Alexandra's at Turf Valley Ratings and Reviews
Was given a choice of 2 times by Open Table. Selected a time only to be called and told that 1 time was for breakfast and the other time would have been for the Champagne Brunch. Instead of an 11 am sitting for Brunch, I could not be accommodated until 1:00pm. I was not happy and called and spoke with the manager who was able to accommodate me at 11:00 for Brunch. I should not have had to go thru this...the manager should not have had to listen to my tale of woe and displeasure. Someone should just update the website and make it plain.
My wife had her usual crab cakes and they were great as always.
I got the scallops in seafood stew. Including sea bass, mussels, shrimp and it was excellent. I'd would certainly order this again.
Coupled with a good bottle of wine and live music....makes for a good end to the week.
This is the first restaurant that has satisfied all present family members. My oldest son loved the steak. My husband loved the seafood dish. My youngest and very picky daughter enjoyed the chicken. My youngest son said the hamburger was the best he has ever had. This is the first time in 20+ years that we've all enjoyed a dining experience together. Also, we were happy that jackets and ties were not required.
My group of friends chose Alexanra's for our annula holiday brunch. It was easy to make reservations and the food was delicious. I have several food allergies and all the brunch foods were labled for each allergy. That made it so easy for me. They ran out of cheesecake and that was the only dessert I could eat. They quickly found me a substitution and it was amazing. I would highly recommend this brunch and it was very affordable.
The food was quite good. Had been here many years ago and it was awful, so someone has gotten there act together! We actually ate in the bar to be close to the live music, but food is same. Fisherman's stew was wonderful...I was concerned about it being spicy, but definitely was not. Pear salad excellent! Pear dessert heavenly!
We went to Alexandra's because it had good reviews and, for a limited time only, the food was half-price.
The seafood stew was excellent and my wife raved about the pear salad.
The food was so good we went back later that same week and paid full price.
The steak frites and salmon were excellent and my wife said the pear salad was even better.
We plan to go back again.
At 1st it took the waitress some time to come over. While we were waiting, however, someone did come over to provide rosemary bread with a dish of oil and herbs. The mngr also stopped by to see if 'Jeff' had come by to introduce himself (apparently he should have been our waiter). When we said "No" he asked if we would like some water and had that sent. When our waitress came by (no 'Jeff') she was attentive and very informative about the special of the evening. She took our app order (grilled flatbread with butternut squash & porcini mushrooms) and gave us more time to figure out our entrees.
The flatbread was unique and seasonal and worth getting.
Out of room so to be terse, Entrees: Fish Stew - magnificent; Crab Cakes - very tasty.
I went there for dinner with a friend. I was looking for something that wouldn't cause me to pack on the pounds. I had a steak but there was no option whatsoever for any vegetables or a salad. You only get the option for fries or pasta with your meal. In fact, in looking at the entire menu, you are not able to get any vegetables! It is astonishing!
Outside of this, our server was good and the place has nice grounds that you can see from most tables in the restaurant. It is better for brunch and this place is known for weddings (it is at a resort). I have gone there for brunch and it was awesome, with everything imaginable on the buffet.
Alexandra's Sunday brunch was really yummy. The tables aren't too crowded and the traffic patterns around the food flow nicely. The food is really attractive and tastes as good as it looks. Their mac n' cheese is unbelievably good for such a staple item. Shrimp and salmon, succulent roast beef, and omelets made to order all are extremely good. The best is the ice cream Sunday station along with cookies and a variety of cakes to finish off your meal. I'd eat here every Sunday if possible.
The service was great. I ordered a ceasar salad with chicken. The portion was adequate but the salad was tastless. The chicken lacked flavor & seasoning, tasted like it might have been boiled. Lettuce had no flavor. Dressing was sparingly applied. No scrumptous roll or flavorful crackers to accompany the salad. Sorry, my lunch was not memorable.
Quite impressed with both food and service. They have a 'special' each night. We went on a Wednesday. Turned out to be half price wine night. You can only imagine which wines we ordered...took home what we did not finish. Fisherman's stew was as good or better than West Coast or New England. Kobe burger rated in top 5% by my burger expert. Prices excellent for value received.
I have been to Alexandra's a number of times over the past year and have enjoyed it each time...and so have my guests. Only suggestion.....they need to change the menu with some more specials and seasonal changes. Although they advertise this, the menu is always the same...so it is getting a little 'old' and routine for the locals that may come to eat.
We had not been to Alexandra's before, but it was near our son's university so we gave it a try. The brunch was wonderful. The Roast Beef in particular was tender. The shrimp was great too. The desserts with ice cream were delicious. The service was attentive enough. It was a big hit so we'll try it again.
My wife and I believe this is the best brunch in the Howard County area. The atmosphere is great, food is excellent, and staff is friendly. Our only complaint is that we had to constantly ask our waiter to bring us coffee; they did not walk around with the pot like every other restaurant we have ever been at. A little thing, but I do drink a lot of coffee!
I drove over an hour to try out this restaurant with my sister to celebrate her new job and I will be coming back! We both loved this place!!!!!
I loved the view, ambiance, and did I say it overlooks a beautiful golf course???
The food was delicious, the hostesses were pleasant and overall, I enjoyed dining here. I will be back!
The restaurant lounge hosted a Heavy Seas beer tasting that evening, which was a bonus! The food was very good overall. My wife's scallops were large and cooked to perfection. Both our salads were first rate. I ordered my salmon "very rare" but it came out medium-well. That was my only complaint about the food. The wine list was not pages and pages, but extensive enough for us, and our bottle of Black Ankle wine was outstanding. A few craft beers on the menu should make any beer snob (like me) happy. Service was prompt and friendly, although we had to chase down the server to get our check. The atmosphere was relaxed. It made for a great choice for our anniversary dinner, and the complimentary cannoli was a nice touch to end the evening.
This is a restaurant I want to like. The room is beautiful, comfortable, with a lovely view, and tables are nicely spaced. Service was very attentive without being overbearing. That being said, the food was just so-so. The Ceasar salad does not benefit from New Orlean's flavors. The fish was lovely to look at, but dry. The veal not as tender as it should have been. Those in our party of 7, all enjoyed their steaks; so perhaps that is the way to go here. The desserts were fabulous; some of the best and most creative I've eaten anywhere. If we had only ordered dessert this review would be 5 stars.
A bit disappointed this time. Have been to the Sunday Brunch many times, but this time wasn't up to their usual standard. First, the only egg dish was the omelet station and there was a continuous line of at least ten people. Totally inadequate. And there were no other egg dishes - not even scrambled eggs on the buffet and the French toast was COLD, not cool, but cold. As this and the omelets were the only "breakfast" foods offered, it was extremely disappointing. Also, the pasta dish was a very plain tomato pasta, this dish usually has a bit more class, and the fish was catfish. All in all, not a very good offering for the price.
Sunday brunch for our extended family included custom omelettes, smoked salmon, prime rib, pulled pork, catfish, peel and eat shrimp, and many other delicacies from an expansive buffet. Service was attentive and efficient. Nice airy ambience made for a lighthearted gathering after a busy weekend attending wedding rehearsals and the wedding and reception. Our first visit to Maryland after a long absence, and our first time at Turf Valley.
It had been a while since I had visited Alexandra's and I'm glad I came back. The menu is fresh, the food is great, and the wine list is adequate. If it's been a while since you've been to Alexandra's, you should come back. If you've never been, give it a try!
We were disappointed that the full menu was not available to us upon arrival. We were offered a limited menu and when we inquired about the full menu our server told us that they were expecting a large group and so only have the limited menu. She stated, there is nothing I can do about that. Although, the restaurant only had about 3 other tables, at most, while we were there.
While our server was pleasant, she didn't listen well and kept offering other options after we already ordered. She even offered something that wasn't on the limited menu, then apologized, realizing what she had done.
The food was good but the service was questionable.
The food was tasty, with reasonable portions. Good wine list. The service was good but not overly attentive.
We could see the steel band outside but did not hear them.
On the downside, the music from somewhere inside was a bit intrusive.
I like to have the choice of sides but the pairings were set in stone. I couldn't even order a vegetable as a separate dish!
As is the case in many places today, the descriptions on the menu should do a better job of telling you whether items listed are separate or together in a combo dish, are a side or garnish. We had to ask the waiter to explain almost everything except the potatoes.
We had a very pleasant evening for our first experience with this summer time event. It was a perfect evening to be outside, the live music was good and not so loud as to be intrusive. A pleasant background. The food was excellent. We especially like the seafood cocktail appetizer, the short ribs and the shrimp and grits. Happy hour prices on drinks all night was a bonus. Our server could have been in less of a hurry to get us through our meal. We told him several times we were not ready to order but he kept coming back repeatedly. He also brought boxes for take home food before we were finished eating dinner. He was very eager to get the check settled also. He was the only annoyance in an otherwise delightful evening.
Menu offered an interesting variety! Both our meals, the scallops and duck, were delectable and beautifully presented. Service was excellent in terms of timeliness of our meal and our interaction with the waiter. We chose to eat early (5 PM) to avoid the noise of diners at a later hour. The huge room and modern decor do not lend themselves to dampening sound. This was our anniversary and I was impressed that the staff had apparently read my online request to sit away crowds. The meal was most definitely memorable and the view, lovely - even on a rainy day! I would definitely dine here again during off hours....or choose to eat outside.
Overall I must say I was a little disappointed. They had recently spent a lot of money to redecorate the place and I really didn't see that much that had changed. Maybe I just was not in the remodeled parts. The server knew the food and was helpful but it seemed like the service was a bit slow (could have been the kitchen as they had two weddings going on in other parts of the facility). The food was excellent (I had the gumbo dish which I really liked and wife had a salad) and the pricing on the food was very reasonable. I did think the wine list while good was over priced. Had a Frei Pinot Noir for $45 which i thought should have been more in the high 30's (say 37/38). Overall Okay experience -Not in a hurry to return.
My wife and I celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary here because we wanted to try something new. This was the best choice ever! The service was top notch, the food was amazing, and the ambiance was great. There is a hotel connected to the restaurant which we will be staying at the next time we celebrate here.
We went here on a Sunday morning around 11:30a with a group of four and were seated immediately. Brunch options are pretty standard but all delicious, plentiful, and fresh. Notables included the prime rib, a delicious plump sausage, and my son's favorite, the bread pudding. The all-you-can-drink champagne was actually very tasty. Service was a bit slow but there were several large groups requiring a lot of attention. Despite that, we were never really left wanting nor felt like we were being rushed from the table. Ambiance was relaxed and casual with dress ranging from Sunday Best to jeans and a t-shirt. A wonderful experience and one we will repeat for a special occasion or if guests come in to town.
