Always excellent selection of food and cocktails. The speed of items brought to the table was a bit rushed, two at the same time once, but overall great food, service. I would highly suggest a visit to anyone who likes small plates, but sadly they are closing next weekend.
A perfect evening - wonderful service, creative beautiful healthy food, spectacular cocktails, beautiful surroundings. Everything was perfect but the fried chicken ... truly amazing.
Excellent food and unbelievable cocktails! Sorry to see that they are closing. Can’t wait to see the chef’s next incarnation.
Sad to see this place go, but happy I got to enjoy it once more before it was gone!
Service was excellent, but several of the menu options were sold out for the evening. The food was okay. The drinks were fantastic.
Second trip to All Purpose and must say it was just as good as the first. The food is really top notch. Was with a party of three and tried nine plates and all of them were great. The octopus was especially good. Perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Service was great. Highly recommend.
AP never disappoints!
Food is always delicious and we love the creative small plates. Have the roasted cauliflower, gazpacho, bacon wrapped dates and grilled octopus.
Everything we ordered was brilliant and we thoroughly enjoyed our in depth conversation with Justin.
This was not our first visit to AP and having enjoyed our previous visits we were looking forward to a great meal. Unfortunately we were underwhelmed. Both my appetizer, Bacon Wrapped Dates, and main course, Corn Risotto Carbonara, were served too hot to eat and slightly burned the inside of my mouth. In addition the risotto had very little flavor. The wine choice, as recommended by the sommelier, was good. The service and ambience were also good but unfortunately the food was a disappointment.
Great service. Fairly good food.
Very good food but probably size for side dishes (cauliflower) were too small to share despite comment from server. Also service was inattentive at times.
Just didn't love the sweet corn risotto. Pretty lackluster. Tasted like salty porridge.
As always, we enjoyed AP. Excellent food, nice ambience and attentive service. Our waitperson was pleasant, but seemed to want to rush us to order and to turn the table. Otherwise, a very nice dining experience.
Fantastic. Every time. Great wine list, great food.
My wife and I along with our son and daughter in law had a great dinner at AP. Our server Morgan was very good and did a great job taking care of us. Our food was very good as well. We had the Hamachi Crudo and bacon wrapped dates to begin with, kale and apple salad, lamb and cheeseburger that we split between the four of us. It was a fun time and the wine was excellent. We will be back.
Our experience was ok. Some food really good ( date appetizer), some not so great (the lamb). Our server was friendly and helpful and the place had a nice feel to it but I would not race back. I would recommend it to others to try because overall it provided a nice evening out.
The service was top notch, and the food was a great mix. Made a meal completely off of starters and small plates.
we have eaten there many times, usually good.
this time lamb was awful: poor taste, tough, overdone
chicken ok but dry
the bartender/waiter good as usual. great drinks.
food very disappointing
This was our second dinner here with friends after an excellent meal the first time. Appetizer of octopus panzenella and beet salad excellent. Burger and fries are great. Chicken good. Leg of lamb came too rare so maybe because of that it wasn't tender......quite chewy. Should of returned it. Dessert great. Service very attentive but not intrusive. If you order the full array of drinks, share appetizers or salad, entree and shared desserts, you end up spending about $85 per person.
It really is a special place. We definitely will go back.
AP is great for dates - especially if you like to share food with your date. The menu is always good and always changing - thanks to chef Justin Anthony. And thanks to everyone else at AP for Another Perfect meal!
Best Restaurant in Milwaukee...
All Purpose for me is integrity and passion, offering you a heightened experience of what a really good restaurant is, and what every restaurant should strive to be. All Purpose cannot possibly serve you a bad plate of food or a bad cocktail because they care too much.
All Purpose crafts everything with care. The Food is delicious and very creative with a slight nod to Italian cuisine and the presentation always looks beautiful. Really great selection of wines, with Beverages and Cocktails that are properly made with careful thought and they arrive in a timely fashion. The atmosphere can be busy and is never loud. The owner is always present and he is part of the impeccable service along with the entire staff being attentive, keeping your wishes in mind, ensuring you have an exceptional experience. The staff has absolute product knowledge, leaving nothing available to question. Silverware and plates are routinely exchanged so you always have clean utensils in front of you. You will never sit in All Purpose with any type of a mess in front of you. The menu of All Purpose will ensure that there is something for everyone.
I am an American with dual citizenship with Italy, I have lived in Germany, Switzerland and France. I was an award winning server in Paris, France, where I lived for a couple of years and still vacation to every other year. I have been to a lot of places on this great earth and I have dined in some of the greatest restaurants imaginable, restaurants with Michelin stars where you know that you will have a wonderful experience.
The bottom line is: I drive almost an hour to go to All Purpose because it's more than worth it.
Great to see creative menus to try new things. Service was spot on.
Easily our favorite restaurant in Milwaukee. Unique menu, excellent wine and wonderful staff
Wonderful little gem. Understated with a limited but excellent menu. We shared the Brussels sprouts ( don't miss these, made with goat cheese and are superb) and the spicy broccoli for appetizers instead of sides. The coho salmon was cooked perfectly and served crispy skin side up. So wonderful. Our server was perfect too, knew all about the menu and was super pleasant. Highly recommend.
A diamond in the rough. Hard to spot and unassuming from the street, and beyond the front door, a treasure. We've already told several foodie friends about it, and look forward to going back. Lucky Milwaukee.
Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. The lamb was terrific.
Our server Morgan was so attentive and very friendly. The menu was creative and made it hard to choose. We ended up with three small plates and two entrees for two of us. Yellowfin tuna sushi style, stuffed dates with bacon and goat cheese and yummy pan fried Brussels sprouts again with goat cheese. Entrees were hanger steak and lamb tenderloin. Portions were reasonable size to allow multiple choices. Had to rush out for theatre but Morgan sent a bag of cookies (for my birthday). We will be back.
Ever find a restaurant that feels like home but the food is 10 times better and people are waiting on you for once? That's AP. Both wait staff and food were 5 star. Loved it!
This was our first visit to All Purpose. I was visiting my dad from Boston and looking for a restaurant to celebrate Father's Day. The cocktail list was great and the food was exceptional. I liked that there were small plates to share and full entrees. Plus, the interior is lovely... contemporary yet cozy. I real find in Milwaukee and we'll definitely be back again!
Server was amazing, service overall top notch and good was spectacular!!
The brussel sprouts were fabulous as well as the salmon. Don't forget the chocolate bread pudding!
Wonderful food, atmosphere and friendly staff. Very welcoming.
The food was excellent. We split 6 items and everything was awesome. Scallops and sunflower salad were our favorites. My only complaint was the cost - I was prepared for it to be pricey but it was more than expected. We've eaten at most of the trendy Milwaukee restaurants and our total bill was in our top 3 ever.
Everything was great. Food, service and ambiance. Brussel sprouts is a must.
This time was disappointing (a few weeks ago it was excellent). Hanger steak was undercooked and rubbery. Overall, food lacked flavor and some of our dishes were greasy. Not sure how soon we will be back.
AP always serves up an inventive menu of both food and cocktails. The fried chicken is fantastic and so is the burger which comes with absolutely incredible fries. It's a great stop for anything from a small plate to a full dinner.
Very interesting: the five of us ordered in total maybe 10 small plates and two entree-sized plates. All shared, all delicious. And I have to say, I ate things here I have never eaten before, like Nettle Risotto -- awesomely good. Many foods locally sourced, like radishes with lemon butter and sea salt: who would have thought this amuse bouche would be fabulous! Small-ish local place serving up great food. Go for it!
We went here to celebrate a college graduation. We were initially seated next to a very loud person. Not the normal chic restraint loud but really loud. The staff reseated us right away and every bite was awesome.
Exceptional service, nice ambiance and absolutely fantastic cooking!
Excellent server who anticipated our needs. Slightly limited menu, but everything was high quality and tasty. Loved the ambiance/decor/candlight.
Made a reservation for 2 and at the last minute, our 25 year old daughter asked to join us. When we arrived at the restaurant, the owner greeted us at the hostess desk. When we asked if we could add a 3rd person to our reservation, he acted like we just asked him to sacrifice his first born! Yikes! Not a great first impression. We completely get it if that meant a 2 top changed to a 4 top so we offered to just sit at the bar. However, he continued to make us feel like we were a huge inconvenience. That said, we sat at the bar and proceeded to spend our $165 there rather than at a table in what turned out to be a not so full restaurant this Wednesday evening. The bartender was attentive, the food was good but not "wow". Will we go back...I think so. But the Metallica T-shirt wearing owner should not be the front man of this place...he would be better served hanging back in the kitchen.
Took my in-laws here for dinner. Small restaurant, very noisy!! Close quarters along with very loud acoustics made for difficult table talk. Small plate appetizers very tasty!!! Kale and apple salad very good!! Price was moderately reasonable. I chose the scallops for my entree, I was so sad to take the first bite and realized they were sandy, 2 of the 4 were full of sand. I was hesitant to order them because I know if they aren't cleaned properly this is a possibility, but I took a chance and unfortunately was disappointed. I did not complain to the waitress, because I didn't want to ruin the evening or appear to be difficult with my in-laws. It's not that I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to others, however with all the amazing restaurants in the area, I don't think we will return.
