Such good food! Such a nice place. My favorite place to come for birthdays!
We had a reservation and yet they put us at the worst table in the restaurant on the outdoor patio where it was unsheltered and very cold. While there was 1 heater and later 2 heaters, it didn’t really help because the table was in a windy area in front of the kitchen door. We asked to move inside and they said no. We asked to move to a more sheltered table outside that was empty and stayed empty the entire time we were there and they said no because it could accommodate 6 people and we were a party of 3. We have had good experiences at Alexander’s before and were very disappointed by our poor treatment. There was no excuse for not seating us at least at the empty sheltered table on the patio.
Great romantic place to dine. Love the pasta special and $2 wine every Tuesday. Mondays they have a pizza special which is also good.
I loved the ambience of this northern Italian restaurant - formal but not stiff and chic but friendly. Great choice for a special evening. Our waiter Justin was excellent and I loved that Chimay Triple (White) was on the menu - excellent beer choice. The bad: I ordered the seafood pasta special and it was atrocious. It was as if the chef dumped a bottle of cream and butter on top of linguine with shrimp and scallops. It tasted like Chalk and looked like a bowl of liquid chalk. Seafood hard to spot. There was no other topping of any kind and I couldn't eat it. I should have sent it back, but I"m too polite and don't like making a scene. This needed a subtle, small amount of sauce with white wine and a tablespoon of cream to make a great Alfredo plus some other flavorings (herbs, garlic, crunchy veggies, etc). It was the worst entree I've had in a major restaurant in a long time. My companions ordered off the menu: The Walnut gorgonzola veggie pasta looked great as did the pink peppercorn pasta with peas and added sausage. I know they can do a great job. I would stick with their traditional menu and most popular dishes.
Really great place with great food and service
It was a great experience! The food, service and atmosphere was outstanding!
Steven our server was great!
The table we sat was great!
Thank you for providing a great experience !
We have a new “go-too” Italian Restaurant in SD.
Lovely Italian place on the corner. Beautiful service. Easy dining experience. They even brought out a little dessert when they learned it was our anniversary. Lovely!
Excellent Food & Service 👌🤩
Our favorite place to dine for special occasions. The outdoor patio is lovely, and very comfortable. The movies are an added bonus.
New Year’s Eve
The ovens where not working. So several plates were off the table, and some they were out of.
Alexanders is a hidden gem. The ambiance is great, the service is great and the Food is Greater. Never had a ad experience...Highly recommended.
Justin was our server and very attentive, personable mixed with a sprinkle of good humor. This was our first time at Alexander’s and we were so impressed that we were talking about when we could get back while still finishing our meal. The pizza with fresh basil was so flavorful and fabulous! The fresh seafood pasta was creamy and tasty beyond words. I can’t wait to come back. Super delicious and great service!
It's our favorite place not only in the neighborhood but in all of San Diego. Food is always great. The specials are always interesting and the wine list is well selected and a value. Oh, and it's beautiful with
great outdoor space. If you haven't tried it, please do yourself a favor, go, enjoy...
Romantic ambiance. Great service. Food was good but nothing out of the extra ordinary. Ordered the lobster ravioli, bruschetta prosciutto, cannelloni beef, Bolognese pasta.
We had a large group and they were very accommodating and all the food turned out great. Also loved that they split the plates for the couples that were sharing!
We dined on Christmas eve and were not aware of a prefix menu. There was no mention on this site when I booked the reservation. One thing i found interesting as well is that it was a very Italian themed menu. The main courses were steak, stuffed chicken and ravioli.
The service was decent but the server was a little in the weeds. She was friendly but I do not believe she was used to working at a busy restaurant. Th other issue was that it took 28 minutes to receive our soup. If it were not for the cooks on the line it would have taken longer. We were sitting at the bar and they pointed out to the staff we had not received our soup yet. It was obvious that there was not an expediter to run the tickets as it was a free for all with the servers just taking what was on the line.
Overall it was just an okay experience that could have been better with a bit more preparation.
My wife and I have been here several times and each time the food and service was very good. Unfortunately, that was not the case on Christmas Eve night. To start, we were seated outside, which was not great as my wife is 37 weeks pregnant. They claimed they had no seats indoors. After ordering, the appetizers came out on time and were good, but then there was a 45 min lag between the apps and main course. It took several requests to finally flag down our server for a simple water glass refill. My wife and I ordered filet mignons and both came out overcooked. My friend’s ahi tuna arrived 10 minutes later while my wife and I stared at our food. It too was overcooked. After we finished eating our entrees, wouldn’t you know it, it started raining. We had to run under the cover of the patio and finish our desserts while it rained overhead. With so many good restaurants in San Diego, It’s safe to say we will not be coming here again in the near future.
We had to get up and ask for a waiter to come to our table after waiting 10 mins without even getting water. They took away our plates before we finished, never brought additional bread when requested. Mixed up our entrees, brought our food out at different times for each person and my entree got cold waiting for the server to bring flatware to the table to replace mine that had been cleared with the first course.
Problems with the kitchen. Food came out after an hour. Ambiance was beautiful
Food and service was great! Definitely would recommend this place to friends and family. The lobster ravioli was delicious.
First and Last time- no host at the front, which lead to a big unnecessary confusion as more parties arrived. It should have been quite simple as we all had reservations every party indicated who was with whom. We were a half hour early for our reservation, which we indicated. We suggested if they needed us to wait until our designated time we were happy to do so. It took the host about 5 minutes to figure things out. The patrons were getting visibly frustrated as it seemed that it shouldn't be as confusing as the staff was making the experience. Once we arrived at our table the host said, we have another reservation in an hour so...I looked at her and said, I'm not sure we will be done in an hour and we had a reservation so if you would like we can move to a different table where we will not be rushed. She retracted her comment, which I felt was absolutely not good customer service, especially for patrons who had a reservation. Our server was fantastic! We were seated out on the patio and another server working the patio thought it would be a good idea to crank up a speaker of music. We kindly asked our server if something could be done since we could barely hear each other speak. The table next to us agreed that the music was just way too loud. We understood that the tables on the other side of the patio probably weren't bothered by it, however, our tables were right next to the speaker. It became a problem! It was obvious the server wanted to her music while she worked and wasn't concerned with what the customers were asking for. My husband eventually got up and unplugged the speaker after the third time asking for the music volume to be reduced. All of this could have been over looked if the food was mind blowing but it just wasn't. We both ordered pasta dishes and they were meh... nothing too exciting. Given the level of customer service we experienced we will not return. There are too many other great Italian restaurants in the area!
I would absolutely recommend Alexander's, and for every occasion! Alexander's has become the place that my girlfriend and I have celebrated every anniversary. Dinner has always been delicious, and the service is perfect! We also recently held our holiday gift exchange with friends at Alexander's and everyone was very impressed. It's always hard to select a restaurant that will please everyone, but this place definitely has something for everyone. For appetizers, you can't go wrong with any of the bruschetta options, and the stuffed mushrooms are great! The filet mignon dinner has been my go-to, but I also like their lobster ravioli, and their rotating specials have never disappointed. If you have read this far, I have failed you....you should've already made your reservation!!! :)
Great food, great service. Servers were very attentive and prices were reasonable.
The ambiance is beautiful as well as the decor. I love the all white decor as I feel like I’m not in laid back beachie San Diego.
Service is always on time and attentive. Definitely a top 5 go to Italian ristorante.
Excellent service and delicious food!
Made a reservation for a birthday and was seated in the worst seat on the back patio with view of the storage area. Had to ask for a heater.
Food was average at best. Wont return.
Sadly, I fear this enterprise may have become a victim of it's own success. What was one a enjoyable non-chain neighborhood relaxed dining experience has now become a hurried and less than average quality offering. The wait staff is hurried and seemingly taxed with too many tables of responsibility. The orders came late with no acknowledgement to a very obvious delay. The tent in the rear of the establishment reminded us of a poor hotel imitation for a wedding reception only missing a bad wedding singer. Being direct, the food was late, average in taste and less than hot. The wait staff disorganized and non attentive. With so many outstanding choices in the area, I would not recommend Alexanders to a friend or colleague.
I wanted to take my GF to Alexander’s, since I had been here before. We had pizza. She said it’s now her new favorite pizza place . It was also my birthday. The waiter brought a tasty birthday desert . We will be back .
Amazing, as per usual.
Pizza was a burn and hard. 1st experience like this.
Pasta was very good. Our server was not aware of our needs .
Alexander has been one of my favorite restaurant. I was so excited to bring a new customer. 😔
I love this place for the ambiance and beautiful interior! The service is also outstanding! However, the food could use a bit of improvement. We ordered a margherita pizza that was basically a cheese pizza with a few tomato slices and sparse basil. I would’ve expected a crispy crust pizza with nice chunks of mozzarella, tomato and leaves of rich basil. I was disappointed. The salad was great, wine is great!
Had an amazing thanksgiving dinner here. The food was delicious and everyone was so nice and accommodating.
Went for the 4 course prix fixe menu on Thanksgiving and it was a wonderful, special meal. The food was all delicious, especially the squash soup and the filet with the wild mushroom port reduction, both of which were absolutely outstanding. The restaurant is very stylish in a minimal and classic sort of way, it's really beautiful inside. Our server was charming and attentive without being overbearing, the four courses of our meal were all spaced perfectly apart and we never felt rushed or were left waiting. I will absolutely be back to Alexander's for a regular non-holiday meal; I'm smitten.
Nice corner restaurant. Thanksgiving was a little pricey and, while the service started out ok, we felt rushed. Main course arrived warm to cold. I'd give it another try before condeming. I think they had some flooding going on at the same time so they may have been a little off their game.
The food is absolutely amazing. This was our second time, so we tried the lasagna and baked bolognese, which was make your toes curl fantastic.
Great setting. Great food. Patio seating is awesome!
