Alan Wong's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Excellent food...best we’ve had in Honolulu for years. We did the five course tasting with wine pairings. Food was excellent for each course. Wine was 4 out of 5 but maybe just our taste. Service was very attentive but not overly memorable. Ambiance was charming but lacks the wow of newer/better locations. Only real miss in our opinion is that we mentioned celebrating Valentines (2/15) but servers didn’t even wish us Happy Valentines. Oh well...we will be back for the food.
We were there for Valentine's dinner and it was spectacular! The food and presentation are so incredible; I cannot give them enough superlatives. They had included all of their signature dishes in the special menu: butter poached lobster, tomato soup and kalua pig sandwich, onaga, coconut dessert and more. If you are a foodie, like i am, you will not be disappointed. The $95 dinner was worth every penny.
We went for an early Valentine’s Day dinner. It’ll probably be our last time going. The food was good but almost everything was seafood except the steak and ribs. They use to ask if you wanted more bread but I guess they stopped asking. Everyone was friendly and courteous but the menu’s variety is virtually one sided...seafood.
Service..poor. I seldom..nearly never..complain about service..this was lackluster.uninterested.uninformed.
Very good soup served simultaneous with mediocre to poor cold stale appetizer.not even enough room on the table..one dish would have to get cold
Appetizer stale..replaced with lookwarm poor flat marrow..I do far better at hole
Description of (actually quite good) fish course was disinterested and wrong.
Coffee..excellent ..a remarkable selection..which the boredvwaiter did not care to explain
This would have been A very poor showing. At a low priced chain operation..unacceptablecat a premium table
I have been a fan of Alan Wong's for years but this experience really put me off. When I checked in, the hostess did not even welcome me to the restaurant or bother to smile and didn't even put down her cell phone before directing me to follow a passing waiter. They rushed us through our early seating dinner and then came dessert where I waited 40 minutes only to have the waiter to come back and ask what I wanted again. The $10 cup of coffee was long since gone by then. The food was just OK, like it just rushed out at a catered dinner, and at those prices, I expect more. It is the customer service at Alan Wong's that was the big turn off and in Hawaii a lack of Aloha Spirit is not a good thing.
Was very disappointed with Alan Wongs. Made a reservation for our anniversary had to wait a extra 20mins when arrived on time. Then ordered the tasting menu which wasn't cheap. The dishes were random and unbalanced. For example the dessert had a cookie and a truffle on it... and everything was chocolate their was nothing on the plate to cut though the rich and sweet flavour of the chocolate.
A visit to Alan Wongs never fails to be exceptional. Outstanding cocktails, locally sourced creative fare from appetizer to dessert. This is absolutely my “go to” restaurant whenever I am in Honolulu...and may very well be the best restaurant I know of anywhere.
We always get the tasting menu, one with the wine pairing Sharing the wine allows us to enhance the food pairing experience while not drinking too much. Your entire table has to order the tasting menu. The selection of courses is unbelievably good, no one complains.
Just okay -
We have dined at this restaurant several times and have always been very pleased. This time the meal was a disappointment. At this price point I will not b willing to give it another try nor would I feel good about recommending it to others.
Too bad - it has always been a treat up to this time.
We told the waiter my husband is allergic to scallion. The Long tail fish came filled with scallion so we sent it back. The rest of us at the table had to eat our dinner because the fish took forever to come back. We could not find a manager to speed up the return of his fish. There are lots of distracting waiters running around without efficiency for a restaurant of this caliber. Drinks came to the wrong table. Total bad experience .
