Good selection of tapas and some very tasty dishes
fabulous food and excelente service by benito and company.
Best Spanish meal I have had outside of Spain.
The food and wine were so good that I was surprised at few other diners were there. The place deserves a larger following. We shared several tapas and a great bottle of wine. The place is small and only ok ambiance. But I would go back for the food.
Very authentic Spanish, great service
The food and service were excellent. I had six different tapas. All of them were very good and I also had fresh sangria.
We love this restaurant. The food is fantastic, the service amiable and attentive, never had a bad meal there.
Place smelled of fish as soon as you walked in the front door. Paella was good not memorable.
Good, Cozy Spanish Restaurants. Staff are fantastic, great service.
Food was very delicious. Small squid with black sources dish was excellent taste. Paella was also very good. However price wise it’s not a recommendation.
Next day we went to Benjamin steak house and had a very big fillet and a big rib eye steak.
It was cheaper than Alcara.
Overall Alcara dishes are too much solty.
A small menu but very tastefully and consistently executed.always worth the visit.
Great food with mellow atmosphere. We loved the Christmas music.
Great food; owner and his own Cabernet were very good
excellent, authentic Spanish food. Can't say enough good things about how much we enjoyed this wonderful neighborhood restaurant. If we are in NYC , we will make an effort to eat here again.
Very good food & service. It’s quiet not noisy.
The food was outstanding. We went for the tapas. Shrimp w/garlic in a butter sauce, lentil soup, even the bread was amazing. The service was very attentive without being intrusive. We even compared food notes with the people at the next table. Everyone there was having an equally awesome experience. Thanks Open Table for the recommendation!
Great neighborhood place! Excellent food. Try the sizzling shrimp!! Seafood paella as good as any we've ever had. It's a little bit off 2nd on 44th but worth finding! We'll be back soon!
Tapas selection was great. We were aiming for vegetarian, and we had really nice seafood choices. Among wines, Priorat options were slim, but nice Riojas were available. Service was impeccable. Great time.
Alcalá is my favorite restaurant. The food and service are superb. I take family and friends to the Alcalá every time I can.
Great food, very nice wine selection.
Restaurant could use a remodel as it looks a bit tired. Location is great for those going to the UN and food is good. Authentic Spanish.
Overall great selection of tapas and paella. Their sangrias are top notch as well.
An excellent evening over at Hohl. My wife had the asparagus appetizer which was excellent. Followed by the monkfish. Also an excellent choice. I started with the gazpacho soup. Wonderful. Followed by the calamari black paella. Simply wonderful.
The tapas menu is extensive and worthy of exploration. The small plates add up to a bountiful meal for sharing.
Attentive service. Great food, flavorful and good quality.
We enjoyed our experience at Alcala. It ks everything that Spanish food is about.
Excellent food. The lunch menu was a great bargain. Highly recommended.
This is a fantastic restaurant that offers a variety of traditional and updated Spanish cuisine. We ordered tapas of chorizo and patatas bravas, and on a hot day the white sangria hit the spot! Entrees included tuna, monkfish with salsa verde and chicken breasts with artichokes and sherry sauce. All were delicious. I look forward to future visits to Alcalá.
Too salty food but taste is not bad, kind and less crowded
Warm welcome, authentic in delivery and ambiance. Excellent on all levels!
Excellent service and food. will definitely come back.
The food was delicious. No real recommendations from the waiter for first time diners at Alcala. An item my guest wanted from the menu (the asparagus) was not available. The place had an authentic feel. It was special to be greeted by the chef and owner.
I had lunch with two colleagues and we enjoyed the food and the service.
Very small, and friendly restaurant! Very attentive staff, very friendly, and on the ball!
The food and wine was exquisite!!!
We were made to feel welcome as long as we wished to stay, and the offerings just kept coming.
Girlfriend said it was part of the best date ever.
Nice ambiance, good food and most attentive service.
AMAZING tapas and sangria! The staff was very helpful and friendly! I went with two friends (three of us total) and we split 6 tapas and the cheese platter and it was the perfect amount of food. I would recommend in a heartbeat!
Lovely quiet dinner ambience. Great food and value. Attentive service.
With an inviting menu and a welcoming and charming decor, it’s disappointing that poor service diminishes the enjoyment of the occasion. On the last three occasions that I’ve visited Alcala, the two same overwhelmed and very unfriendly servers work to bring food to tables with robotic demeanor. Asking for water, asking for bread, asking for the check and waiting very long periods of time for food are the standard of service.
For the cost of this place you would think you would get better service. Our host/waiter was dry, unfriendly, rushed when we were the only ones in the restaurant. The food however was pretty amazing as was the wine. But they truly need to do a training with staff on friendlier service!
We had a good dine. Overall, I was expecting a bit more. Appetizers were good. The dish I was a bit disappointed was the paella. It had a lot of flavor, but nothing extraordinary. I’ve had it in many other restaurants in NY as in the Madre Patria, Spain. Too many peppers for my taste. Again, we ate the whole thing, so it was good.
