Alexander's - Roanoke Ratings and Reviews
This was my first time at Alexandra in over 10 years. We decided to try it for our 32nd anniversary with our two adult children. The service was not great. My son asked for a wine/drink menu and was told they didn’t have one. We were not told about the bottle of wines nor any speciality drinks. So we ordered individual drinks. I ordered my favorite lemon drop martini. I was so disappointed. It didn’t taste like it had any lemon in my martini and had to ask for lemon slices. That helped a little. We didn’t get a menu until 15 minutes after we got our drinks only to find out that they did have a speciality drink on the menu. We also saw the same server opening a bottle of wine at the next table. We were not even offered the option.
Finally a menu ! We didn’t received our basket of bread for another 10 minutes. Our waitress had her hands full with other customers but not us. You would have thought that the place was packed because of the poor service but it was only half filled ifbthat much.
Finally we ordered and I asked about several dishes. I decided to go with a shrimp dish because she told me the shrimp was saute’. It didn’t seemed sauté but steamed. The dish was ok but not memorable. My sons and husband’s meals were tasty. My husband said his pork chops were great and my sons ate all of their steak entre’.
We didn’t order any dessert because the service was so slow and we were ready to go. Not one of our best experience on our 32nd anniversary.
We heard from friends Alexander’s was a restaurant we would enjoy. We were not disappointed!
We were there early to eat before the ballet. Our waitperson, Kelly, was very attentive as well as sensitive to our time constraints.
Our meals were perfectly cooked and served hot. I had the corvina, my husband had the mixed grill. The portions were just right. It’s a pleasure to not be ‘over served.’ We were both were well pleased.
Our only regret that we didn’t have time for dessert. But next time -because there will be a next time!
We choose this restaurant based on ratings/comments from others found online. This was a first time experience for all of us.
A party of 6 dined together for a business holiday gathering. The service was polite, friendly, timely and helpful. Making a selection was difficult due to the menu options available. All who attended commented that their food was delicious (all 4 courses). The overall experience was very enjoyable and I would highly recommend.
Thanks for the experience!
We were passing through Roanoke for the first time . Searched out a Zagat rated restaurant and stumbled upon Alexander’s. What a marvelous find. From the moment we arrived we were given a glorious table that was preset and waiting. We were treated like royalty. We were served delectable drinks, and the most amazing fresh food impeccably prepared to our dietary requests. The restaurant is beautiful , the service impeccable, and the pricing reasonable for what we were served!
For a special occasion we always choose Alexander's. The service is outstanding. We have our favorites on the menu. But have never been disappointed when we tried a special. The portion size is just right, so that we can enjoy an appetizer, entree and dessert. Dessert always with coffee, because theirs is fantastic.
Attended for a special birthday celebration with my adult daughter prior to attending an event at the nearby Berglund Center. The drinks were excellent. The menu provided a good range of food items, wonderfully prepared, and beautifully presented. Service was very good; attentive withour being intrusive. Bjorn attended to our every need, even stopping to take pictures for us in front of one of their floral displays. He was very accomodating and fun to talk with, and was careful to take photos from several angles and had us review them before we sat down to be sure they were to our liking. The decor is comforting and homey while not being pretentious, with comfortable seating and tables large enough for drinks, appetizers, and dinner plates without being crowded.
At my request (submitted on the Open Table reservation page) they provided an appropriate birthday dessert for my daughter. Bjorn called me a short time before our reservation to discuss the available dessert options that night so that everything was set up ahead of time and my daughter was completely surprised when the dessert arrived as we had no need to discuss it while she was there.
The mildy deconstructed shrimp etouffee was outstanding and a very satisfying portion offered on a chilly, misty night. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection and were buttery tender. We left nothing but bare bones.
I hadn't been to Alexander's for at least 10 years. I was happy to see the delicious small salad and crispy French baguette which come with the meal, as well as, the delicious "glace au chocolat" which was my favorite dessert.
I had the lamb rack which was delicious and my friend enjoyed the scallops.
I highly recommend this restaurant for an special evening out.
The food, service, and ambience were as always: very good! The only thing I have never cared for at Alexander's is the delay between the seating process and the server's introduction/taking of beverage orders. That has been the restaurant's modus operandus for years, and I've just never liked it. The customer feels ignored. And the delay is usually considerable: more than 10 minutes or so...
Otherwise, top spot with great food and lots of locals to enjoy on a night out. Great for special occasions.
Fantastic service. The deconstructed California Roll and BBQ shrimp appetizer were fantastic. My girlfriend had the Veal Scallopine and I had the Center Cut Pork Chop and both were delicious. We had the bread pudding for desert. An amazing dining experience.
Were visiting Roanoke and saw the ratings on Open Table and decided to go. Glad we did. They were very accommodating. We needed to move back our reservation and they were flexible. We had outstanding service. The staff was very friendly and helpful in selecting our meals. The atmosphere was great for a quiet dinner. The food was outstanding. Be sure to save room for dessert. We will return.
This was the most expensive meal I've ever eaten, but it was also the most delicious - so totally worth it since we were celebrating a special occasion. Bjorn was a fabulous waiter, & the entire staff made us feel pampered & important. Fancy experience that we would love to enjoy again!
Our 38th anniversary and once again we chose Alexanders. We have had 25 anniversary dinners there. Is that a good recommendation or what?
Simply put, Alexander's is exquisite. It is superb, it is the best. Food, atmosphere, service, are all exceptional. It is always a memorable time spent at Alexander's.
I was not very impressed with the menu offerings or pricing. Our server, Bjorn, was wonderful, and the Chilean Chardonnay he recommended was amazing (and I don't typically like Chardonnay), but my husband left hungry, even with an appetizer, steak dinner, and dessert.
We live in Jupiter Fla and on our way to family we always stop in Roanoke for dinner. Alexanders is our most favorite go to restaurant in the area. So much so we stop there EVERY time.
We ordered the mixed grill of Chicken, scallops and shrimp
Which was Devine especially paired with their complimentary salad for each entree' ordered. My husband had their special for the night fresh caught cobia with a mushroom ragout and delicious seasonal vegetables always seasoned perfectly. Their signature desert glace' with pralines and their homemade chocolate sauce is outstanding. The drinks are good "pours" and service is distinguishable and we enjoy "Rachel" our server each time when in town. The ambiance is quiet chic casual and would make anyone feel comfortable dining there. Alexander's is a true find and you will not be disappointed. Making a mistake if you don't choose this restaurant.
We had a delightful meal to celebrate a special occasion. Bjorn put us in the window, we felt like we had a private table. The mixed grill was very good, and my wife enjoyed the shrimp and rice dish she had. The sidecar we had prior to dinner was very enjoyable.
We will definitely go again.
We stayed at Roanoke Inn (great place) and walked into town for this reservation based on reviews. Man, was that ever a mistake! Reservation was early, and our lunch had been late, so we were not very hungry and only ordered appetizers instead of full dinner. Without any warning that it would cost $4 extra the waitstaff asked "if we would like bread with that". We nodded yes and she disappeared. About 20 minutes later we were presented with extremely meager small plates of food ($12 for one scallop, for instance). Then when we were presented a bill, we were charged an additional $4 surcharge/plate for not ordering full meals -- that comes to a $12 total extra charge -- with no warning. We will never return to this establishment as they are clearly intent on separating customers from their money. VERY POOR experience. BTW: the tiny portions were pretty decent, but were totally overshadowed by the shabby treatment.
I was so disappointed. The place is very pretty, bot soooo noisy. The food was okay, but nothing exceptional. Rack of Lamb very fatty and chicken that we ordered was very lemony. Parking was an issue too. The service and staff was excellent. Place was very busy, which makes me wonder if there are better restaurants in Roanoke??
