Casual, friendly, good food, excellent service, not rushed, half-price wine night a good value, reasonable prices overall. We look forward to going again :)
Monday evening features half priced bottles of wine. Come in early (before 7), it is quiet and you get personalized service.
Gathering with our kids who are students in SF. We were looking for great seafood and we found it!
Wonderful restaurant. Excellent food, goid service, wonderful neighborhood feel.
Food was great and service too. Towards end of the dinner the door was opened and heavy-duty detergent used to kick us out. Bit ironic when you pay compulsory 18% tip for "great service".
We had a wonderful and cozy pre- concert meal here on a rainy evening. Service was friendly, food uncomplicated and well prepared. Nothing inventive, but delicious nonetheless. Great neighborhood feel. We will return often to this gem.
We had a little occasion, 6 people who wanted to talk. Food was great, the place was comfy, and our server was delightful. It's in a nice quiet neighborhood and is a lovely place for an excellent dinner.
We were going to a show nearby so went for dinner. It was fine. Nothing special. Not great but not bad.
Great food and service. Loved the neighborhood feel!
We liked this place. We came for dinner before a show. A little further to walk than preferred but not bad. Good value overall. Will come back again.
This was our first time at Alamo Square and we loved it. We had a pre symphony dinner and though it is a bit of a walk...maybe 15 minutes, it is well worth it The service was warm and helpful and the food was delicious and a wonderful value for the money. We have already recommended it to friends and will definitely go back.
Charming neighborhood spot with friendly service. We started with the calamari and crab cakes for the table, and then each of us got a different fish with a different sauce. Everything was fresh and seasoned well. A must for anyone looking to try something off the beaten path!
It's hard to leave a review because the night we dined there they were short-staffed. We weren't in a rush and could tell it would be a long wait for our food, but figured we would give it a try. The single waitress was doing the best she could to tend to the whole restaurant seating people, taking orders, bringing food and clearing tables.
When our calamari arrived it was not hot, the breading was not cripsy and was quite flavorless. The fish and vegetables for our entrees were a bit better but I still ended up putting lots of pepper on everything because it was pretty bland.
I'd be willing to give it one more try since it was a nice atmosphere and perhaps the food was sub-par because they were short-staffed.
Small restaurant we stumbled on through scrolling reviews. Food was solid and the seafood was excellent. Very fresh and a terrific value.
We really enjoyed the host, atmosphere and food. If it were not for the parking difficulty before the symphony, we would be regulars. Nonetheless, it is well worth the walk.
Very disappointed in my discriminatory experience. Not only was I judged based off my age and gender, the creepy old man felt the need to grab me by the arm. He's lucky I didn't call the cops right then and there. AVOID at all costs!
The food was great and everything I expected however the service was not quite what was expected. With intentions of splitting a meal over a bottle of wine, I was informed that the menu for the day was a mandatory 3 course meal. Additionally we had chose the restraunt over the appeal of no corking fees for this specific date, which was denied later in the night based on a "sign posted outside". None of these changes were ever notified when making the reservation nor confirming it. When asked about the changes we were met with quite snide remarks essentially showing us to the door. While the food excellent, I was unimpressed by the shady business and snarky wait service.
I was excited about this place based on online reviews, so I booked a Valentine’s Day reservation for my wife and me. I was disappointed—the scallops were salty, the green beans were overcooked and service was slow. It was a fixed price 3-course menu and they were busy. But there were only 2 choices for each course on the menu, so they certainly could have prepared the food better. On the plus side, both the tiramisu and flourless chocolate cake were yummy! And my wife had tasty mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. It was not worth the hundred bucks, but I would be willing to try it again since it was Valentine’s Day.
Love this restaurant! I've taken friends and family and recommend it frequently. The fish is outstanding, the atmosphere cozy, the service superb!
Charming little neighborhood gem! Great seafood and reasonably priced. Second time here and we will go again. Cozy, romantic, and quiet. Wednesday "no corkage fee" great for bringing one of your own nice bottles of wine. Best creme brûlée in the city!
Always a great time. Can’t wait to go back. Just wonderful.
Great deal for dinner. Delicious fish, good wine. They need to advertise better--too easy to get a table!
Fabulous as always, one of my most favorite Gems. It is always like going "home" to a family friends place.
In 20 years the best in the "hood"
We were heading to The Independent for a concert and looked on-line for restaurant recommendations in the area. Our group of 6 had a great time at the Alamo Square Seafood Grill! The food was great, and they had a nice wine list. Service was excellent!! Great value for the money. Everyone of us said we would definitely come back if in the area.
My hubby and I like this restaurant for Holiday Meals! They have a great chef and the wait staff has a good flow. However we come here for the great food and the ambiance of place...it is a neighborhood gem!
Amazing food, great atmosphere and people. Highly recommend!
After walking past this restaurant (before opening time) so often, I finally synchronized things to eat here. It will certainly not be the last time. The nightly special was a generous portion of blackened trout, with rice and vegetables. The dinner salad was a bowl of fresh greens, with a topping of shaved fennel. Dessert was a tasty meringue, with pomegranate seeds and a warm caramel sauce. Add in a couple of glasses of wine (1/2 price on Tuesdays), and it's a fantastic value for wonderful food. I can't wait to return, and to try a number of the choices of fish, cooked in any of a number of ways. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Why did I wait so long?!?
This a wonderful neighborhood restaurant with above average food and a reasonably priced selection of wines. If you are in the area it is a great little destination place to enjoy a well prepared meal.Thank you Alamo Square Seafood Grill.
Great food, great service and great food. Looking forward to my next visit.
I love this restaurant!
This is a wonderful neighborhood gem, but worth the drive. It is an EXCELLENT value. My friend and I chose the daily "prix fixe" which was: a lovely mixed green salad or wonderful cauliflower soup; an entree of blackened trout with a lovely beurre sauce, rice and vegetables perfectly cooked: not hard and not mushy. Dessert was what is known in English as "floating island", a custard sauce topped with toasted meringue and caramel. We each had a glass of wine. The per person total with tax and tip was $35! I look forward to recommending it in my role as an independent tour guide and concierge.
Wonderful dinners at Alamo Square; incredibly tasty entrees and salad. Corner window seat was a fun place to people watch.
Service was great. Highly recommend.
Seafood done your way, with a variety of French sauces. Excellent value: Anywhere else, the same dish would cost at least half again as much.
Dining room is small but cozy.
I've been here before and always enjoyed a great meal with nice service. Our server was untrained but fine- the FOOD was not good. Salad a zero, nothing to it with a dressing that didn't add anything. Oh, and the fish special, usually so good, was not. The dessert fell flat as well. so sorry
My meal wasn't great, but my friend's was really good and our appetizer (calamari) was also delicious. I guess I just chose wrong (I ordered the sea food pasta, it's basically just like fettuccine alfredo, which I was not expecting).
Just do yourself a favor and go here ... everything is wonderful
Dishes are reasonably priced on the menu but quality reflects the pricing . Not likely to revisit
Quiet, small neighborhood restaurant with a good selection of seafood. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and service.
ASQ is always a great choice for a nice, neighborhood dinner - great food & atmosphere. I’ve been coming here for over 15 years.
The food is authentic french food. There is a good selection of dishes. The prices are surprisingly low for San Francisco, the food is of great quality and the portions are reasonable.
