This was my husband and my first and LAST visit to Alexandra's
at Turf Valley Resort. Based on the great reviews, we thought we'd try a local restaurant instead of driving into DC as we usually do for great food. We should have taken the drive to DC!! First impressions are EVERYTHING! We stood and waited to be greeted and seated by the hostess who was not personable and engaging at all. Once seated, we waited AGAIN to be greeted by our server and when she finally greeted us, her first words were "do you want something to drink"? REALLY? This is how you greet someone who has NEVER been to your restaurant? I had to ASK her NAME!! (Jennifer). My husband and I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the country. The service was terrible (very dismissive as if we were bothering her to ask for anything) and the food/buffet was subpar at best and not extensive at all with hard breakfast potatoes, no scrambled egg dishes other than omelettes, no pancakes or waffle station, no carved turkey station, bread, bagels rolls, etc,. I also had to ask for someone to bring
more sliced fruit out to display. Lastly once we ate and left, I had to call back to the restaurant and ask Rebecca to document my reservation so that I received my Opentable points. Her response, "I didn' finish processing your reservation in the system". This is NOT a top rate buffet. We expected more from Turf Valley as a resort and conference center. Disappointing and not worth $30 per person. Will NEVER teturn!!
Dinner was fabulous! Our waiter Jeffrey was outstanding and very attentive. We had dinner with friends before going to the BSO concert we will absolutely do this again!
Slow night but food took forever...the burgers were overcooked and the kid's pizza undercooked...drinks went unfilled for long periods of time. We have been here before for the brunch buffet, which was great. This was our first time for a meal off the menu...we will stick with the brunches only from now on.
We've enjoyed dinner at Alexandra's many times and never been disappointed, so we decided to try the Sunday Brunch buffet. The wide variety of food offered was very good and constantly refreshed. It was a crowded day, but our server was attentive and kept our drinks coming. My only complaint was that the hostess could not find my Open Table reservation so we had to wait while they found us a table.
Every time we visit Alexandra’s we are greeted by unfriendly hostesses with attitudes that leave us feeling unwelcome and as if we are an annoyance. I don’t recall one pleasant experience with the hostesses. I will say, however, that the table servers and staff behind the food stations during brunch tend to give you a smile and are pleasant. We’re Turf Valley members and at this point, the only reason we visit Alexandra’s is to reach a quarterly spend requirement. Otherwise, we gladly take our business elsewhere where we enjoy a great first impression and great food and service.
The dining experience overall very good... Food was prepared as indicated and delish...Our server, Mike, had a wonderful personality and complimented by his knowledge of wine and menu...Mike made the evening...Thank you.
Alexandra’s is a great choice for a special occasion. The menu has decent selections that will satisfy most palates. Their happy hours menu has good value and decent selections also. Would definitely return to this venue.
Need to improve special occasions for guest who wish to celebrate
Hands down the best brunch!
Went for Sunday Bruch and was not disappointment. Everything was amazing!!! The service was great from the hostess to the waitress. The mimosas were definitely some of the best I have ever tasted which is uncommon for bottomless. The food was very good and they had such a vast selection. We had a nice view of the lake. Highly recommend if you are looking for an all you can eat brunch.
Prompt and courteous service. Creative and delicious food
Firstly the host had an awful attitude and didn’t make eye contact. This irritates me immediately.
I understand that the restaurant is part of a golf club but it looks like it needs a major makeover as it’s stuck in the 90’s. Our waiter just seemed like he did. It want to be there and kept rushing us. The food was very average also.
Enjoyed lunch with a friend. Service was good, and my seafood salad delicious.
Food was not the best. The risotto was not not through my cooked. The redfish was dry. The grits with the shrimp and grits was not thoroughly my cooked. Did not enjoy the meal. The waiter was not attentive or friendly. He was not rude but not great either.
The hostess was great. She was energetic. Positive and engaging.
Food not good at all.
I thought the service was a bit slow, and the waiter's demeanor was mix of genuine interest, and I'd rather not be bothered. The Cesar salad lettuce was more like a regular salad than what I am accustomed to. My main dish, blackened chicken, was very good. My girlfriend's pot pie lacked flavor and was way too soupy. The bread pudding was more like a cake, and could have been sweeter. My girlfriend enjoyed the mint chocolate brownie. As we stood to leave, I told her 'd like to come back and try other things. She seemed less enthusiastic. As far as a romantic restaurant, I'd say very good. Nice ambiance.
We had a lovely time as usual! It was a Mardi Gras themed brunch buffet; my first time at this event. Everything was delicious!!
Randomly went there. Sat at bar tables. Food was good
I had the crabcakes and my husband had rockfish (which we asked to have blackened though not done the way we are used to having it done). The crabcakes were good but a little bland (for being in Maryland). The service was excellent because it wasn't that crowded. Live music in the bar above was nice but a little loud for having relaxing dinner converation. It's a nice, clean place with exceptional staff but food is just so-so.
We have come here for years and it just wasn’t as good this time. The server did her best, but they were clearly understaffed. The shrimp were not as good—over cooked possibly. And they served lox and all the trimmings with no bagels. Just tasteless bagel chips. We asked for bagels but they arrived way too late. The omelets were good. So as the bread pudding. We had finished desert by the time we got the bag ls. We will try for somewhere else next time we want brunch
Food could’ve had more flavor. Service was super slow and kept forgetting items.
Excellent meal and service. Looking forward to dining outside when it warms up.
The Sunday Brunch at Alexandra's was one of the finest I've enjoyed...a wide variety of breakfast and luncheon offerings, unlimited mimosas & Bloody Marys, an excellent selection of desserts and great service with pleasant live music and a beautiful golf course view. It was well worth the price of admission.
Excellent selections and great price. Casey was a fantastic server. Extremely proactive and friendly.
The meal was OK, certainly nothing very good. I would not go out of my way to go again. Our server was not very good. Not particularly helpful and not at all friendly, but mostly inattentive. Our bill for 4 was $240 with tip. This place should be a lot better. Maybe better management and a new chef.
We were rushed out on a Friday night at 10 pm!!!
Not sure if that’s normal:)
We were seated with reservations booked at 9 pm .
For this resort restaurant food and drinks were unimpressive.
Server seemed to be distracted with clean up and closing down from 930 pm
He actually offered to pack our desert to go home at 945 pm!
Pleasantly surprised for a restaurant in a hotel. EXECELLENT food and service. We would definitely go back.
Everything very good service and food
Just like to see them switch from dry bread to rolls
The service was slow. The food came out cold and incomplete. One person's burger was charred on one side, another person's steak sandwich was practically mooing-sliced right off the cow. One member asked for a plain burger, no bun, cheese... just the meat, and that was screwed up. We don't fault the server, it seemed like she was the only one waiting tables. Felt more like a management and kitchen issue. We like going to Alexandra's and hope we have a better experience next time.
It is a pretty restaurant but the food wasn’t all that. We expected better food for the price.
Food was fine but priced a bit higher than similar restaurants.
First time for breakfast. Not fancy, just good food. We opted to go before the Sunday brunch buffet so it was not crowded and made for a relaxing way to start the day. We will be back.
A small group of us went to Alexandra's for New Year's Eve dinner. It was very nice. Lovely atmosphere (golf course view in the daylight) and, despite a limited menu, not outrageously expensive for a special evening like this. (Thank you, Alexandra's, for giving us a range of good choices!) We were all pleased with our food, with special honors going to the crab&corn chowder as well as their "half and half" soup option. It was a portion of Maryland crab soup in the center of a bowl of the chowder. Sounds odd, but the ones who ordered it just LOVED it. Service was also excellent. Maybe best of all, we could actually hold a conversation because the noise level was comfortable. We will definitely go there again.
So we had lunch and dinner here the other day. Lunch was just okay, I had a surf salad that sounded better than it actually was. Wife had the plt which she loved.
Fast forward to dinner. We had the soups both were fantastic. I got the filet with Chesapeake Mac which was good, steak was cooked properly but had a huge amount of garlic butter on top. I’d say it was a little much. Wife had the Pennsylvania Dutch pot pie. It was so runny she only had a bite or two then couldn’t eat the rest. She said the chicken had an odd seasoning that just didn’t taste right. Disappointing for the romantic getaway we had planned staying the hotel. Drinks were both pretty good.
This is the third time we dined at Alexandra's -- unfortunately, it was also the least pleasurable dining experience. We decided to try two of the long term restaurant favorites (shrimp and grits, and the pot pie). They were both only mildly edible -- because we were withfriends, we decided not to complain.
The one thing that is always pleasurable is that you can sit for as long as you want at your table -- no one is rushing you to order so they can serve more customers.
The food and service were excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great for our anniversary dinner. Every staff member greeted us with a "Happy Anniversary" and made us feel special. The only odd thing was that it took a long time to get our drinks. Half way through dinner my husband ordered another beer, our waiter said that they had Stella at the bar upstairs but not downstairs. My husband chose something else and that took a really long time to deliver. He was finally told that they needed to tap a second keg and did he want to wait. Our meal was complete so he declined. Our waiter made up for it and brought us complimentary champagne for our anniversary. Even thought the drinks were slow to arrive - it was a special evening.
Let me first say that this restaurant has GREAT food. This was our second visit. The Angus Sliders are sinfully delicious. My NY Strip was perfect. My wife's entree was exquisite. That is what went well.
Now, here is the rest of the story. We arrived at 4:15 pm for an early Sunday dinner but was told that the dinner menu was not available until 5 pm. There was only one table with customers at that time. Since we really wanted the dinner menu, we agreed to return at 5 pm. Upon our return, we were seated right away as there was NO ONE else dining. After taking our drink order, there was an inordinate wait time until someone returned to take our food order. There were no featured menu items noted, as in our previous visit. We were asked for our entrees without the offer of an appetizer, which we really wanted (the sliders). We were able to order the appetizer after the entree order. About 5 minutes later, bread and olive oil was brought to the table. The bread was cold. After enjoying our appetizers, the entrees were served. As I said earlier, my steak was perfect except for the blob of ICE COLD garlic butter which sat prominently on top of it. Needless to say, the quality of the service was lacking.
This experience made us wonder whether there was something occurring with this establishment that was not known to us. Throughout our entire stay, NO ONE else showed up. We were the only diners.
Not sure if it makes sense to try dining here again. Maybe if they have carry-out.
We took the family for Sunday brunch, which I had heard was excellent. However, for the most part we were disappointed. The service was lousy (we were never offered refills on drinks and I went over several times to refill coffee since the waitress was never around), the french toast was cold and hard, bacon was cold, and the bread pudding was overcooked, burned and dry. Not worth the price!
Food was awesome...especially the steamed spiced shrimp - cooked perfectly. Variety offered is great and service was wonderful as well. Love this place!
Delicious food. Very nice scenery-golf course and fountain.
