As a zoo member, great tucked away locale.
We celebrated my daughter's 21st birthday. Amazing ambience great cocktails really good food.
Albert's food quality significantly has improved, and is now comparable to many fine San Diego restaurants (e.g., many in the Cohn Group, such as The Prado Balboa Park, or many of the dishes at the Grant Grill). I had the cassoulet, and it was excellent (not as good as the finest French restaurants in the world, but every bit as good as the majority of fine French restaurants in the USA). The food no longer is heavily salted and there are numerous choices that do not cater to the USA tourists to the zoo from outside California (e.g., Texas and the Midwest), although the fare more typical to such tourists still is available. In short, it is now worth dining at Albert's. If the chef changes in the future, then this review may need to be revised. The menu also is more ovo-lacto vegetarian friendly than in the past (not certain about vegan).
Decent food, somewhat overpriced. Was expecting more, honestly. Reminded me of wedding food. Family loved the hot wings. No gluten free options.
Excellent food at a great price!
Food and service was amazing, great seating. Can't wait to do it again.
Well they don’t reserve outside dining, that was a bummer, did get a table outside, so it worked out.
The service was excellent. The ambience was lovely. The food was OK, but not great. It's nice to have a comfortable place to take guests for lunch.
the food is not consistent in quality of preparation. One in my party had a cheese sandwich which was overfried and fish tacos the fish was also overdone. The hostess seated a walk in before seating us with a reservation even though the walk in came in after!
Wonderful atmosphere, calm, quiet break from touring the Zoo
This is a very nice restaurant and the food is very good. We ate on the patio which was such a pleasant experience. Beautiful waterfall and nice ambiance. We had a reservation, but opted to wait for a patio table and the hostess was very accommodating. Our waiter seemed a little stressed and was slow to take our order, but all in all it was a great dining experience. I would definitely go back.
Less Vegetarian options. Food was good, but pricey.
Overall will visit again and would recommend to friends.
We have been going here for years and always have a great experience. The food is always great.
Excellent service and loved the patio with waterfall however none of us in our party really enjoyed the food. My ravioli was VERY oily, my daughter mentioned how her hummus was an odd assorted things that didn’t really go well together, and my husband didn’t feel well after eating his fish tacos.
Great service, atmosphere and tasty food experience.
Great service and good. Highly recommend this restaurant if you’re at the zoo.
It was a pleasant experience. The truffle fries are to die for!
Very creative menu options and cool tropical breeze in the outdoor dining section. Excellent service.
Always a pleasure to eat at Albert's. No restaurant setting in San Diego is as beautiful and calming, the food gourmet and a great deal, and the staff skilled and very pleasant. Our favorite place to dine out in San Diego.
Albert's is the only full service restaurant in the San Diego Zoo. Its menu is quite adequate, but not exotic. The service is good and prompt, and the full bar serves adequate drinks. The environment is like a jungle clearing with lots of foliage and a waterfall. Customers have the option of outside seating, which is nice but conversation is difficult with the noise of the waterfall. We are members of the zoological society and we occasionally come to the zoo just for dinner at Alberts.
Really fun place to dine while at the zoo. African masks are fun to look at!
Eating lunch at Albert’s was a nice break in the day.
A relaxing oasis in the crowded jungle, Albert's is our go-to for a relaxing recharge during a day at the San Diego Zoo. Great drinks, amazing food and wonderful service are all highlights in the tranquil treehouse environment. Definitely not to be missed!
It’s nice only if you’re sitting outside. Not a nice smell inside. Food itself a bit fatty. Good picks of beer.
We went for brunch on Saturday, 10am. I got the Nutella French Toast and my husband got the Breakfast Plate. I LOVED mine and my husband said his was really good. I highly recommend if you're eating at the zoo. It's much better than the food you get at one of the walk-ups and you'll be spending about the same amount (our bill was $30).
Great food, and always a wonderful ambiance out by the waterfall. Service a little slow, but with a smile.
It is always a pleasure to eat at Albert’s. The service is always excellent the food quality very good and the atmosphere especially in the afternoon great. It was our first time to do an evening meal if we have any complaint it was just that it was a little noisy for the evening time. But again the service was great, the food excellent. We would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes to be at the zoo.
Great location on top of the trees. The food is definitely higher quality than everything else you find wandering around the zoo. But, you pay for it :). The adult beverage menu was nice and we will definitely be back!
This is the best full-service option at the Zoo. Having said that, they seemed to be understaffed for the lunch service. While the restaurant wasn't completely full, our food took a full 45 minutes or so to arrive, which isn't overly long, but we ordered fairly standard items (especially the kids' mac and cheese/burger).
Nice location inside San Diego Zoo. Food was good. Service was friendly but slow.
We always try to stop by here when we visit the zoo. Most of the food is really good but there have been a few that have been just ok. We don't recommend the fish tacos and do recommend the flat bread. Their bloody Marys and blue martinis are very good.
Jacob is aweorm
The Adobo Chicken Sandwich was dry and had to be sent back. The fish tacos had seasoning so spicy they could not be consumed. Five of the sandwiches have chipotle or chili in them. The Miso Glazed Salmon Salad was excellent but I question the need for such spice in so many of the dishes. The ambiance is very nice and we sat outside by the waterfall and the service overall is good.
After a tour and roaming the zoo, Albert’s was a wonderful break. The decor and tree-top feel were perfect and I loved the spices in the hot and sour soup and in the calamari sauce. Everything the three of us had was excellent. A great stop.
The food was good, the setting was wonderful. Service was good too.
I went for my birthday and I have to say that the food was very mediocre at best. The ambiance was nice with the waterfall but a waterfall and cloth napkins do not make up for ok food. I also have to say that the hostess never took her eyes off her phone the entire time we were there and barley looked up to help us when we arrived for our reservation. Our server was nice and helpful and tried her best. We ate there on the 25th of Aug 2019.
Good restaurant with great service. Only a few complaints. When you make a request for outside seating, don't expect to get seated there unless they are not busy (which is practically never). It's just a request and there is no guarantee you will get seated outside. A bit surprising and we had the option to wait for a table but with 2 families ahead of us waiting already, we said forget it. Also, a table for 6 people is really a table made for 4. They could not accommodate a 6 guest party with nothing bigger so it was cramped. For the price we spent, would have been a bit more enjoyable if we were more comfortable. Other than these two items, food was very good (not great but it's a Zoo so...) and the server was great. Just thought I'd give a heads up on the two items noted.
The zoo was closed due to gas leak and no one called or emailed to let us know. We went there and was stopped by a sheriff. A call or email from open table would have been nice.
