We had a very enjoyable evening at Alamo Square Seafood Grill . The service was terrific and it is a very fun atmosphere in a great part of SF. I will say that the food itself was a bit disappointing, good but nothing special - except a fabulous chocolate cake for dessert!
Understaffed so service slow. Food mediocre esp given area competition. Needs a revamp.
Nice and quiet restaurant. Food was quite good. The potato leek soup was a little salty but the texture was good. The deep fried calamari, grilled Petrale sole, and Ribeye steak was excellent. I would return for special occasion as this restaurant was quiet and quaint atmosphere.
We go there every now and then, and we love the seafood specials. Last night, we could choose from Salmon, Snapper, Trout, and Petrale Sole. You can then choose the method from grilled, sauteed, poached, or blackened. Then you get your choice of four sauces: one is green peppercorn, one is a garlic butter Maitre de, one is beurre blanc, and Bearnaise. I love this. I had the trout, sauteed, with garlic butter, and hubby had the salmon, grilled, with garlic butter. They come with rice and seasonal vegetables. These custom combos are always delicious. They have plenty of other things on the menu, including steaks and chicken, vegetarian, and more. The portions are not large, which I also love, and the prices are reasonable. We each had a glass of white wine, mine Sauvignon Blanc, his Chardonnay. Both very nice. We'll be back.
Worst meal I've had in a long time.
The Ahi carpaccio was not fully defrosted (thought I was getting fresh anyway).
Came in square pieces, looked like bologna.
Basically, everything was bad.
Great food. Noise level is low enough to have a pleasant conversation with your dining partner.
This is a cute neighborhood place that has been there for years. I finally went with some friends and really enjoyed it. This was my second visit, and the food and service were great both times. Be sure to check out the daily specials. I'm looking forward to trying the prix fixe.
Great time, great service, great restaurant!
Small, intimate, good seafood/ fish, really good prices, great personal service.
First time. Party of 3. Arrived early. Place was quiet with nice music. We liked the vibe. Good service. Food was all good. Ordered sole in white wine sauce, seafood pasta and crab cakes as well as calamari starter and 2 glasses of wine (malbec & pinot both good). Sole was tasty and swapped rice when requested. Seafood pasta was so good, I was eating that too. Calamari starter was a little oily for my taste but still good. Had dessert including chocolate cake. Very good and nice presentation. Compliments to the kitchen staff. Reasonable prices. Street parking nearby. We'll be back.
Certainly one of the best values you’ll find anywhere in San Francisco. They also have a pretty good wine list with a wide range of prices. We arrived later in the evening so the noise level was more moderate. I have been there during peak time and it is very loud. I would certainly recommend this place but would probably not go at peak times on Friday and Saturday night.
Andre and the staff are fantastic! The vibe, the scratch made cooking, all of it is top-notch. The restaurant is understated and a gem that us locals enjoy. Cheers!
My wine glass had lip prints all over the rim and the spoon I received for my fish soup had a big clunk of dried tomato paste like on it.
My fish soup was delicious but being from the East coast, their crab cakes were a big let down.
This place is a has been and needs a facelift.
Better options if you ask me.
A must stop either when visiting SF or if you are a resident in the Bay Area. Great food, great service and great value.
I have eaten here over the years 8 to 10 times at least. I have always enjoyed myself and have always liked their food and service. However we went last Saturday night and it took forever to get any kind of service. Our dinner took us over two hours we had to request everything that we got from the waiter. They were slammed and overwhelmed and I could see that they were terribly understaffed. There were only two people in the dining room and the dining room was beyond capacity. The food is always consistent and quite good and certainly is a value. The staff is extremely friendly and I still love the place. But I will not go on a Saturday night again. Also the noise level was almost unbearable. I have gotten very used to loud restaurants like most people in the city. I still don’t understand why that trend is maintained. I think diner’s should revolt but that’s another story. The din was so loud that I could barely hear the person I was with and after an hour between appetizer and main course I didn’t have the strength to yell. I would still recommend the restaurant. We brought a bottle of wine and for our troubles they did not charge us a corkage fee. I thought that was very nice of them. And again the staff is wonderful and the place really is wonderful but I hope this is an a trend. I would say go and enjoy yourself
Quality ingredients simply prepared — this place never disappoints!
Alamo Square Seafood Grill should definitely be experienced by all locals & visitors! Yes, the city is filled with lots of good restaurants....Alamo Square Seafood Grill is an Outstanding restaurant.
Just its location (hidden within beautifully, quaint Alamo Square) is a wonderful experience. Guests are warmly welcomed by Suzanne. In addition, her service performance is warm, gracious and very friendly. Working the entire room like a maestro. The Chef is in a league of their own. Preparing every one of our choices with expert, delicious skills. Starters; Escargot Grilled Ahi & Blacken Red Snapper, both fresh, moist & flakey. Paired with Chardonnay (1/2 price per glass on Wednesdays). Ending with desserts. I highly recommend you try this wonderful place.
Lived in the city for over 50 years and this was our first time at the Alamo Square Seafood Grill. Not only was the food great but the service, attitude of those who worked there was friendly, engaging and warm. I would definitely go back and can't wait to bring new friends!
Glad I found a nice neighborhood gem! The waitress was attentive, informative and the food was amazing!
Food and service were excellent. Even with reservations we were seated about 20 minutes late, but that’s to be expected in a high quality boutique restaurant.
Excellent service, decent food
Restaurant itself is 3+ stars. Neighborhood is dangerous.
Tiny neighborhood place near Alamo Square Park/Painted Ladies. Predominantly fish on the menu. Choose your fish, chose how it is prepared (poached, blackened etc.) and choose sauce. Good, not great, food. Reasonably priced. One waitress in entire place. She did a great job. Place was half full. Might have been different story if place were packed. Wine was okay and average priced.
Neighborhood is very sketchy. Our car, parked across the street and up a block and a half was broken into. I am told this is very common in this area of SF. It ended up being a very expensive dinner.
This place has all the ingredients for a great evening. They have good food, good value, good service, and a very comfortable easy place to be in. Their French onion soup was delicious a little sweeter than most but really rich with an ample amount of cheese on top. We had the shrimp risotto which came with about a dozen medium size shrimp on top of an excellent well-made risotto. We also had the blackened snapper which was well done not over cooked and had a delicious flavor. Most seafood dishes came with your choice of one of multiple sauces. The portion sizes were moderate but came with nice eldente vegetables on the side value is wonderful. We went on Wednesday night where you have no corkage on the wine that you bring. We had bought and consumed a wonderful Muskadet which went very well with our dishes. And last but not least we had a wonderful chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. We really enjoyed our time here and certainly will go back.
Overly cozy eatery in a beautiful historic district- ambience really informal nice and warm - fish was really good and tasty, great service, definitely a place to go back to for another great dinner
Excellent meal. Excellent value. Service was a little delayed but they seemed to be a little short staffed. The staff that was there busted their butts trying to cover. Overall a very enjoyable evening and meal.
Nice place but food was pretty one-dimensional. It was fine, just nothing memorable
Great service. Food is delicious and great value.
I took a business associate for dinner using open table reservations. We arrived within five minutes of our reservation, however, I received an email that we were a no show. I hate that, but despite the no show email my guest and I enjoyed , appetizer was the lump crab cakes, which were delicious. We both had Fish Entrees and Apple "something" dessert. Overall its a nice setting, wonderful for a small business meal, but they may be slightly understaffed. However, it is worth going again.
Enjoy this neighborhood restaurant very much. I have specific food needs and they are very accommodating. Good variety of food and excellent service.
We go regularly. Andre, the owner, is wonderful! Great food, ambiance.
A relaxed casual atmosphere (your neighborhood French bistro), we enjoyed the preparation and presentation of our dishes, we ordered the salmon grilled the snapper blackened and both were expertly prepared along with the House Sauv Blanc that paired nicely with our dishes. We will return in the future.
Great place to go for a relaxing meal with friends and not have too much noice. The service is slow but if you are not in a hurry you can have a wonderful meal.
They had a wonderful dinner at Alamo Square Seafood Grill. I love the simplicity of the menu and focus on fresh seafood. I had the grilled trout with white wine sauce. My partner had the seafood pasta. The chunks of seafood was plentiful and fresh. The other couple had roasted chicken and sole. Both enjoyed their meal. We also had the octopus salad which my partner raved about. She was still talking about the next day. The price was very reasonable. I would definitely recommend it.
Nourriture beaucoup trop épicé ( sur 3 plats différents) donc immangeable pour les enfants .
Our server was friendly and outgoing and WELCOMING!!!! We even had a dyattoo discussion. She rocks!!!!
The food was amazing as always. We ALWAYS hanged the escargot.
The pre fix menu is such a value. 3 courses!!!!
We love this place and always book early enough for the 10 minute walk the the theatre.
One of my favorite restaurants in SF!
Great food, great prices and an overall wonderful restaurant. A gem in the city!
I really like this restaurant, always consistent and well priced. Their prix fix specials are wonderful and the variety of wine specials they offer on various days of the week are always on point.
We had a delicious dinner here..such a pleasant server...excellent review in every way!
Restaurant délicieux ! À ne pas manquer lors d'une virée près des Painted Ladies!
