Alex Madonna’s Gold Rush Steak House, at Madonna Inn Ratings and Reviews
This was the first time I have ever celebrated a Valentine's day, and the first Valentine's day with my girlfriend and the Gold Rush Steak House was the most amazing experience ever. The food was amazing, the ambiance was something from a movie I plan to make this a tradition for us.
It was our second time coming there! I loved it the first time it was amazing and so we decided to have a fancy date night.. our server wasn’t as nice and helpful as the last lady we had before.. otherwise that food was amazing and the pink champagne cake is fabulous! Probably will be coming back sometime , but now I know what to ask for when I call for a reservation... oh also that night music was a little to loud the microphone kept doing that awful sound when it’s to loud and pierced everyone’s ears ? Maybe should keep the music a notch down but otherwise love it!
The food was quite good and prepared as requested. The table service was fine, but with an advance reservation we waited 10 minutes to be seated in an almost empty restaurant. The man showing us to the table told my wife when she requested a booth that there were no booths available because we had not specifically requested one, and they now were all taken. We left 1 1/2 hours later and there were still numerous empty booths. The same man did not pull out a chair for my wife, and was very perfunctory in depositing our menus on the table. The waitress who waited on us was good. Interestingly enough, this is the third time we have dined in the restaurant at various times of the evening, and the same man has been setting up for live music. However, we have still to hear any music being played during the time we were dining, other than the canned music they play while they go on and on setting up.
My wife and I to went The Madonna Inn for a romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day. We had our wedding reception there in 1971. We live locally and go to the Madonna Inn for our anniversary and birthdays and we enjoy the tasty food, excellent service, and of course, the desserts! We especially like the Madonna Inn house champagne, locally produced.
This evening was a real treat for both of us. The prime rib, Caeser salad, expertly cooked sweet peas and handsomely adorned baked potatoes, with all the desired ingredients, were fabulous. Our server, Jared, was so attentive and fun and he took excellent care of us. A highlight was when a young couple near us got engaged! We watched as the man nervously spoke to his intended. She gladly put on the ring and admired it for a moment then, she immediately pulled out her phone and called friends and family. Since we were sitting behind the bride-to-be, we could watch the screen change from a delighted face squealing with joy to a close-up picture of her ring! The faces changed but the ring sparkled each time.
Another lovely occasion at the Madonna Inn!
We spent the weekend at the inn and had dinner at the Steakhouse. Food was delicious, little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for! I gave service 4 stars only because we were first seated at a small, poorly located table. With my reservations well over a month in advance and being a special occasion, I requested a new table and we were accommodated immediately. There is live music and dancing in the adjacent ballroom Wednesday through Sunday starting about 8pm so if you want a quiet dinner, you may avoid those times. Although for us it was pleasing.
Today is my birthday. Went here for dinner. We live in San Diego. Been here many times over the years. Was just here in September, plus stayed at at the Madonna Inn.
Tonight our server was awful. The busser was better.
When she came to the table to introduce herself (Roseanne), she interrupted the busser who was talking to us. My husband ordered Caesar salad, that was awful. He sent it back twice... never ate it. Caesar salad was a $1.00 up charge. Steaks were ok. I had to ask for a refill of my Diet Coke several times. At the end of the meal, she said she had something for me. She brought a piece of cake for my BD. She never asked the rest of the party if they wanted any dessert. We saw her present a desert tray to another table, but nothing to us. She brought the bill, and there was the $1.00 up charge for a salad we didn’t eat!!! We paid the whole bill. After, I went to the manager and he said he would talk to her and said they have turnover and new people.
It was not a good experience for a high-end restaurant... over $50 per person. I expect much better service.
A disappointing birthday.
I was entertaining relatives from out of town and wanted them to experience the Madonna inn. The place doesn't disappoint in terms of atmosphere. The food and service are subject particularly for the cost. I ordered the slider appetizer and it was terrible. The meat was so overcooked and dry. There was hardly any brie and no sauce to speak of.
Our waitress was no where to be found. Most of the time. Fortunately my guests had a great time.
Went for our anniversary, hoping to make a splash with my wife, and Madonna Inn did not disappoint. Portions were considerable food was tasty, steak cooked to perfection. Fried Chicken some of the best I've ever had. The month of January they offer a Prix fixe menu, which allowed us to sample a few things we probably wouldn't otherwise go for. Service was fabulous, and the dining area is something you really need to experience at least once in your life if your on the Central Coast. Not the cheapest fare, but definitely satisfied.
I decided to try SLO restaurant month with my family on New Years day. Food was amazing, the waiter was absolutely amazing & very attentive to us. We loved the holidays vibes still going on along with the music. I would recommend for a special occasion such as anniversary or date.
