Alan Wong's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We love Alan Wongs and save our visits for very special occasions. For our anniversary last night we were not disappoint ted in the food but our waiter Troy seemed like it was his first night as a waiter. Although we were late due to traffic, we waited 10 minutes for acknowledgement and then only after 3 attempts to flag him down. I hope Troy will provide better service to future guests. Also our guests brought us lei, and when reserving they asked if there was a special occasion, yet our anniversary was never acknowledged during our visit.
Thankfully we love Alan and will continue to support his business. And as always, the food was spectacular and well worth the poor service we encountered. I will always recommend Alan Wongs to anyone who wants a fabulous dining experience.
We chose Alan Wong's for the last night of our week in Hawaii and it was everything we hoped it would be. The food was innovative and extremely well prepared. Everything was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. This place has a very good reputation and deservedly so. Overall this is the sort of meal one looks forward to for experiencing cutting edge cuisine in a pleasing environment. The restaurant's website doesn't mention it, but there is valet parking available which is a must since the location is not at all conducive to self parking. The $5 valet parking fee is well worth it given the high price of parking elsewhere in Honolulu.
We were celebrating our arrival in Hawaii and the tasting menu was totally grand. We had one order with wine and one without and it was perfect for two people, where one was driving. They were so gracious about having us share the wine. We felt quite pamperpered.
This venue was highly referred by friends, where I cancelled my normal birthday venue to give this place a try. Reservations was at 7:45pm, where we were taken in promptly. Once getting seated, this is a narrative of my experience. After sitting around for 10mins, we finally got water around 7:55pm. It was not till 8:15pm where we were acknowledged by the waiter, and it was during this time where I have looked over the menu multiple times to a point where I can rehearse the items. The waiter kindly apologized for the wait. After being greeted, the waiter then without hesitance said to please look over the menu again. It was not till 8:45pm where we have placed the orders. 8:50pm bread was received. 9:00pm appetizers came out, which were amazing. 9:30pm entrees came out, short rib was a little over seasoned and unfortunately my partner got a little sick from her seafood platter dish. 9:55pm we got our dessert, which were excellent (The Coconut), but the crunch bar was bathed with too much Cocoa powder. We did not leave the venue till 10:30pm. I would definitely give this venue another try, unfortunately my partner has other thoughts.
The food was pretty good (with the exception of the short rib being overly sweet) and the ambience was amazing, but was not impressed by the service as both our servers seem arrogant and not personable from the moment they realized we are not ordering wine and only hot water and two cocktails. Made us left feeling disappointed and regretted leaving too much tips (20%) which they didn’t deserve.
It was our last night in Honolulu and we were hoping it would be a nice ending to our family trip since so many people we knew had recommended this place, unfortunately we left feeling quite the opposite with the insincere attitudes from the waiters.
Wongs highly recommended by a friend. Had to wait for a reserved table, no waiting area except for a seating cube for two, initially seated by the kitchen service swinging doors, could see dishwasher from my table. Requested a new table. My party of three ordered fish, the opakapaka signature dish was spoiled and had to be returned for which the server confirmed its odor. Patron who ate partial opakapaka had gastrointestinal issues two hours after consumption. Diner was comped for the bad fish but no amount of money can deal with midnight visits to the bathroom. #recovering.
There is a reason why it is difficult to get a reservation here. The menu is creative but approachable, the food and flavors are outstanding, and the service is gracious without being obtrusive. Our party of four were all quite pleased with their dinners to the point that I would assume that every menu item is a great choice. I wouldn't come back to Honolulu without eating here.
Came here for our 10 year anniversary. Our Server Jennifer was outstanding. Very attentive and helpful. We ordered the tasting menu and bottle of champagne. Hits and misses on entrees for me. I don't really like ginger too much so the ginger crusted Onaga wasn't my favourite. Beef short rib was ok. Appies and desserts were superb though. The coconut dessert is picture worthy! Overall not bad. Would revisit for special occasions.
It was a busy Friday night, and unfortunately we got sat late about 25 minutes for our reservation, but our server was very accommodating and took care of our first round of drinks. The food was unique compared to my usual palette, but it was all surprisingly very delicious! The service is great, and the food is wonderful. Would definitely recommend!
We haven't been to Honolulu in ten years, but every time we come, we go to Alan Wong's and it has never disappointed. Even though there are not a lot of vegetarian options listed on the menu, the chef always prepares something amazing for me and I really mean amazing. Good food, beautifully presented. Attentive and nice staff. I love this place.
I was charged for an item I never ordered, and when I called to inform them of the mistake, I was given no apology and redirected numerous times, having to explain what happened every time, and still have not reached a solution. The hostess even accused me of ordering the item (a large coffee) when I know I never ordered it. I don't even drink coffee. Finally, I was directed to the manager after being told to call back, and sent straight to voicemail. I still have not received a call back from them. Hard to believe this is one of the most highest rated restaurants on the island. I should have gone to Hoku. The food was average at best. I will not be coming back, and definitely don't recommend this place to anyone.
We went to this restaurant and got the tasting menu. It was the best food we’ve had in Hawaii. The seafood lasagna was amazing and maybe the best thing we’ve ever had. The coconut desert was a must too. The server jennifer was equally amazing and should be recognized for her level of service.
As advertised. Tasting menu ranks in my personal top 20. And I've had 50 years of tasting menus. In response to a standard question from the waiter as to how the meal had been, my wife mentioned that the beef "was a little dry." Deep apologies from four different people followed as did a reduction of the tab by the cost of a cocktail. Either they sincerely care, or they are prepared to fake it well. I'll take either possibility as the sign of good management. Don't try to park. They fetch a cab for you after the meal is over. You'll get to continue the enjoyment rather than try to drive in downtown Honolulu.
We spent a great evening with my boyfriend celebrating is belated birthday at the restaurant which is one of the best in Hawaii! I can just say the food was excellent, outstanding and attentive service, pleasant atmosphere.. The only thing I missed from other Alan Wong's is the variety of bread at the table but all in all I think is really worth it!!!!
My wife and I order a beet salad, bone marrow and sashimi salsa stack for appetizers. The beet salad arrived within 10 minutes after we placed our entire order with the server. After we finished the salad...it would take another 15 or more minutes to receive the bone marrow and sashimi salsa stack. In fact, we sat at our table wondering what was going on...as the table next to us who sat down maybe a good 15 minutes after we had placed our entire order received their appetizers much faster than we did. After our appetizers, we sat for another 10 to 15 minutes waiting for our main courses (my wife ordered the twice cooked short ribs and I got the venison). As you can see by now, this “waiting” is starting to become a trend but we were not in a hurry so no big deal to be honest. Last but not least, we finally arrived at dessert and we ordered the shaved ice. The dessert took another 10 to 15 minutes to arrive...and when it finally did arrive...our served warned us that the dessert is top heavy so be careful when eating so it does not tip over. With that warning in mind...I actually held on to the glass vessel with my hand while we started to dig in with our spoons. My wife made a comment to me that the rim of the glass vessel is cracked and in fact...it was actually broken...with a pretty big chip of glass missing from it. I looked at it...did not think much about it and said that we should just continue to eat...as sometimes...plates/bowls/cups are chipped and broken...no big deal. No more than a few minutes later...my wife told me that felt something hard in her mouth and she pulled a big piece of broken glass out. Luckily she did not chew on it nor did the glass cut her mouth but this was alarming to say the least. Server comped out drinks and dessert order...but the damage has already been done and we will never be returning.
We had our anniversary dinner here while traveling here in Oahu. At first, we thought the location of the restaurant was a bit odd as it was situated far away from Waikiki region like other fancy establishments. Nevertheless, the service was excellent and foods were truly great. They made our evening so special.
