Despite mixed reviews, decided to try during restaurant week as a featured menu item seemed too good to resist: soft shell crabs with stoneground grits with corn and scallion with a hot honey drizzle. Sigh. The crabs were good, but the rest was a big disappointment to my palate and to my digestive system. The grits were so studded with overcooked, dry chewy corn, cheese, pepper and scallion that they had none of the creamy appeal of grits and managed to be devoid of flavor. I was not expecting the "hot honey drizzle" to be a mix of honey and tabasco, and clearly inferior vegetable oils were used throughout.
The atmosphere and the service were great, however, for the price, the food was not good at all, very poor quality. The "cheese plate" consisted of cheese cubes, similar to what you'd see on a party platter from a grocery store. The steak was very fatty, full of gristle. The broccoli was chewy.
Great for a quiet business dinner. The server we had was attentive. The only negative was the entrees were brought out before both appetizers were completed but otherwise meals were good to taste. Everything was cooked as asked. The price was excellent for food and drinks.
We went here because it was convenient, but I would not go here ever again. It was during restaurant week, and neither the food nor the service was acceptable. From the cheese board with cheeses that looked like they were taken from your local grocer's dairy aisle to undercooked steak and dried out fried chicken, we couldn't finish any of the food. Our waitress was equally not helpful nor did she look like she was happy to be there.
Servers for 1/14/17 seemed like replacements for trained staff; nice enough, but clearly not trained for waiting in such an establishment. Upon arrival of a neighboring party of about 8, attention to us was significantly diverted.
Food was plentiful, but lacked finesse: soup was too salty, salad had too much dressing, and steak was undercooked, and octopus (although good) was smothered and overpowered by the topping. Requested that steak to be cooked further; after waiting about 10 mins (while other party was waiting on), other diner was almost done with entree.
Lastly, space seemed too open - not a problem, per se, but not having any muzak made for an atmosphere like one of those almost-defunct department stores. If it wasn't for the scope and quantity of the food offered for the promotional price, I would say it wasn't worth it.
No sign in the lobby when you walk in. Basically just another mediocre hotel restaurant. Our waitress was either bored or sleepy. I ordered the seared tuna rare and it came out well done. Food was just basic, nothing special. Rather disappointing compared to the great restaurant options in Baltimore. I didn't feel like they tried at all.
We live in the building and love that it is here. We would not utilize it if it were not good, everything is tasty n they are accommodating.
We have brought friends who are pleased n surprised.
Unfortunately it has a bad reputation due to change of names so often, n chefs that don't stay long.
We continue to support.
While Alizee has been a good choice of restaurant in walking distance from the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus, I discovered that I really like their herb roasted chicken platter. It has the recommendation of the staff as a meal to eat with the hands. When properly cooked, it is a winner in my book!
Given it was one of the last spots available with a reservation on Valentines Day (should have been a warning sign). Waitress didn't know the food (even with a majorly consolidated prix fix v-day menu). 20% Gratuity was auto-added on even with our party of two. Prix Fix had good selections but with a four course meal they need to be taught how to serve. Every dish was brought out too soon and left to the side. The "lobster tail" on a skewer was incredibly overcooked and the table next to us had the same issue. And with vast seating availability they continued to sit parties right next to each other. Bad experience, poor knowledge from the staff, overall poorly run facility unfortunately because the hotel looks decent.
We waited fifteen minutes for a host/hostess but never saw anyone. A waiter and a waitress caught our eye, but still no one came to seat us. We finally approached the bartender and mentioned that we had a reservation, but she snapped at us and said that she'd give us a menu but there was an hour wait. We left without eating. We would expect far better from a nice restaurant! Very disappointed.
This restaurant was awesome! I randomly picked it for a friend's birthday lunch since it was close and the menu was eye catching. Who knew I would experience such an accelerated day of great customer serve, super fast service, delicious food w shareable portions and beautiful ambience!
Having recently had a baby, I wasn't ready to take on the demand of preparing a Thanksgiving meal for 10 people. Instead we made reservations at Alizee. It was the best idea ever. The buffet was extensive and the food was delicious. We were also served a complimentary glass of champagne. The dining room was able to accommodate our large party and we were able to stay for a couple of hours without feeling rushed by the servers. Great food, nice ambience and no clean up. The baby slept through her first Thanksgiving and I think we started a new holiday tradition.
A group of us met at Alizee for a late dinner November 2, 2015, after an event at Johns Hopkins. The service was extremely good - the waitress was attentive throughout without being intrusive. The food (crab cakes and veggies all around) was very good and everyone at the table enjoyed the meal. We will definitely come again.
This place has a great bar area for and all dolled up for hotel guests. If you are just going in for a drink, you can still use all of these great amenities, including the large TV screen and beautiful bar with outdoor seating beneath the gorgeous columns at the hotel entrance. The dinners are pricey, but large portions, perfect for sharing! Everything we had was delicious and exactly as expected. This is not quite a "foodie" spot, but you won't be surprised in a bad way either. Our only complaint is that they were out of draft beers when we were there.
We are not from Baltimore but were down there for my daughter's college graduation. We booked the restaurant based on Open Table reviews. This is so misleading. Alizee is a hotel bar/restaurant in the Doubletree hotel. Nowhere in any of the reviews or descriptions does it say it is a hotel bar/restaurant. The food was way below average and the ambiance awful. We could have worn gym clothes to this place and been well dressed. The restaurant was very poorly staffed and the waiters were doing double duty running food up to rooms for room service. We had 3 different waiters, all trying to do their best, but failing due to the serious understaffing. It took over an hour for them to take our order and even longer for the food to come out. Due to the understaffing, our table was very poorly attended to and except for the great company of our friends and family, this was an awful dinner. And I hardly ever say things like that. Beware - this is a substandard hotel bar/restaurant.
It is unfortunate that the restaurant has changed hands several times causing people not to return. Atmosphere is fine and food is good. Nice menu and staff, even though limited due to limited patrons, is friendly and always willing to provide assistance in ordering. I hope people will try the restaurant.
My fiance and I went here for Valentines Day dinner. We are not from Maryland but tried this place because of the photos of the restaurant and reasonable Vday menu. The ambiance was great. The food wasn't bad. My fiancé's steak was undercooked. How do u get well done wrong??? His lobster was dry. My food wasn't bad. The host Ricardo was the best part of our visit. He was accommodating and polite. He offered us a free lobster due to my fiancé 's being overcooked. However, that lobster was rotten. 😩 we didn't know until we got home. Ricardo took a picture for us as we left. We weren't terribly disappointed but we think it could have been better. The price and value of food was good. The wait staff was nice. The service was a little slow for the restaurant only being half full at 5:30 pm. Either way we enjoyed ourselves.
