Alexanders steakhouse in Cupertino told me they did not have my reservation because they stopped working with open table 6 months ago, so do not book on open table if you want a reservation at this restaurant.
I tried to cancel this reservation many times and had to call the restaurant only to find out that they no longer were
Great service and food presentation! I went there with my friend to celebrate our birthday. The waiter was fantastic. The food was delicious and the dessert is to die for! Fantastic restaurant. Highly recommend this for a nice dinner with someone or corporate event for the VIP's.
I t was our first time in the new location and the dining room does not feel as nice as the last one. We were seated at a table right next to a waiter's station where we had full view of their computer screen and other equipment...not what you expect from a Michelin star restaurant.
One of our guests arrived early and waited for 10 minutes in the bar before anyone asked her if she would like to order a drink.
Our server was wonderful. Steaks/prime rib and Hamachi shots are still fantastic.
Everything was great, except the chef mixed up the way we wanted our steak. I didn't notice until I got to the middle of my steak (I asked for Medium and it was medium rare in the middle). But by then, I was already full. I just advised our waitress to make sure the chef is reading the order correctly. But my BFs steak was super well done when he asked for medium rare, not sure how he was able to eat it. But since the chef mixed it up his should have been medium not medium well/well done!
Its a steak restaurant so they should at least know how to cook the meat, even if the meat was a thicker cut!
The manager said he put a note to make sure the how the food is order is cooked the right waya, on my reservation for next, but not sure if thats true.
But the waitress and manager were both really nice and the side dishes we ordered were amazing. We still made the best of it.
The food was fantastic and the service was great until we were suddenly being ignored for long stretches of time.
Overpriced. Poorly executed. First - Both our drinks at the bar were served incorrectly. The original Alexander's had much better ambiance with the fireplace and the sofas. This was very techno feeling. Great for s business lunch on someone else's expense account. For a date, yuck ! Steaks were supposed to be black and blue. No char on the outside. Mashed potatoes mediocre. Dessert mediocre. No reason to go back !
Everything was as expected. Excellent experience.
Good for birthday!
We arrived about 1/2 hour before our reservation, we sat at the bar for 10-15 minutes before the area was cleaned or we were asked if we wanted anything. My steak (split bone in ribeye) was under cooked and had little to no flavor, my wife's (F-1 Short rib) meal was good . The sides, appetizers and sides were very good, however the desert menu was small and and was underwhelming. We decided to not have dessert, although the free sour apple cotton candy was interesting. We will not be going back, for $350.00 we would rather go to Morton's in downtown San Jose.
I've been a patron since their original location opened. While there are other places more affordable and their business price-fixe menus are less impressive, a la carte dining (especially for a special occasion or for corporate dining) is always memorable.
I thought I had seen it all at Alexander's but the service here continues to impress. This truly is the best place to celebrate any special occasion and I have a feeling we'll be going here for a long time.
Nathan, our server, was the best. Food was great. Overall experience was lovely and will definitely return.
This was our first time at the new location. The atmosphere in the dining area much more reflects that of The Sea now than it used to. Everything got a modern revamp and while it is great, it's just slightly less cozy than before. Everything was absolutely wonderful as always, from the food to the service. We only get to go here on special occasions, but it is worth it every time for a special treat!
The old Alexander’s location at Vallco was something special, so we thought we’d check out the new digs! Unfortunately, this new location is cookie-cutter, and boring. The parking situation is atrocious too.
The new location is fine for a business meal, but is certainly not romantic. You sit cafeteria-style, and could just as easily eat off of your neighbor’s plate as your own (Hope you enjoy their conversations!)
While the sides are pretty good, and the drinks are great, their steaks are disappointing. Surprising, since it’s a steakhouse. Further surprising because they charge a premium price for sub-par meat. If you want a quality steak, try Mortons in San Jose, or Viva! in Los Gatos. Yum!
My 20oz prime rib was, honestly, the worst I’ve ever had. It’s supposed to have some marbling. Instead, this piece had a ribbon of something weaved throughout that wasn’t chewable. The edges are supposed to be a little dry, but this was pink all the way to the edge with some peppercorns pressed in to create an edge. The meat is supposed to melt in your mouth, this was just chewy. To make matters worse, the horseradish had no zing, and was not radish-textured. It was more like a bland mayonnaise. I could only cut through and consume about 1/2 of my piece, which left me hungry, and I couldn’t find a small nibble worth sharing either.
The complimentary breads are divine. The Hamachi shooters were utterly fantastic. The drinks (cordials, wine AND beer) were all properly made, served and tasted great. The asparagus with crab and macaroni and cheese were some of the best vegetarian fare around. If you don’t plan to order steak, then the food isn’t too bad. Perhaps Alexander should drop “steakhouse” from the name?
If you want an elegant eating experience that can’t be beat, try Hult’s in Los Gatos. If you just need to run up your expense account, and don’t mind taking the bus to get there, you might not dislike Alexander’s.
The steaks were not very good. Very tasteless and the side orders didn't even look attractive when brought to the table.
Definitely an overpriced place! with mediocre food.
I haven't been at alexander's in several years and this is the new location. The rooms are very dark and hard to even see the food
Overall, it is one of the top three places I'd like to go for a very good meal in The heart of Silicon Valley.
Good news first: the service is excellent, top notch.
The food is OK, but definitely not for the money.
What my wife and I found absolutely terrible was the ambiance.
The interior is brand new - and very drab. Depressing gray everywhere, your eyes get tired pretty quickly. The interior designer gets 2 out of 10 on my scale.
Worst of all... the sweatshirts, backpacks, sneakers, even shorts! No, I am not against any of those and use them myself with pleasure - but, when you come to celebrate a special occasion and your bill is $300 for two... - I demand a finer experience. Anyone who has dined at Le Pappillon will agree with me. We asked to box our food and left. Yep, we just left. Won't recommend to friends and won't come there ever again. Will try to forget this outing. Alexander's management - how about a dress code for your $$$$ establishment?
This was my second time eating at Alexanders. It is definitely upscale, and the price reflects it. For 2 of us, the bill was $300 before tip. 2 apps, 2 steaks, 2 drinks each, and 1 desert shared. Everything was extremely tasty. The steaks we tender and flavorful. We added 3 dipping sauces. So good!
Good food good service but overpriced
Service was a little slow this evening. We finished our dinner and we had to ask somewhere to clear our plates because they sat there for like 10 mins. Waiter seemed busy with other tables. Food was great! I expect more from Alexander's when it comes to service.
Great place for a date: quiet, excellent service, tasty food, price range is reasonable
Food and service were absolutely the best. Brian and his team met our needs exactly, will gladly go again.
Alec, manager was extremely helpful and courteous. Food was outstanding. Unfortunately, the location was not warm in colors and steakhouse expectation. The noise level was cafeteria loud.
Clientele should have been directed to follow at least a minimal dress code for such a pricey establishment. Too bad the staff were better dressed that most of the diners. Were I an employee, I would have been unhappy about that scenario.
Great service! Delicious food! Friendly customer service!
Great place Always a good time and great experience
Everything about this evening meal was wonderful, except the bill. I realize it's a high-end restaurant, but almost $300 for two people ordering normally is ridiculous—even for Silicon Valley when you expense it at the taxpayers' expense. The food and service were excellent, but the prices should be half of what they were.
We were seated in a smallet more private dining room with fewer tables which was great because it was much quieter than the main dining room. Unfortunately, one table with children were screaming and running around the room and wish that they were asked be be considerate of other diners.
Smelly space, inexperienced staff, mediocre food.
We have been going to Alexander's since the first week it opened in Cupertino. But last Saturday was our first time at the new location. Overall we were very impressed. My wife had the short ribs and they were great! My steak was excellent and we brought home a lot of food. Service was outstanding.
My main comment was where we were seated: it was against the wine storage on an aisle on the way to another room. Wait and bus staff were running by our table carrying meals and empty plates... and it was a little frantic. Our waiter kept having to dodge people as they ran by. So the ambiance really did not match the meal in my opinion. If we go again, we will probably ask to be seated in a quieter location.
There were also several large groups near us and toward the end of our meal the noise level was becoming a bit too high for us.
But over all, a great experience.
The meats are really excellent. They don't come cheap but it is one dining experience to remember.
Management made a serious error in moving from the old Cupertino location to this God awful place. Basically, a strip mall. Not to mention they didn't do themselves any favors by the way they designed the interior of the restaurant. It's akin to an upscale cafeteria at SFO. Service and food were still as wonderful as ever, but quite frankly, I will never return. I will be making the drive up to the SF location instead.
One steak was undercooked, the other was overcooked. Needed to ask for more water. Asked for more bread but none never came, luckily I ordered the porterhouse steak so didn't really need the bread.
Best part of the dinner were the sides and dessert.
Dinner started out well but 1/2 through our meal there was a family that was seated right next to us. A dad/mom and their young son (age 6-8 yrs).
Their son was an absolute terror and jumped up and down on the shared bench seat. He also was very loud with his iPad and generally causing ruckus while his parents tried to control him. This ruined our meal instantly. We could barely have our own conversation without being distracted by him.
My feedback would be if parties have young children, put them all in their own area and leave the adults only in a section away from them. When I'm spending > $4-500/meal I don't want loud rowdy kids. Otherwise I'll go to a different restaurant where there are less children.
Great restaurant and the steaks live up to their reputation at Alexanders. The most expensive meal I've ever had, even living in Silicon Valley for 20+ years. Probably best for once -in-while special occasions and business meals.
Cheap decor, too loud, banquet style room
(Decor) food was mediocre at best. Server forgot our crab legs and finally brought them out but it was drenched in sauce like you get on Americanized sushi rolls
We were disappointed that the message I left in Open Table never made it to the restaurant. We wanted to somewhat be surprised with what dessert they would bring out for our celebrations but it never happened which killed our birthday and anniversary lunch vibe.
I put a note that my boyfriend and I were celebrating both a birthday and our anniversary and it was not acknowledged at all throughout our dining experience. Other yelpers and friends have said there are complimentary items for celebrations yet we received none. Yes, we could have asked the waiter if they did anything special when he asked about desserts but we gave up and were disappointed in the Open Table app.
Also, waiter said he would pack our watermelon cotton candy to go, yet it never made it in the take out bag-- super bummed about that!
Friends who have been here before said they received palette cleansers and sauces for their steaks which we didn't get either. Prime rib was also no longer available since we dined before closing. I wonder if this is because we went during the lunch shift...
The staff and our waiter were attentive and our waiter was very informative about the menu since it was our first time. I enjoyed the complimentary lobster bisque we received before the meal started.
We enjoyed our food and drinks and the booth we sat in as well. Bathrooms are well kept and they're spacious one stalls. Ambience was cool, you could dress up, be business casual or just casual-- at least for lunch time when we went.
Despite the cons, we would come here again and make reservations by phone instead! The quality and taste of the food definitely outweigh the disappointments we experienced in our first time here.
I've been to this restaurant many many times. Food is always on point. Service is always great and dessert amazing. This last visit was very disappointing. We went to the new restaurant in Cupertino. This place is too big. It looses the sense of fine dining. My server took almost 10 minutes to acknowledge we were there. And of course, when you are waiting to be welcomed, it seems way longer than it is. Corkage fee now is 50 bucks, a real insult. For the amount of money you spend here, it lacks lots of anticipation from the servers part. I asked my wine to be decanted, sommelier never came to our table. Unfortunately I left with a sour feeling but always willing to come back to see if "the Old Alexander" experience will survive on this new place.
We were not greeted as we entered the restaurant. We waited for 5 minutes before anyone approached us to ask for our reservation. Hostesses were not friendly.
Reservation was at 8:00, we did not get our table until 8:20
When our steaks came out, they were just Luke warm/cold. Our waiter took them back to reheat.
The waiter was very polite, friendly and great at his job.
Considering it's a high end restaurant, customer service needs more work.
The website indicated valet service. There was no valet service. We would have used Uber as we are unable to walk long distances.
Dissatisfied.......no way should this restaurant ever achieve a Michelin rating.
It is a steakhouse and our steaks were served cold.....and flavorless.
