Aldos has lost some of its charm and intimacy since moving from their old location. This feels like a new trendy mainstream restaurant, but the food and service are still great.
Way too expensive for the quality of food. Appetizer was pricey and mediocre, salads tasteless, main dish bland and gelato was...well gelato, which ain’t ice cream. My wife got a steak that was epic, but that was the only bright spot in an otherwise disappointing outing.
Wonderful crab appetizer in a brown butter sauce. Scallops made perfectly. Cioppino was a delight. Service top notch. Aldo has been consistent for years, and the new location is no different.
Food was outstanding!! Very impressed and will definitely go back!
The move to Dominion Ridge was a sad event with closing of the fine old house where Aldo's served in the medical center. BUT, the new location is fresh and a bit more upscale. Service was excellent. Despite being full on Sunday evening the volume did not impede conversation at all. I am glad that this restaurant goes on even as development has driven it out of the medical center.
We went there for Sunday brunch. Every thing was fine, but not extraordinary. I thought the plates were expensive for the portion sizes and quality of food. Again, my $21 salmon salad was ok, but there was nothing special about it warranting the cost. I was hungry 2hrs later. Service was fine as well. The ambiance is really nice. I believe I would recommend to a friend, but prepare them for the overall experience.
Food was okay to good but not great. Service was good. Drinks good. But again not great.
I can't find fault in anything but nothing was outstanding.
Overall a bit too pricey for what you get.
I ordered the lamb chops, they were a good size (3) and meat was tender. The meat had very little seasoning so was flat tasting, it would have been greatly enhanced had a rosemary or mint sauce accompanied them. Others at the table were pleased with the dishes: salmon, scampi fettuccini in particular. The dinner salad was plentiful. The escargots has too much lemon in the sauce, buried the natural flavor. Bread was hot and fresh.
The reservation had been made two weeks in advance and I had contacted the restaurant to add one extra setting. When they called to confirm on the reservation date they had everything correct BUT when we got there the extra table setting was missing. Obviously a communication problem. The restaurant ambience very nice but noise level high so conversation across a table difficult. Children at next table boisterous and noisy, one older child dancing in the corner. Overall, it’s a good start for the new location but staff need more training and menu needs tweaked. Price wise it’s appropriate for this side of town when compared to others in vicinity:Bourbon St,the Grill at Leon Springs and Silios all within a short distance of each other. Will return to check it out after it has stabilized
Amazing as always! Good customer service!
Although crowded when we arrived, we were seated quickly and the service was very good.
Special that night was outstanding..
Terrific food and service. Very cool new restaurant.
Nice ambience. Excellent service. Wine was great. All fish and steaks were done perfectly. A really nice feel...
We dined at the new location for Aldos at the Dominion. The new interior is very nice, however because of the floors and high ceilings it was very noisy. The food was excellent and wine choices were very good but the prices have increased considerably since they have moved and since we are wine drinkers, this might keep us away from the restaurant.
All of the great service, food and attention of the "old" Aldo's now is in our neighborhood!
We were excited to try the new location closer to home, but was nothing like the old location. Dining area was crowded and the noise level was extremely. Service was poor at best. Had to ask for bread and no oil or butter was available. Tables situated so closely together you couldn’t help but be involved in everyone’s conversation. Food portions smaller
Doubt we will return.
Have been a patron of the original Aldo’s, that was on Fredericksburg Rd. The new place is very noisy and the menu has changed, additionally the food was not at the caliber of the original restaurant and more pricey.
Very good meal with great service. Extremely noisy.
Another great meal at my favorite place. If you haven’t gone yet — get there fast. You will really enjoy the pasta dishes. And be sure to have the house dressing on the salad.
Noise does not allow for a nice conversation and food not up to Aldo's usual standard. Thanks!
Just OK. The carpaccio was kind of blandly prepared and the carbonara was average. The sea bass was dependent a little too much on the sauce. There is only one dressing available for the salad.
No bad, but nothing unique here...other than the cool mural behind the bar.
Great service and great food.
Great food, great atmosphere - a must try. The new location is very nice. Only wish they were going to serve lunch during the week.
We have celebrated special events, birthdays, anniversaries...and dined weekly or biweekly at Aldo’s for over 25 years. We have loved the ambiance, piano music, and have cherished the ability to talk after a busy week. We often commented while dining that multiple generations of diners were engaged in conversation in the restaurant.
The move to the new strip center location is more than a much longer drive for us. The room is lovely. Open, high ceilings, interesting mural... it was crowded so I’m happy for the owner. It was also so noisy that my husband and I had to lean in to hear each other. I felt like I was dining with the couples on either side of us. The service was very disappointing after years of bragging to others about how good it was. The wrong wine was brought to our table, the appetizer came with the salads...asked twice for ice for the wine...so many missteps... I guess service stayed at the old location with the white table cloths and live piano.
The food was lovely as always. Prices have crept up over the years but that is not a deal breaker for us. We are happy to pay for great food and service. The noise level IS a deal breaker though . The Dominion area has a gem as far as food is concerned...if you love the ENERGETIC ambiance. For us, the added distance, poor service, noise, will make us unlikely to return. Sadly, it feels like saying good by to an old friend.
One of my favorite restaurants in a new location—closer to home. Great building. Great food. Thanks for moving to The Dominion Plaza.
Beautiful interior. Unfortunately, the acoustics are such that it is almost impossible to have a conversation because of the noise level. That spoiled the dining experience for us.
Good place for date night or dinner out with friends.
New location for Aldo’s- modern/comfy vibe. The chandeliers add excitement to the dining room. Waitstaff eager to please without being annoying. Delicious food- we enjoyed lamb chops and scallops. The salad dressing is one to concoct in my own kitchen- loved the herbal lightness of it!
Wine list is well put together- took some time to choose our Merlot and Malbec - and we were not disappointed.
We look forward to some pasta dishes on our next visit.
Aldo’s is a long time favorite of ours. The new location across from the Dominion is ideal for us. Our first night there was Date Night, the Grand Ooening and a 70th Birthday all rolled into one great evening. I recommend Aldo’s highly.
We have dined at Aldos for many many years. My family always enjoyed our evenings from start to finish. Food is devine, service is kind.
We have brought many friends to your restaurant.
We went to celebrate a birthday and the service was excellent. Although it was their last night in their current location, you would never know. It was business as usual. The food was good and the waiters wine suggestion was excellent. I will definitely go back.
I consider myself a tough critic when it comes to Italian food. We frequent good restaurants on Arthur Ave in the Bronx. The food was fine here, just not great. Pasta was overdone, too much sauce, sausage wasn’t that good.
Nice wine list. Had the Stag’s Leap cab.
Great food and fantastic service, will definitely return.
It was lovely as always. Saying goodbye to their old location.
We really enjoyed our visit to Aldo's for our anniversary. I am really sorry they are moving their location as it is a beautiful spot and close to the Health Science Center.
We love this place because we love the food and the ambience. We have come there since 1992 and we will to visit
Loved the quiet atmosphere. The service was top notch and the food was amazing. Looking forward to going again in their new location
We are always pleased with our experiences at Aldo's. This quaint restaurant has an amazing staff that always remembers important dates, such as anniversaries. The food is amazing, and the ambience is the best part of the whole experience. I proposed to my wife here, and we've come back every year, not just for the anniversary of the proposal, but for our weeding anniversaries as well. This is an excellent romantic restaurant.
Our waiter forgot to put our to go order in so we had to wait for it. He completely forgot our coffee order.
I’m so glad we got to try this charming little gem in the original location before it moves in Jan 2019. The food and service was excellent-the bread alone is worth a repeat trip :) and my three finicky eaters (ages 6 to 10) all loved it too despite the absence of a children’s menu. Was a lovely place to celebrate Christmas Eve.
