A great get away. Service was a little thin, but for the prices you have to expect that. I think the top item for lunch was $22. This is sit-down service in a lovely jungle environment - inside or out.
Great restaurant! Beautiful covered patio. Restaurant was a bit loud.
We always enjoy Albert’s when we visit the zoo. We prefer to sit on the quieter and less crowded patio.
The Brussel Sprouts Quesadilla didn't taste good at all. The Black Pepper Garlic Bread was delicious!
Food was overpriced for what was offered. The service was good.
Our server George was amazing! He checked on us several times, he was fast, he was pleasant, and he kept our glasses full all the time! We have reservations and we were seated immediately. The fish tacos were great and so was the Chicken sandwich. We definitely will go back!
The hostess was very friendly. Reservation was found immediately. She sat us quickly at a wonderful table near the waterfall. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. This was a wonderful addition to a great day at the San Diego Zoo!
The food was amazing! Service was stellar. Will definitely come back as often as possible.
My Birthday lunch with my family was wonderful.
I booked a reservation 2 months in advance and asked for seats in the outdoor patio area as it was my spouse’s birthday. We were offered seats at a center table in the indoor portion. We had to request to be seated outdoors and was offered the only seat in the hallway and right by the entryway to the indoor space. Reservations do not matter as they were sitting folks as they came in, so if you were lucky, you could maybe sit out by the waterfall. I go into detail about this because the prices for the food is not cheap. Average is around $25 for an entree and the food was just okay (ordered 2 fish tacos for $18) but nothing special. We decided on this restaurant for the unique waterfall space and thought we were clever booking ahead. Would recommend trying the other food offerings which offered better views of the park for a cheaper price.
Albert's is a perfect place to dine to get away from the crowds and relax in the "rain forrest" setting. We had the brussel sprouts quesadilla and roasted carrot, pear salad which was excellent. Great selection of wine, beer, and mixed drinks. This is our go to place when visiting the zoo.!!
Our server was extraordinary! He gave 110%
Front desk was very accommodating & our food was 👍
We made reservations more than a month ago and were greeted to an outside view where the waterfall was at. Our server Terry was not only nice but attentive to our needs, the food was beyond our expectations and can’t wait to bring my whole family to Albert’s. Crispy Seafood dish was so good and full of flavor and so fresh tasting that I wish I can make food just as good back home!
We sat in the patio, a very popular place. Everything was fantastic. It got a bit breezy, so we asked if they could turn down the speed or completely off two of the 6 ceiling fans. We were told according to the supervisor “turning off any of the fans would disrupt the timer”. Thus, it could not be done. Well, after the meal, I discussed the matter with the supervisor. I informed him that as a General Contractor and a licensed (retired now) electrical contractor, I know a thing or two about electrical circuits.
I told him that, turning off any of the ceiling fans would not “interrupt” the time clock. He has been given wrong information. Next time I will take a jacket with me.
Patio has a waterfall and very lush landscaping
So nice. Love to have a chance to cool off and relax. Great atmosphere and food is really good. We think it’s a great value too, because you can buy a nice meal and be full, so you’re less likely to spend money snacking, plus it’s probably healthier. Oh and don’t forget the the full bar.
My visit was just okay. I made reservations and was seated fast. I ordered the flat iron steak salad which was good but waited approx. 15 min to get my food which I thought was too long. My daughter ordered mac and cheese which was similar to kraft mac and cheese and she did not eat. If I were to return to the zoo I would skip this place.
Overall very good experience — it just too long and took away from zoo day
The service was great but the food was poor. We have visited Alberts many times and I have found the food quality and menu choices are way down. They use to be very good prior, but very disappointing now. The service is great, since the old staff is still there. Our server agreed with us that the new menu choices are being complained about.
The food & hospitality was on point. Our food took a little longer than usual & our waiter did everything to accommodate us. Also our reservation was at 12:15 & my sons hyperglycemia kicked & the hostess got us in a little early. Thank you Alberts Staff!!
Ambiance was nice and the service was good. The food on the other hand was terrible. The Margaritas we ordered were so sour we couldn’t even drink them. The food was bland and the chicken and fish was dry. The outside patio was really nice and the waterfall a nice touch.
Outside on the deck was wonderful. Great service and food too!
We had reservations and in a pretty empty restaurant they sat us at the table right by the main walkway to the patio. We ordered the fish tacos and it was extremely dry! I asked for the tarter mix that comes with the seafood basket to try and help out the dryness but it did not help. My sister actually sent hers back and didn’t eat. My kid had a grilled cheese sandwich which the cheese seemed like processed cheese that never melted and the sandwich was very tough. I also put on my reservation that it was my sons birthday but they did not acknowledge that at all. I was so excited to eat here and left very disappointed especially for the price it cost.
Ordered the fish tacos And the fish was dry. My boyfriend got the spicy chicken sandwich and it was OK. Service was great, Restaurant was very comfortable and cute. I just wish the food was better. I would recommend to someone who needs a break as long as they don’t expect much from the kitchen.
Everything was really good from the moment we arrived at the restaurant. Our reserved table was ready when we arrived approx 10 minutes early. I thought the food and service were very good although a little on the pricy side. All things considered, we had an excellent experience!
Everything was good the service the food and we were Sat by the waterfall for my grandson birthday thank you again!
Great lunch, great service
Best pumpkin hummus ever -,with fresh figs - very tasty
If you need a break and want a glass of wine then this is the place. Fish tacos were really good. Much better than eating food from a concession stand.
I asked to have a small plush toy that signifies love on the table in which we were going to dine on. It wasn’t put on the table and it wasn’t even mentioned to me at all why it didn’t happen...This was my Wife’s first time visiting the Zoo in her life and I really wanted to make the experience even more memorable than it was... great food and scenery though.
The food was not good. The server was polite and accommodating.
Excellent, fresh food
Great service! Delicious food. We especially liked the pumpkin hummus, Brussels sprouts quesadilla, and salad with poached pears. Beautiful ambiance in the heart of the zoo.
Such a great restaurant , awesome service. Order the Pear Tree martini, it’s no longer on the menu but they’ll make it for you. So good!!
Nice location. Fabulous hostess Food was delicious but our waitress Megan seemed annoyed and kept looking at her watch. She disappeared frequently and we paid the bartender so we could leave.
As a zoo member, great tucked away locale.
Pleasantly surprised by the menu options! We will return.
We celebrated my daughter's 21st birthday. Amazing ambience great cocktails really good food.
Delicious and beautiful!
Albert's food quality significantly has improved, and is now comparable to many fine San Diego restaurants (e.g., many in the Cohn Group, such as The Prado Balboa Park, or many of the dishes at the Grant Grill). I had the cassoulet, and it was excellent (not as good as the finest French restaurants in the world, but every bit as good as the majority of fine French restaurants in the USA). The food no longer is heavily salted and there are numerous choices that do not cater to the USA tourists to the zoo from outside California (e.g., Texas and the Midwest), although the fare more typical to such tourists still is available. In short, it is now worth dining at Albert's. If the chef changes in the future, then this review may need to be revised. The menu also is more ovo-lacto vegetarian friendly than in the past (not certain about vegan).
