Alexandre & Fils Ratings and Reviews
I have been to Alexander's many times so felt booking up for New Years Eve was low risk. Unfortunately it did not work well. We went with the fixed menu for the New Year Eve. We ordered canopes, appetizer, main course. Waited for ever. When it arrived it was the main course - no canopes, no appetizer !! When I pointed this out the food was whisked away. No explanation, no apology. Asked to see the manager whose only comment was "I will check" No apology, never saw him again. Food, when we did get it, was disappointing. Probably my last time here.
Interesting ambiance. Feels like you are in Paris when you get into the restaurant but the food and service are not up to Paris standards. A fun experience but not a place to go looking for a special meal. HOwever from the prices I expected something better. Not a great value but I had fun.
The food is very good but expensive. There are a few specials to choose from on the menu so you can save some money. There is no AC so it's very humid and muggy inside. The restaurant reminded me a lot of a steakhouse i went to in Paris, which is a good thing because it's meant to be a Parisian cafe. I was told the chocolate lava cake is amazing so I will be returning for that!
We went to Alexandre and Fils during the Grand Prix weekend and were surprised by how much they had increased the prices for the weekend, normally they are a very affordable down town restaurant. The meal was disappointing, the hanger steak and frites was exactly that with no other vegetable or dressing on the plate and the sauce was $6 extra.
We had a wonderful time. Everyone was both courteous and charming. People were nicely spaced out in the restaurant so we felt that we were in our own private little corner. The only critique we would have had is that the service was almost too quick! How often do you hear that? But it was just after the lunch crowd so perhaps the waiters were still on speed mode. I will definitely go back to this resto.
This restaurant was great. Service was good - they tolerated my inability to parlez francais. In addition to this I dined there on May 29th as Montreal was hit by a massive rain storm and the restaurant had some flooding. They carried on and continued to serve their clients with style and class.
Really slow service. Food was nice. Loved the environment. Servers were really nice when they offered a free drink/dessert upgrade for the delayed soup serving. Still wish they served food faster though.
Would recommend for drinks or special occasion if you have time to spare.
Food was mediocre and over priced . This is a tourist trap. The wait staff was inexperienced and not professional. One of the items ordered was french onion soup, the price was 3 times higher than a bowl I had the day before at a nearby location and the soup at Alexandre's was inferior to the less expensive version. Try Beaver Hall, professional wait staff, attentive and efficient, the food was very good and the price comparable.
We had to find a table for 9 plus a baby on a Friday night. This was one of few places that had a table, and in fact it was not very crowded once we got there. The decor was somewhere between a French bistro and a North American bar. There was a lively bar area in the front. I thought this did not look very promising. But, the food was actually very very good. It had a sophisticated touch to it. Mine was salmon with puy lentils. Lentils had very nice thyme flavor and thyme sauce around salmon was beautiful. People who had a lobster or grilled scallops were also very happy. The dishes were also beautifully presented. The portions were relatively small, though. The way waitresses were dressed fit a bar more than a bistro.
