My husband and I attended the crab pop up at Alfie's. It was a lot of fun and the crabs were delicious. The only issue was that the restaurant was extremely hot. I don't think they had the A/C on and there was a single ceiling fan trying in vain to keep us cool. Make sure to dress for the occasion.

My friends and I stopped in for the pop-up all you can eat crabs. Everything was delicious! I had the all you can eat crabs, they had 2 of the burgers. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The fries were delicious, the crab soup was AMAZING, the crabs were well seasoned and the drinks were affordable. I would definitely go back to try some of other pop-ups Alfies offers in the summer. We were seated immediately on the patio. The staff was attentive and we didn't have to wait extremely long for food! SO glad I got to experience it!

I visited Alfie's for the first time to celebrate a birthday by taking advantage of their all-you-can-eat crab pop-up. The crab was delicious, the corn was juicy and perfect, and the beer was cold. I'll definitely return, regardless of what they're serving next time!

I believe this place is mostly pop-up. I found it on opentable for a seasonal all you can eat crabs . I took my husband for fathers day. The service was a little on the slow side given that it wasn't that busy. The crabs where ok some batches better then others but overall it was a great option for the price for $35 per person. I would go back.

Great, cozy spot in Shaw. Reggae and Jamaican jams on the music system, cool cocktail selections, very friendly bartender and staff. We went for the all you can eat crab, and were not disappointed! Well-seasoned crab, not overcooked. Also tried the potato salad, which was phenomenal. Can't wait to go back and try the fried chicken platter and other menu items! Will be back next weekend!

I only visited this spot because they were advertising "Med-Large crabs all you can eat for $35". I must say the crabs were Small but plentiful. The spice they used had a very strong black pepper base which was too spicy for me. I asked for spice on the side. The place smelled old and looked dingy. The service was good and staff were attentive. It was not as advertised but for the money I won't complain too much.

Alfie's simply is one the best restaurants in D.C. A neighborhood gem, the customer service is one of the best in the city, not in a fussy way ,but in a "I want you to have a wonderful, comfortable time eating at our restaurant" way. Food is superb. Drinks are inventive and delicious. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Great food, good drinks! I had never had Isaan style Thai food before, but I will be searching for it back home! Alfie's will become a go to for us when we visit the city. The atmosphere is buzzing, and brings your mind to a small restaurant in Thailand. The only issue we had was that our server left half way through our meal to go across the street....and didn't come back! But the very friendly bar tender hopped in and helped us and the one other table she left sitting. All in all, a great meal and we will definitely be going back!

As former Peace Corps volunteers in Thailand, we went in expectation of good Northeastern Thai food (Issan) which is hard to find. While my husband enjoyed his barbequed chicken (gai yaan), my beef salad (nua nam tok) was so spicy (even to an experienced Thai foodie like me) that it was inedible even with sticky rice. Not only did it set my entire mouth on fire, but some of the beef pieces were so fatty I had to spit them out. On the other hand, my vegetarian son had an extremely tasty veggie burger! Also, the restaurant inside area was cramped and had intolerably loud music, so we sat outside which was overly hot and sunny, and facing the heavy traffic of Georgia Avenue. So while the concept of this "pop-up" was fun and the servers were exceedingly pleasant, the overall experience was not.

I love the food and the friendliness of the staff at Alfies. It's great authentic, spicy Thai, and the burger is great. But twice now I've gone with reservations and still been seated 30-60 min after my res time, and twice now I've had to flag down servers for more water, more napkins, etc etc. Without any consistency, I'm finding myself less inclined to keep coming back. :(

Be forewarned, when the menu says "very spicy", they're not joking! It's not "American spicy", it's the real thing. In general, they have caused me to redefine Thai food. The way they blend flavors with fresh ingredients is a real testiment to the chef. Portions are small enough that 3-4 plates can be shared by two people, and I suggest that one of those plates is a burger. Yes, a burger. I've been there twice, and in this trip the server struggled, but that's not an indictment of the restaurant.

Alfie's was a great experience. The daily punch was refreshing and went down perhaps too easily. Beer Lao Dark is my favorite and they have it, so that is also endearing. The service was fantastic. Mary was our waitress and I want her to help me make all my life decisions. She knew the menu, gave honest opinions about what to order, was incredibly friendly and so relaxed. She made the delicious meal into an amazing experience. The food was spicy and fresh. More meat heavy than I anticipated, but I like meat so was happy. We got pork neck, roasted chicken, and catfish laap. Flavorful even in the not spicy dishes. I live in Portland with Pok Pok around the neighborhood. I want Alfies to open an outpost in Portland. We got to meet the chef and his enthusiasm is endearing. He was super friendly as well. Go. Now. Sit and talk to Mary. She will tell you how awesome you are while making sure you are not at all hungry.

Michael Davis was the best server I've come across in years! Animated gentlemen who gave us the run down of the traditional thai menu and drinks. Everything that was recommend was outstanding and at a decent price. It was a delicious meal and great service. More bar than restaurant, this "hot blonde" of scenes couldn't be more underwhelmed to see you arrive. The hostess, seemingly defeated by the earth-shattering volume of the music, would only speak above a low hum. This was presumably so your awkward conversation with her, in which she less than politely refuses any requests you pose, lasts twice as long as most awkward convos are supposed to. The waitress will tell you about the one time she went to Thailand (with very little prompting) within the first 48 seconds of suggesting everything on the menu. Finally, she will let you order what you want, how you want it, after a couple of rounds in the octagon. I've not had to take such a resolute stance on my ordering in...well, ever. She brings out the water and tells us how it is flavored with toasted rice. All my date and I taste is dish soap. The chicken was very good, as was the papaya salad (the spicy one). Don't come to this place looking for a nice romantic Thai dinner. They're a little low on class. The only thing it's missing is a mosh pit.

Everyone was making certain we had a wonderful experience. Dining on the patio we were never without someone checking on us. And they have just added a second bar outside!! The food was amazing. Flavors built upon flavors. Beautiful presentation with bunches or basil and mint not just a leaf! My favorites are the roasted chicken, the curries and soups with homemade noodles. We are meeting friends there next week!

The food was really great - authentic flavors, good variety, etc. but they ran out of rice before our food came out and it went downhill from there. When we ordered, the waiter explained that all the dishes were meant to be eaten with rice, so we felt it was strange that they hadn't prepped enough, and some of the food was so spicy that it was difficult without sticky rice to cool your palate. At the end of the meal, the manager asked how everything was and we gave our honest opinion and he immediately got very defensive. He said the restaurant "isn't one of those that preps for the week" but rather they prep for the day and that it's impossible for them to anticipate what will be left. He continued to say, "Honestly, if you want to make sure that you get exactly what you want, you should have come earlier." A 7:30 reservation should be early enough, especially since the restaurant only opens at 5, and there were people with 9:00 reservations that were very frustrated with the limited selection. We were shocked at how the manager talked back to us when he came to us asking us to review our experience. The restaurant should be making more than enough rice per day and taking the loss on that if necessary, and the manager never should have gotten so defensive with the customers. I'd give it a little more time for them to work out the kinks before going again, if at all.

Went with a group of five and was seated immediately when we showed up for our reservation. Great / reasonable beers, cocktails, and drink specials, even on a Saturday night. Split the khao soi and then got the Alfie's Burger because you don't go to one of Alex McCoy's restaurants and try his amazing burger creations. Food was exceptional as expected, cocktails/beers were reasonably priced/delicious, and service was great. Can't wait to go back!

Amazing! I lived in Bangkok for seven months in college and this was some of the best Thai food I've had since. We got the som tom, kor mu yang, khao soi, and gai yang. The khao soi was amazing, as was the kor mu yang and gai yang (all cooked perfectly)! My only complaint is the som tom was a bit salty, but the perfect spicy-ness level. Will definitely be going back!

Arrived with reservations, but table wasn't ready at time of reservation. Went to bar and ordered 2 from their drink menu. Drinks took 10 minutes to make. Table ready after about 10 minutes. Waiter was initially very helpful, but then service went downhill very fast. We ordered a few plates and 2 orders of sticky rice. Waiter came back to tell us the chicken we ordered was out, but did we want to replace with beef. We said sure. We never did get the beef replacement, but fortunateley, we weren't charged for it. Put in another order for same drinks we ordered first time. After 10 minutes, only one drink was correct. Had to wait another 5 for the correct drink to arrive. Orders came out sporadically, and the items that should have arrived first (cucumber salad, sticky rick) came out last when other entrees were about done. Though we did go back and forth on dessert, we placed order for one of each. Only one came out by someone other than waiter. When we mentioned the other, the other server tried to cover, but we knew the other order was never placed. We eventually got both but were charged for only one, confirming order was never placed. Food was great, though. the beef rib curry soup with noodles was fantastic.

We were sad to have to leave Alfie's because they were out of the few vegetarian-friendly menu items. I know their menu changes frequently, but I checked previous menus (with a few veggie items) and assumed there would be SOMEthing the vegetarians in our party could eat. When we asked how to prevent this in the future, we couldn't get a satisfactory answer: --The menu changes a lot, check back another time --But it isn't easy to get a reservation; we booked this 2 weeks in advance --You can always come in to sit at the bar --(As we look at the bar, where every seat has a reserved sign on it) They could have comped the one beer we had ordered (before realizing we couldn't eat anything), which would have made a sad situation more tolerable, but they didn't (and I suggested it).
