Alexander's on 30th Ratings and Reviews
Overrated, overpriced and straight up wrong. Food wasn’t impressing (lukewarm), tiramisu taste like cardboard; when we asked the waiter about the wine selection he had no idea. They crammed in so many tables it was uncomfortable to have a conversation. The jersey rigged white wall had massive spiders and when we brought this up with the waiter his words were “omg, I’m glad you guys moved because I would of freacked out” and left the spider on the wall. Definitely not the Valentine’s Day dinner we hopped for. Felt robbed after paying $230 for what reminded me of bad wedding food. Not sure that I would return on a regular business day.
We enjoyed our dinner, the food was very good. One corrective criticism please turn up the lights, its very difficult to read the menu in the low light level. Several diners were using the bright light on their phones and it became distracting to others. I do understand that you are trying to create ambiance for your diners.
First time at Alexander's on 30th, had a reservation at 6:15PM, despite we were 15min late due to GPS taking us somewhere else and no parking near the restaurant (we parked 4 blocks away) they took us right away. Inside was very noisy, so we decided to seat outside. Food and wine was very good, service was excellent and most important a very calm, relaxing and charming atmosphere. I can't wait to go back.
The Services was terrible and the staff were just extremely rude. I Made reservation and requested to be seated inside to only be told your sitting outside and this why you get for booking the same day or wait another hour and half for what I initially requested. My food was ice cold and disgusting. Top it off I get a broken chair.
Very cute and polished ambiance without being snooty. The service was great, the servers friendly and attentive, and the portions enormous and tasty. I went with a friend but there were large groups, small groups and dates as well. It was a good noise level so that you felt your conversations were actually private but you could hear each other well too.
We always enjoy Alexander's. This time staff was quite accommodating when running a bit behind the reservation time. Understandable. But our waitperson disappeared after delivering the dessert menu. We finally had to ask podium staff for someone to take our order. No explanation, no apology. But a minor glitch, and we'll be back.
I love this place. I've been here before but opted to come again for a special occasion. It was an occasion that could have been very stressful but they went above and beyond to ensure that I didn't have a worry in the world. As always, the food was incredible. Our server, Rex, was knowledgeable, attentive and hilarious. I can't wait to go back!
First time and I will definitely go back. Food was outstanding. The garlic bread is ridiculously delicious. Don’t eat too much or you won’t eat your meal. Our server recommended something’s and we went with her recommendations and everything was delicious. Service was excellent too. Only tip, avoid the table that looks into the bathroom. It is not the best for an ideal appetizing evening. Otherwise it was perfect.
It was so dark in the dining room that we could not read the menu or see what we were eating , and we had to resort to using my iPhone’s flash light. Roasted beet and goat cheese salad consisted of very few pieces of over-roasted beet chunks which in the darkness looked black. Our entres were very disappointing. Cheese ravioli tasted doughy and the sauce was so heavy that the taste of seafoods was overwhelmed. The home-made lasagna was mostly inedible with a couple of sheets of hard pasta stack to the bottom of the baking dish and the thick crust at the edge of the dish looked and tasted like it had been left in the oven way too long.
This was a great little neighborhood gem that we are so glad we tried. Went for my daughter's 25th birthday; the food was great - nice portions, seasoned well and great selections. Beautiful, understated elegant dining with a nice, quiet ambiance; perfect for a romantic evening, friend's get-together, or family dining. We will definitely visit here again, the pizza was very, very good.
We celebrated a birthday and everything was perfect. From the time we were seated they were attentive. The food was excellent. The server made sure we were all served at the same time. I appreciated that tremendously. The food, the wine and the birthday tiramisu was perfect. Will definitely go back. My new gem.
Restaurant, Food and Customer Service are great. Unfortunately, we were not able to enjoy/finish out dinner due to my daughter having an anaphylaxis reaction. My daughter is allergic to shrimp and although we did not order shrimp, we suspect that the mussels we ordered may have been cross contaminated. Not blaming the restaurant, we should've asked. Writing this to warn other who may have allergies to seafood/
We had a lovely dinner--5 of us who ordered a variety of dinners. Linguine w clams had a ton of fresh clams, the fish was fresh and delicious in the seafood pasta special, the filet mignon was a large cut and cooked well--the spaghetti and meatballs was good but I really think they left out some seasonings. Would be surprised if there was any salt in the meatballs....
We have liveed in the neighborhood for over twenty years now. With two of the best Italian restaurants in San Diego within a mile of our house. We have not branched out. We decided to try Alexander's , because you can make reservations on Open Table. Now we know what we have been missing all of these years. Rex the great Waiter recommend the Sea food pasta special. It was so tasty.
We now have a new Italian restaurant. And with the ease of using Open Table it will so became one of our regular places
I surprised my significant other with a great anniversary/ New Year’s Eve dinner there. We presented immediately walking into the place. As you view the scene, you have some of the most amazing Chefs working their magic. In addition to to great candle lighting. We order the most amazing 3 Course dinner and the bonus l, was able to watch a movie on the outside patio as we sipped our red wine. Thank you for a great time!
