Alchemy at Giovanni's
Welcome to Rockford's first convertible restaurant, featuring open-air dining in fine weather. Raining? Cold? Snowing? The weather is always great inside Alchemy. Stop by for extraordinary food in a casual environmental. Our one-of-a-kind menu features house-made bread, pasta and gelato, as well as woodfire pizza and 36 craft beers on tap.
The only problem I had was that the pizza I ordered wasn't hot. Everything else was great as usual.
Came up Rockford for one night and picked Ed this place randomly. Nice atmosphere. Ordered Asian fried rib appetizer which had a nice kick to it and very tasty. Our main meals were nothing great. Shrimp scampi not that tasty and my husband ordered the barbecue sandwich which not very meaty.
The food is consistently good. Very enjoyable evening.
Great food for our first time. Kinda tight space along the bar area.
Valentine's Day dinner was disappointing... They reduced the menu for the day, and raised the prices. The cooked mushrooms side dish was drowned in butter and excessively salted. The sweet and sour brussel sprouts were more like flaky chips, and we're difficult to eat with utensils. The Farm Ginger Salad was small and lacking for what was charged. The main course salmon with accompanying 5 grain risotto was tasty, but it was more reminiscent of eating a tapas dish. The odd half-booth setup makes it difficult for an intimate evening. It's more like communal dining.... The servers kept bringing the wrong dishes to our table..... And on top of it all they reported to Open Table that my fiance and I did not show up for our reservations. The bill was over $100, not including any alcohol.... There are plenty of places in the suburbs and city of Chicago that provide a better atmosphere, superior culinary offerings, and I'll pay 40% less, with better service.
Everything was very good except I don't know if I'd ever order calamari pizza again? There are no words to explain the flavor of this type of pizza. The pesto sauce and kalamata olives, were not a good flavor combo, the smell alone should have warned me, but everything else 2 thumbs up!!
Great experience from start to finish as always! Food was excellent and our server was very sweet. We’ve always loved Alchemy ❤️
We’ve been a quite a few times and usually enjoy ourselves. We had some family in from out of town so decided Alchemy would be a fun treat for everyone. However this trip was disappointing. Every beer we chose was out. After our third try we finally found a beer they still had on tap. Our server was absent most of the time. Although, the lovely gentleman who cleared our table was extremely courteous. We will probably stop in again If it’s convenient but won’t go out of our way like we did this time.
Food was incredible. Drinks were amazing. Service was ‘off the charts’ excellent. This place is a gem.
Fantastic menu. Something for everyone. Was a great birthday celebration!
Service was fair but food was not up to my expectations.
The food was good, but not equal to the cost of it. Most diners appeared to have a "status" arrogance about themselves. There are plenty of restaurants in the area with better quality of food without the status atmosphere.
Absolutely! Can't beat the buffalo shrimp or the tuna tacos.
Food is always wonderful and service. Such a breath of fresh air!
Bummer. Tried Alchemy again for our anniversary. Every time we go to Alchemy, we have horrible service! So surprising because the food is good. This time, we waited an hour from when we were seated for our dinner to come. We were confused...we had ordered an appetizer. Where was it? We never got it, but our dinner came. The waitress rarely stopped by, so we didn’t get a chance to ask. The appetizer wasn’t on our bill, so who knows.
She was super nice and did tell us that it was her first night doing dinner service there. Fine, but we didn’t even get all of the food we ordered! Then, I waited 15 minutes before she came by to see how our dinner food was. I couldn’t catch a single person to get me ketchup for my fries.
Hope that someday they can get the service part down. Not a stellar anniversary dinner.
Been to Alchemy many times before and was looking forward to another great experience.
We got there about 5:30, and were immediately seated. Our waiter greeted us within a couple minutes. Our drink order was taken and our appetizer orders were placed. The food was brought our promptly and was just fantastic. The order of calamari was more than enough for the two of us to share. The cheese plate, though I know it frequently changes, was not quite up to par. Specifically, I think there were may too many different flavors that just didn't complement each other, and the creamy cheese had no crackers to pair with it. But each on it's own was very good. What wasn't good was the service. I'm not sure if it was due to the large crowd that had come in, but it seemed as though the other waitress serviing the other side of the room was hustling her tables, really well, and our server was just working at a much more "relaxed" pace. I notified the server that we needed the check, because we had an appointment to catch. He brought us the check, eventually, and I gave him my credit card right away. Then I think he took a dinner break, because I had to ask a manager to go find him and bring my check, which the manager did in about 45 seconds. The atmosphere was good as always, and so was the food, but the service simply fell short this time, and left me seriously disappointed.
I surprised my husband with a group of 9 people for his bday. Without asking, they put us in a private back room, which was so nice and quiet. Our server was excellent and very attentive. The food was delicious. My only gripe was the “tater tot” appetizer we got which was only four “tots” and it was $10. A little overpriced for what it ended up being. Otherwise the drinks and food were great. I would definitely come back again.
I asked the server about the old fashions. She said they were "not bad." She was wrong; It was not good and incredibly small.
Ordered two appetizers. The brussel sprouts were like the leaves I throw away after I trim them and they were relatively tasteless. The calamari was just bad!
We left and went to another restaurant to finish our meal.
I do not recommend this place.
service and food were awesome as usual
The spaghetti with shrimp... tiny pieces of shrimp. Looked like 1 shrimp chopped up. I asked for grilled chicken and server did not charge extra because kitchen took a long time to bring out. Server was awesome!
All of the food was excellent, with the exception of the short ribs. The short ribs were less than good and should be removed from the menu, unless fixed.
Amazing Menu ! The best atmosphere of any place in town . I had forgotten the name of the wine I ordered the last time I was there ...Christian the manager saw me at the table and had it for me ! Who does that ?? Alchemy does :)
Recommend a dress code...I don’t like to spend $230 for 3 people for dinner and look around to see cut off shorts, beach wear and lots of skin! Need to keep it classy!
great service; good food
alchemy never disappoints
always a great choice for dinner
I took my wife out and was very hopeful due to the high reviews. However all the food was very unseasoned. The dishes look well put together but the flavor was not worth the price.
The place is more hype than quality.
Had to keep waiting on our waitress. She was more involved with a photo shoot than caring for her customers. Asked three times for our drink bill, finally got up asked hostess for it. There was only four tables outside. Very poor experience will not return or recommend this place to anyone. Lost the family feeling that Giovanni's used to have . Big Al would be disappointed with the place. I was.
Excellent menu, many items to choose from to suit every taste. You can also order from Legacy, their next-door steak house. The food was top notch in quality, taste and quantity. Everyone took home a doggie bag. The service was fast, attentive, and friendly. We will go back.
the best in town for a laid back atmosphere with great food
This is a fun place, it does get a bit loud, but that's the vibe. The food is priced on the high end, ( none of the meals come with salads or sides, even the pricey entrees) but it was very tasty, especially the homemade pastas. The server seemed busy and so service was fair. We would go back as it is a fun place.
Reserved a table for a first date. Everything was amazing. My date and I enjoyed the food and drinks.
Food was delicious, service was absolutely terrible. I won’t be going back.
Food was great and service was fantastic.
Great food as always.
The food and staff were fantastic.
Great food in a great space! A find in the Rockford area.
Stopped in on a Monday evening. Made reservations but not needed. Service was great and the food was quick, unique, fresh, hot, and very good. The highlight for our family was the tater tot appetizer. Would like to visit in the summer when the overhead doors open.
Great food, good service, although fairly noisy, given adjacent event facilities and loud background music.
The food has been good every time (the pizzas are awesome!), and I've found the staff to be accommodating and attentive.
Food was great. Service was good. Only complaint is that they allowed people to smoke right by an outside door very near where we were seated and you could clearly smell the smoke. We did complain and I believe they mentioned it to a manager, but by then the smokers had moved on.
First time here, Nice modern decor, great layout. Food was really good, selection is nice with a lot of different items. the food is somewhat pricey, sides are extra but there is enough for 2 people. Pizza selections were interesting. They do offer a steak menu, you have to ask for it. Overall very pleased and will go back.
