Alexandre & Fils
Opened in 1977, Alexandre et Fils is a typical Parisian Brasserie in the heart of downtown Montreal. Located just an 8 minute walk from the Bell Center, our bistro welcomes you 7 days a week, open until 3am. Our specialty dishes are sauerkraut, cassoulet, duck confit, foie gras, steak tartare, French onion soup, lobster and boudin. To end your evening or continue an afternoon of reflection, the Cigar Lounge awaits you upstairs. "
Very authentic french bistro. We enjoyed it very much. Reminded us of bistros in France. The desert a Chocolate Fondant was amazing
The ambience is eclectic as soon as you walk through the door. The food has something for everyone, some good staples and something for the adventurous to try. Service was good and attentive. The foie gras I had was the best I have tasted and the liver was simply incredible. Bravo - a wonderful meal and great value as well.
Meeting with my son and grandson while visiting Montreal
The food was excellent ...best meal ever. Hugo our server was outstanding
Excellent place from all angles.. food, ambiance, service.
Terrible food. Too expensive, tasted awful. Ordered a fish that came cold and rubbery. Never again.
Everything was perfection
Ambiance intéressante, personnel très avenant et sympathique
We love the flavours and creativity of chefs choices...nice ambiance...friendly staff...great location with convenient parking few steps away.
Fabulous as always! Merci!
the decorum, ambiance, food, service are excellent. I know the restaurant since many years and I came back recently tp discover that it did not change in terms of quality of food, service and offering a great environment
Why is Dinner no option? Both Lunch and Dinner are equally outstandig: excellent food with matching service There is a wide variety of menue options, but I suggest to also give the daily specialties a try.
It was just okay - food is overpriced and is just very basic. Most of us ate steak and everyone was spitting out pieces as they were fatty. Mine wasn't even cooked properly. You can do better as there are so many restaurants to choose from in Montreal.
Its a little old and outdated inside - even the menu is tired looking.
Great service and options to eat and drink.
Restaurant was not up to standards set in previous 2 visits. It was crowded and noisy and the owner - manager and waiter made us feel rushed. In my reservation I asked for a nice table as we were celebrating my wife's Birthday and we were placed in a cubby hole beside a family with an Infant.
One steak had to be sent back as it was well overcooked and the Scallop dishes were served on wet risotto and consisted of 3 small scallops. The waiter did however replace my wife's steak with a nicely cooked steak but she only got it when the rest of us had almost finished our meals.
All in all not the experience we anticipated.
I am not sure we will return
Staff was very pleasant and courteous. Owner and maitre d' were charming! Haven't been there in a while but always have good experiences when I return. Portions are not "huge" (for the price), but then again, that's French cuisine! ;)
It was during "Montreal à Table", so lot of animation, really good food. Lamb was incredibly delicious for the cheap price.
My biggest problem: going through cigar lounge on 2nd floor to reach toilets. It stinked, but no smell on restaurant floor.
I recommend it.
Service was good! Food was ok for the price... expected more that that.
What i really disliked is the fact that there is a cigar lounge on the second floor and it smells a lot in the restaurant. Will not come again to this place.
Alexandre & Fils has for years been a great place to have lunch or dinner. Their steak tartar is best to none in Montreal! I recently went during Montreal a La Table (restaurant week) for their tasting menu. Great value though the fois gras was icy or too cold on the salad. Best to leave fois gras to room temperature or slightly warmed! Lamb and dessert were exceptional as was the wine selection. A recommendation I would make to the restaurant is to lower the lights - just a little - as it is difficult to be intimate in a beautiful restaurant such as Alexandre & Fils with office-type lighting. Great place for a meal however and will not disappoint.
Date night. Was a wonderful meal during restaurant week. The lamb was outstanding.
WE did MTL a Table and chose this restaurant because of the location and the menu selection. I am certain we will return to the restaurant and some point in the near future.
They boast a great cigar bar and all they had one cigar box and the first row had bent and broken cigars! Ludicrous!
We were looking for a traditional French restaurant. Alexandre et Fils did not disappoint. You will feel like you are in Paris. Service was excellent. Cassoulet was a bit salty, but I would go back for it again. This will be a go to whenever I am in Montreal.
Amazing food service ambiance and location. Good value. Cant wait to go back!
Nice ambiance, good service, I had the boudin, portion a bit too small
Seated us quickly and the steak frites did not disappoint
Not very clean and with an odor of cigar smoke in the restaurant which was unpleasant. Probably form the cigar lounge upstairs.
Ordered blackened cod and was told they had none left. Ordered a bottle of wine and the waiter forgot. Considering there were about 5 people in the restaurant I wasn’t impressed by the overall experience. Nice ambiance but would pass based on the service.
The gentleman who seated us was very nice and welcoming but unfortunately the service after was terrible. We actually had to call the waitress to get us the menus, then call her again to get some water (after being seated for more than 20 min) and call again when we were ready to order. The restaurant was not even half full but for some reason the waitress decided to ignore our table. Once we got the food was served (which I should say was very good) the waitress did not come again and check if we are missing anything until we called her again and asked her. In short, the food was great but the service was horrible.
Waitress never once came to check on us during the entire meal. Restaurant opens at 11:30, our reservation was for 12pm. They said they were out of orange juice even though it was part of their special mother's day brunch. Yet we were the only table that didn't get orange juice. We asked for water 3 times to different waiters since ours was nowhere to be found and only got it at the end of our meal with the bill. When our waitress finally came back it was to ask us if we're ready for the bill, never asked us how was our meal or offered us desert even though ice cream was included in the special. When I mentioned it to her she didn't believe me and said she had to check. Her excuse: it's was her first time working the brunch shift. She then came back with sorbet saying they were out of ice cream. Every table around us got ice cream, including the ones outside. We were sitting inside but at the window. This is my second time at this restaurant. At least the first time the food was decent. This time it was mediocre at best. My experience 6 years ago was even worse, so much so that back then the owner had to apologize for the lack of service. There won't be a third time.
The quality of the food is not worth the price. It is way too expensive.
