Get a seat on the patio. Otherwise not worth it
Our server Lily couldn’t have been nicer!
Thank you Lily!

Lunch outside on patio by the waterfall made our trip to the San Diego Zoo that much more memorable!! Long Island Ice Tea & Firefly Lemonade along w/Nashville Crispy Chicken Sandwich were Fantastic!! Fabulous service & experience!!
Hard to get to. We had reservations, but you have to up and down to get to. We never would have gone to without reservations.
The Prado is the kind of restaurant my mother used to take us to in the 50’s and 60’s when I was a growing up in Los Angeles. Great ambiance, comfortable, inventive menu and attentive service. My sister and I had a wonderful time and it made our visit to Balboa Park the highlight of our day exploring all the Park has to offer.
The steak salad was delicious. I would come back for that! The toast with fig jam and gorgonzola that accompanied it was absolutely perfect.
Too cold inside
The restaurant was actually the best part of the zoo. Each one of our dishes were beyond spectacular! Sitting out by the waterfall is very special. We did our reservations ahead of time through open table.
Taking our friends to the wonderful Zoo
The food was good and portioned well; my favorite was the calamari as the coconut sherry sauce was absolutely delicious with it. For the amount of people dining by the waterfall, the noise level was moderate. Service left much to be desired. Our server just didn't seem attentive at all throughout our meal, and she snapped at me when I reiterated that I wanted to add a donation to my check for the Australian wildlife fund. It dampened an otherwise good lunch.
Albert's is a great venue and has outstanding food. Service is very good and prompt. If the restuarant is full you hang out at the bar. Good full service bar.
Six of us went for brunch. The food was delicious and just enough different that it was a fun to try new things. The service was truly stellar. Our waitress was super friendly and very efficient. We sill definitely be going again.
Very nice place. Quiet spot in the middle of the zoo.
I ordered bean soup that turned out to be chili beans. Big difference between bean soup and chili beans but apparently this restaurant doesn’t know. My daughter ordered the fried chicken sandwich and the meat was tough. Very disappointing lunch.
Was very noisy and had to wait over a half hour for food.
Seriously the best gem in the middle of the zoo! amazing service and food. A welcome rest from a big day or perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion with the family.
I had not been to Albert's in quite awhile, but had always enjoyed it previously. The hostess was friendly and had a great rapport with customers and our server was exceptional. The prices were higher than I had remembered, especially for a lunch. I was with my husband and another couple. The beer that I ordered was mediocre, and not worth the price of $8.50 for a pint. It was a cream ale. I wished I had ordered a cocktail or another beer that I was more familiar with. However, my meal, the Brussels sprouts quesadilla was incredible! It was so tasty, filled with yummy cheese, roasted Brussies, and a very tasty pepper; slightly spicy but mostly savory. It was worth the experience! My husband, unfortunately, did not enjoy his fish tacos. He said that the fish was flavorful but the corn tortillas were like store bought tortillas. Not flavorful, not authentic tasting at all, so he recommended to our server that Albert's source their corn tortillas elsewhere. Our friends were happy with their meals (the fish basket and a salad) and also the cocktail that they ordered. Overall, it was enjoyable, just a bit pricey, and a bummer about the tortillas. I would still recommend Albert's to a friend, though, as it's a dining experience inside the World Famous San Diego Zoo, that is something you can't get anywhere else. :-)
Ambience and food are amazing! We celebrated a birthday and they accommodated our request for patio seating. It was perfect.
Really cool , it’s in a tree house! Give yourself a few minutes to figure it out as it’s located in the middle of the tree house (you’ll get what I’m sayin) Although there is plenty of signage when you’re near. There are views of the park but your set an a jungle style situation. I recommend requesting an outdoor table if the weather is good. There is a kids menu which is always great and the price was very fair including wine.
Good food for being in a zoo. I was expecting less, so it was a nice surprise. Service was a bit slow.
We arrived on time an our reservation was honored at an "outside" table. From the menu we selected a good appetizer (fried calamari) for the table, which was the right size for four. Then we split two chicken sandwiches which were quite the right size for the four of us. We declined desert and went into the zoo for several hours of observations, starting right there at the gorilla enclosure.
Seeing these mighty beasts in captivity was depressing, but that is the nature of a Zoo, even one a ecologically sensitive as is the San Diego Zoo.
Our visit to the Zoo was mightily enhanced by Open Table's fine reservation system, for which we say "Thanks!"
Pleasantly surprised by the deliciousness of the food at Albert’s. I never would’ve guessed Zoo food could be considered on the upscale side. We will definitely be dining there again
The restaurant needs to be thought out better, with semi-fine-dining options that don't create serving bottlenecks and delays, since the time is coming out of valuable zoo-visit time. It's just too slow, whether to be seated, even if your table is ready as the servers run behind, to get menus and order, or to receive food, and even to pay. Kid food, like pizza, should be ready-made. Salads, even with fish or meat on top, should come out very quickly. There is too much emphasis on revenue per customer, driven by the new bar, and less on taking the time pressure out of people's day. We are locals and long term zoo members, but it just isn't really pleasant to go to Albert's as a result.
We always have such a lovely experience at Albert’s. The entire staff are excellent!
We always dine at Albert's whenever we come to the San Diego Zoo - delicious food, prepared in innovative ways and great service. Dining there adds to our zoo visit immeasurably.
On this visit, the pumpkin hummus was the star of the show! I love pumpkin and hummus, but never would have thought to combine the two. It was an inspired dish, accented by fresh figs, arugula and pepitas, served with naan.
The food was mediocre. The menus were dirty and there wasn’t a lot of options for brunch. I won’t be returning. Too pricey for what we got.
Food was delicious. We had an unpleasant experience with one of the hostesses, but our waitress was amazing.
I’ve always loved Albert’s and make sure I reserve a table and ask to sit outside when I go to the zoo. Although, they don’t have heaters since they’re not usually open late so keep that in mind.
The zoo warns you they can’t accommodate food allergies and sensitivities, but Albert’s does have a few gluten free items on the menu and stresses you let them know about your food allergies so they can advise you on your order. I don’t believe the gluten free items are from a gluten free kitchen, so I’d double check before eating there if you have celiacs.
We went on an extremely busy night, but were seated promptly at our reservation time and did not suffer the effects of the business- Our waitress was present and our food came out expediently. Overall, I highly recommend Albert’s if you’re going to the zoo for a special occasion or want an upscale dining experience while there.
Best place in the zoo to eat!
The food was delicious. It is a family place so noise and messiness is to be expected
Service could be a little better though
The front reception is very unorganized and despite having reservations, we were seated late. I asked to be seated at a table adjacent and the hostess refused to seat us at the table saying it was in a different section. Not customer friendly!
Definitely going back to Albert’s! Great food and service!!!!
Love it always. Such a great find.
Did not honor reservations and had to wait over 45 minutes after scheduled reservation time for a table. Very unprofessional hostesses were lying to guests when they arrived.
Since it was Christmas break and the day of the Holiday Bowl Albert’s was extremely crowded. It was amazing how well everyone handled their individual job. Service was a trifle slow but with the crowd that was to be expected. I have been going to Albert’s for many years and love it every time. My husband and I went there many years ago for an anniversary. It still remains a favorite place to go and take guests.
Food was not good. 6 people at our table and nobody enjoyed their meal. Took a long time to get it and it was undercooked, overcooked and bland; overpriced and so we were disappointed.
Was in town with family over Christmas. Wanted to eat a nice meal while at the zoo. Good overall experience, ambiance was great, food was good.
The staff is wonderful and the food is excellent. They work very hard to make sure our experiences is perfect.
Food, service was great. Good place to take a break and refuel.
