Al Zaytouna
A most disappointing experience for our first foray into Tunisian food. The presentations were lack-luster, the mezza was bland, and the main courses were less than appetizing. Not worth a second chance.
Amazing staff and such great food.
Birthday dinner
Restaurant is less than 1/2 block from the Italian Market in South Philly. Small place, clean. The service was excellent. Middle Eastern food was outstanding. Loved it!
Loved the Falafel, Lamb and Hummus. Everything was very good. Large portions and reasonable prices. Relaxing atmosphere. Great service even with several groups of diners there at the same rime. BYOB. Looking forward to going back !
Some guests thought food was too spicy and think it should have been noted on menu. I was quite pleased.
Lovely place. The food was excellent.
Excellent service, value, and quality food. Street parking was relatively easy to find. Interior decorating was simple and under stated. If you are looking for something casual, relaxing, with excellent food, this is the place.
Courteous staff, great food!
A very good discovery. I recommend to every mediterranean food fan.
We went to Al Zaytouna Sunday night for dinner. It was not crowded, but still seemed cozy. The waitress was very attentive and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the grilled lamb platter and the meat had been marinated and was so good. The grilled vegetables were beautiful and also delicious. I have lived in the neighborhood for years and don't know why I haven't gone sooner - I love mediterranean food, but I'm very glad I finally went. Like I said, the food was delicious, the service was good, and the price was right. I can't wait to go back!
Tunisian couscous was bland, dry, with tough meat and unseasoned vegetables. Lamb kebabs tough, over cooked.
Dishes sounded great, but were underwhelming in flavor and preparation. Basically, it wasn't delicious.
Great food in this small restaurant. We had a child with us and they were very accommodating.
First time here and everything was wonderful - the food, the service....keep up the great work.
Wonderful service and food!
Perfect for our party of 9 with a toddler! The food was fresh and wonderful! Everyone was attentive, helpful and super friendly. Love this place!
Great food and great service! We had a group of 11 for a birthday dinner on New Year's Eve and everything was perfect from the food to the two waitresses opening all of our wine and taking great care of everyone. They dimmed the lights and brought out a slice of cake with a lit candle (I brought a candle in case) so that we could sing happy birthday and the whole restaurant joined in! The table was also set with New Years decorations like hats, headbands, horns, etc. that we loved!
Food was good, but the service was really terrible. The waitress was not knowledgeable on the food and did not check on us the whole time to fill water or ask if we needed anything. Then at the end she told us the tip was already on the bill (I guess because we were a party of 8) And it wasn't a standard 18%, but 20%. I will not be dining in again.
The food is delicious!!
Good food! Great service and they were very accommodating for our allergies.
My friends and I love trying new restaurants. We looked up a few places and landed here. The food was fresh and amazing, the service was great, and it wasn't expensive. Our server was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu (I'm not too familiar with mediterranean dishes) which was a great help. The creme inside the cannoli (instead of the icing on top of the cake) was the owner of the restaurant was there. When we left he asked about our experience but seemed to genuinely care and seemed to be a great guy. I believe this place is also a BYOB.
Oh, I'm not normally a bug hummus guy, but the hummus here is excellent.
Delicious food in a place whose ambiance is a takeout place with a few tables.
Food wasn't too impressive. Everything was ok. Service was better.
Food was excellent and service was very good. Accommodated a large group for a birthday celebration and we're very friendly. Small kitchen so food took longer for some but that's unavoidable. Definitely will be going again and highly recommend!!
Excellent food. Always delicious! Very friendly staff.
The food was just OK. The server was pleasant. Most importantly, when I mentioned my Groupon at the beginning, the server informed us they no longer accepted them. That, more than anything, left a sour taste in mouth.
When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly server and led to a table that was set up for us because of our reservation. The food was excellently prepared and the pita bread basket was kept filled during our dinner. Attention was also paid to the water glasses which never got below half full. Ambience was much nicer than expected based on reviews. Would not hesitate to go there again when in Philly.
Good, inexpensive food. Great for a casual night out when you are looking for something a little different than the usual pub food. Also, BYOB feature was nice.
Excellent Mediterranean cuisine
Excellent food in casual atmosphere. Nice portions and quick service. A great spot for Mediterranean!
Great neighborhood restaurant with healthy food. From the outside, we expected the place to be a bit dive-y but once we went in, the decor was nice and the food was excellent and inexpensive.
Great little restaurant in the heart of Philadelphia's Little Italy. The food is fresh and well prepared.
Note: this place is BYOB and there is no place to buy wine in the area if you forget to bring it! It was pretty empty when we arrived but the service was good and the food is spectacular. Very casual, family oriented feel.
Great!
Chef/owner really cares.
Made a great grilled Bronzino.
Go there you won't be sorry.
This was best Mediterranean food I have ever had. Our appetizers were perfectly done and dinner was timed nicely after them. The kabobs were extremely tasty and perfectly cooked. Chicken shwarma was well seasoned and moistened by the adding of greens. Server was not terribly attentive but very pleasant and willing to accommodate us. We will be back again.
Good middleastern food, huge portions, casual atmosphere. Most people take out, so if you eat in, it's quiet and you can hear everyone talk. We willbe back!
The great ambience that kept you in a great chill zone. The staff made you feel like a part of their family. The food was well-seasoned and plentiful. Interesting menu that did not disappoint.
We were here for a very early Sunday dinner and would definitely come back again - the food was delicious, the pita was warm and it was a BYOB.
Food was typical Middle Eastern & Mediterranean cuisine. The price was great and was BYOB. We sat outside which was very nice for a summer evening. A very casual restaurant.
