We went to dinner for my fiancé's birthday. I had never been before but heard good reviews. Without a doubt some of the best food I've had since moving to the NRV area over a year ago. Food was amazing, and cocktails were fantastic. I would definitely recommend Alexander's to anyone!
Excellent food, great staff very nice atmosphere. We lingered a bit with coffee and port, never any feeling of being rushed...
This is the second time we’ve been to Alexander’s and it was again fantastic. Everyone greets you like you’re friends, the atmosphere is unlike anything else in Roanoke. We highly suggest the deconstructed California roll. I never thought I would like it.... I love it! The filet was perfect and my husband loved the mixed grill.
Great place! Can’t wait to return.
What a wonderful experience - from the service to the food, we were impressed. Our steak was melt-in-our-mouths tasty, the best we have had in a long time! Thanks, too, for the recommendation on dessert for the "adult" sundae - a great way to end our meal!
One of the best steaks I've had in year's at a restaurant...usually only eat them at home because I'm particular, the best chicken, ever, pecan crusted. Sat at our table for at least 2 hours with an attentive waiter. It was great!
We had another great meal at Alexander's. This restaurant is our favorite in Roanoke. They have an excellent mixologist. Their service is top notch, and everyone is so friendly. You will spot many regular customers here and can always count on seasonal specials. Tonight we had a shrimp/ cheese souffle appetizer and crab asparagus bisque that were absolutely wonderful. You can't go wrong with any of their appetizers, entrees or desserts.
Alexander’s never disappoints. Always fabulous food and service.
Alexander's is our favorite Roanoke restaurant. They've been doing "farm to table" before it was trendy. It is upscale without being stuffy, and the service is always wonderful. We were there to celebrate our 36th anniversary and felt well taken-care-of. The food was scrumptious as usual. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
Great food, service and ambiance but very pricey for what you get.
First visit and definitely not the last. Staff was very attentive and accommodating. Steak cook to perfection and the Lamb Ragu left me speechless (which doesn't happen often).
Needs a drink menu. They do have a full bar but have problems making custom drinks. BBQ shrimp are very tasty. Potato bisque did not contain shell fish even though being named a bisque. Shrimp Etouffee over grits is toned down for VA tastes. Salad is very good and fresh. Waitstaff are very attentive. Nice gem in Roanoke.
We had a wonderful 1st time. We were treated very well by the staff, the ambiance is contemporary and has a good, warm feel to it, and the food was delicious!
My scallops were delicious and very fresh. The filet of beef was cooked to perfection.
Will definitely return when we are in the area.
Food and service were both truly outstanding. There were so many delicious-sounding choices on the menu, our biggest problem was deciding WHAT to order! We'd definitely go back there again...
Our food was very good. Both dishes were cooked to order and arrived in a timely manner. Very quiet atmosphere and conversation was easy. The staff was attentive and informative. Great place for a quite evening meal.
My father and I went this past November for my birthday, and this past February for his birthday and we think we're going to make it a birthday tradition now! The service is EXCELLENT! Bjorn is our handsome waiter and is usually there, and he took my dad's coat and hat as soon as we got there. He pulled my chair out when we were seated. He has an unforgettable, quirky personality and is very personable, knowlegable about the food and drinks, attentive, and just a pleasure all around! The food is outstanding! The crab cake appetizer was litterally the BEST crabcake I've EVER had! It's a bit pricey, but the food and service are defiitley worth it. The portions are perfect, and the drinks are strong! I will absolutley be back. I don't know if I can wait until my birthday in November, though :)
Once again Alexanders comes through with flying colors. We choose this restaurant for special occasions such as our anniversary and other events and it never fails to impress. The food, service (Bjorn was great) and the general atmosphere makes Alexanders the best in Roanoke, no doubt.
We will return over and over again.
Amazing service and attention to detail. Wonderful, creative entrees. Pleasant atmosphere. A true treat!
My husband and I went here for the 1st time on date night. The service was great. They didn't have much to choose from on the menu that was my taste. Only 2 appetizers and both were shrimp dishes and I do not care for shrimp. I ordered steak and although it tasted great I left still feeling hungry. The atmosphere was nice and quiet but seemed to be only for older adults, 50++. My husband and I are in our thirties and were the youngest customers in there. It seems to be a restaurant for seniors and business. Which is fine... just not for me. It was an OK dining experience but nothing great.
Excellent service and ambience. Unhurried and great choices of entrees.
Celebrating our anniversary...always our first choice. Not for the faint of wallet.
We were super impressed by this amazing place! Definitely a must do for special occasions.
My wife and I went here for an early Valentine’s date. Food and service were outstanding! Will definitely return.
One of the best fine dining experiences I've ever had. I would recommend Alexander's without hesitation, and I certainly intend to return. Great food and superb service all around!
Excellent food, wine and service as always. Tuesday nights are a favorite as it's often quieter and a really nice way to start the week.
Dinner at Alexander's is always a treat! Our most recent visit to Alexander's was during Roanoke Restaurant Week. The items on the "special menu" were delicious - from the Wild Mushroom Bread Pudding (fabulous) to the Deconstructed Beef Wellington to the Chocolate Tart and Winter Shortcake. The service - as always - was perfect - friendly, helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable.
Wonderful , only issue being all members at table were required to either do the restaurant week menu or regular menu.
One of the best meals I have ever had in Roanoke! And an incredible experience to boot. We went here on a whim for Restaurant week, now I cannot wait until we go back!
Wonderful meal! Desserts were amazing. Must have been some confusion on which server had our table but once they figured it out, the service was fine.
Words do insufficient justice to the brilliance that is Alexander’s. Dinner was divine.
Went for restaurant week, loved the meal and experience!
Go to place for consistent service, good food and ambiance.
This restaurant is a real gem. We had not been there for a while and need to go back more often. Great!
We went here to have a nice new year's eve dinner celebration. It was the perfect spot, loved the staff and ambience of the restaurant. I recommend the rack of lamb and mushroom soup is it is on the menu.
This was my first time at Alexandra in over 10 years. We decided to try it for our 32nd anniversary with our two adult children. The service was not great. My son asked for a wine/drink menu and was told they didn’t have one. We were not told about the bottle of wines nor any speciality drinks. So we ordered individual drinks. I ordered my favorite lemon drop martini. I was so disappointed. It didn’t taste like it had any lemon in my martini and had to ask for lemon slices. That helped a little. We didn’t get a menu until 15 minutes after we got our drinks only to find out that they did have a speciality drink on the menu. We also saw the same server opening a bottle of wine at the next table. We were not even offered the option.
Finally a menu ! We didn’t received our basket of bread for another 10 minutes. Our waitress had her hands full with other customers but not us. You would have thought that the place was packed because of the poor service but it was only half filled ifbthat much.
Finally we ordered and I asked about several dishes. I decided to go with a shrimp dish because she told me the shrimp was saute’. It didn’t seemed sauté but steamed. The dish was ok but not memorable. My sons and husband’s meals were tasty. My husband said his pork chops were great and my sons ate all of their steak entre’.
We didn’t order any dessert because the service was so slow and we were ready to go. Not one of our best experience on our 32nd anniversary.
As usual dinner at Alexanders was lovely. My husband and I both had the crab bisque and the corvina special enter. Both were delicious. The restaurant was busy but the service is always very attentive , personal and friendly.
A wonderful evening. Thank you to all the staff for making a birthday celebration so special.
Everything except parking is fantastic. We happened to pick the last evening of a crazy holiday event and parking was a nightmare. The food, service, and overall experience at Alexander's was excellent however.
