stick, looking around…never played pool. The gaming tables although in a separate area from the dining tables are clearly visible from both the dining area and the hostess stand. The man, who we noticed just wandering around eventually sat behind me at an empty table with his head down appearing to be talking on his phone. We assumed this MUST have been an employee on break because we did not think anyone could easily walk in unnoticed and sit down at an empty table. He was there for quite a while with no one questioning him. During the time he was at the table he maneuvered my purse from under my chair with his foot, grabbed my wallet and pushed my disheveled purse back under my chair. He moved from that table ONLY when a family came in who was seated there by the hostess. It was at that moment he was beckoned by his accomplice that was standing directly in front of the hostess stand to hurry and leave. I share responsibility for not being more suspicious, for thinking I could relax and have a nice dinner with my family.After leaving several frantic phone messages early Monday morning, the manager, Ryan Browning, called me at 3pm Monday. He offered me a vague apology in an effort to pacify me. He stated employees had noticed these people acting peculiar however they were "too busy" taking care of their patrons to act on it quickly. The management has no interest in what occurred. Shame on them!
Not only was the service terrible, the food was disgusting. If you're looking for "unordinary" versions of normal American food with a focus on pork, then I guess this is your place. Half of our table did not have utensils, and after asking the server 3 times for utensils he brought out the food without giving us our utensils. I literally had to snag them from the table next to us after being so fed up. When we asked for salt and pepper (which should have already been on the table) he brought them out in the same dipping cups as my ranch sauce (which didn't taste anything like ranch), and 1/8 people in our party "enjoyed" their meals. We also noticed our server "chilling" and watching the basketball game that was playing at the bar. We are usually not people to complain to the restaurant manager, but when we let the server know how disappointed we were in the quality of the food he started arguing with us saying "well that's what you ordered." Instead of getting the manager he decided to hide from our party like a little kid and I had to go up to the host stand to request to see the manager. When the manager came over he discussed they were not expecting this many people in the restaurant (even though it was the weekend of Penn and Temple's graduation, as well as the Susan G. Komen race for the cure). He only took $50 off of a $200 bill, which we were still unhappy to pay. He apologized for the service and asked that we'd come in again to experience "better service," which is hilarious because we were so disgusted with the food we would never step foot back in this restaurant. The only thing our party enjoyed out of the entire meal was the fries. Thus, if you do go here, just save yourself and only order the fries. P.S. Bring a flashlight and get ready to scream at the people sitting across from you!
The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious... when we got it. We did not have the best experience here celebrating my husbands birthday. It took at least 20 minutes for drinks and nearly an hour to get our food. I am not sure what was going on with our orders but they were not being executed properly. When my kids steaks finally came out, they were cold. But no one ever came back so we couldn't notify a server! The rest of our meal came 10 minutes after that. It was kind of a disaster. That being said, they were very nice and comped part of our check. I would actually go back there again as it was good. I think they had an off night, service wise but I would give it another chance!
I was quite disappointed in this restaurant. My hopes were up given it is a Vetri scion. My companion and I shared a dozen oysters. They were perfectly clean tasting but very bland. OK, that was the type of oyster offered. But, then I had the "cheese steak" with a house salad. Both were very mediocre. The cheese sauce was almost tasteless, the pork sausage was OK but the pretzel bun overwhelmed it. Blah. The best part of the dinner was the soft-serve mixture for desert--a great dream-cycle. Oh, and though we asked for oyster forks twice they never appeared. My companion had the white bean "humus", which was also bland and almost tasteless. When he ordered some bread, we were told they didn't have any. I was tempted to order a sandwich and ask the waitress to hold them ham and cheese but she was too young to remember the scene from Five Easy Pieces. Alla Spina needs to get hold of itself. On my scale from 1=good, 2=very good, 3=excellent, and 4=yummific, this scores a 1.5.
This was by far the worst experience I have had at Alla Spina, unfortunately. We made a reservation for a party of 10 and were squished into a smaller table, which was not the end of the world, we made do. The service was incredibly slow, however. We were left without our ordered drinks for 20+ minutes and had no water for the same amount of time. One person in our party did not get his meal until everyone else was almost finished. The "applewood smoked bacon" was most definitely not the same applewood smoked bacon that I have been served before. The toast for the avocado toast was not toasted, it was just stale and hard to bite into. The end of the meal was the worst - we sat around with finished plates on our table for a long period before anyone came to get them. When a server did come, they left so fast we couldn't ask for the check. That took another 10 minutes to get. We actually had to walk the check over to our server to have her swipe the card so we could leave.
I've had much better experiences in the past, not sure what happened here. There was an event in Philly, but this restaurant had to have been more than aware. It's not like we went in without a reservation.
Disappointed in my Latest trip to Alla Spina. Our waitress was really strapped and the food was slow to table. We ordered a second round of drinks which didn't come until we are nearly done with our meal. $11 for a Bellini? It was the smallest pour I've ever seen. Very disappointed because most times I've had a great experience there. It was the day of the Broad Street run and so they knew it was going to be busy - every table was packed.
We had a group of six with friends visiting from NC so wanted to show them some of Philly on the north side of Broad Street. It may have been a mismatch of expectations. The menu is interesting, the beer selection is great. Our waiter was somewhat non-attentive even when it wasn't busy, with a big distracting picture of dog on his t-shirt and a pretty casual attitude about taking care of us. The loaded french fries special was ok- fries w/ sauce, two of had calimari salad, which was supposed to be on arugula, but was on spring mix w/ no explanation of the change. Last- I ordered coffee- never came- reminded the waiter who then brought over coffee that was lukewarm. Amazing how a restaurant would not have hot coffee ready. Not a match for us.
Came on a Friday night and it was overly crowded. Drinks were excellent! Food was great - Crispy pig tails (could eat a whole plate full), North Philly Cheesesteak (delicious, a touch too salty) and Carbonara Mac-n-Cheese (a bit bland, needed the egg to be less cooked to coat the pasta, a little on the dry side).
Service and ambiance were great! Will definitely come back and recommend to friends.
Service was on the slower side Tuesday night. It took a while to get drinks and our server was less than enthusiastic/wasn't super friendly, but did his job. Our food took over an hour, which is a bit understanding since it was a party of 9. We didn't complain but the manager sent out 2 orders of pretzel bites (which was SO nice) but he brought them out literally 1 min before the food arrived, and they were cold upon arrival, so we didn't even get to enjoy the free appetizer. Haha, it's the thought that counts. Also, they were out of two entrees which a few people were hoping to get-- the steak and the pig pot pie. Disappointing. The bucket of chicken was good and so was the Mac & cheese with the fried egg. Overall it was fine, but nothing my family from out of town would rave home about.
Met friends at Alla Spina specifically for the $1.00 oysters. And the oyster eaters were quite happy with the James RIver oysters that were offered. The place has an industrial feel -- lots of metal and pipes and graffiti. It was not packed on a Monday night, but still had considerably high noise level.
Burgers were great, drinks were great, and our waiter was great.
