Great list of appetizer and entree specials. On first glance the menu appears limited, but then they recite a list of specials. It is a cozy, well established restaurant with a kitchen that is confident and skilled. Vert attentive wait staff!
Great food a quick walk from DuPont Circle.
I was in DC for a convention and the hotel had a list of restaurants and this was one of them. We made reservations for 6:30 and were seated right away when we arrived. Service was friendly and prompt. There were several fish dishes that were on the specials for the day menu. I asked which he would recommend and I chose that for my entree. The entree arrived in a timely manner no problem there. However, it was bland no taste at all. I was very disappointed with his recommendation. He described the fish much tastier than it was. When he recommended the dessert special I was glad I chose something different because my husband ordered the special dessert and it wasn't that good.
Wonderful as always
Luigi brings the authenticity of a cozy restaurant in Italy to DC. From the finnochio salad to the homemade amaro and everything in between it was a delight. The sea bream was astonishingly good. The pasta e fagioli soup is not to be missed. The homemade sambucca was the best I've every tasted. Si mangia benissimo qua!
Sat in the booth. Pastas, fish and veal scallopini were amazing. Bottle of Cignale was excellent. Luis was top-notch server.
I travel the world and have eaten in many fantastic restaurants. This is the best of the best, anywhere in the world. It is a must visit when you are in Washington DC.
Cant beat the grilled octopus and truffled risotto! Yum. Very good waitstaff that seemed to work as a team. Nice!
Had a lovely and delicious dinner. Service was excellent with everyone welcoming us and making us feel that they were happy we were there. Waiters took pride in their service.
Looking forward to a return visit.
Service was awful and the hostess and waiter both had attitudes. They were not customer focused. The menu was not what was shown online and otherwise was disappointing. Would never go back!!
Excellent Italian food - great value for the dollar - wonderful date night or couples' night out
Great dining experience with friends. The server recommended an appetizer sampler plate for each of us which had a small portion of five appetizers for each in our party of four to start with. We each had a different pasta course - highly recommend the gnocchi as well as the special of linguini with shaved black truffles. Entrees we're all tastey - the braised short ribs were extra tender; grilled octopus also wonderful. Extensive wine list. The chocolate gelato was average, but the Tiramisu was scrumptious. The service was attentive and professional. Only down side was the tables are packed in tight, so our party (all average-sized adults) was continuously being bumped by the customers on both sides of our table.
Food was delicious, but a bit overpriced for standard fare.
One of the best restaurants in the area. Great food. Great service.
Al Tiramisu brings out the best in you. My nephew played at the Kennedy Center and then we all converged on AT for dinner. He described it as the "best day of my life". My sister, who generally will not drink more than a half a glass of wine, shared a lovely bottle with me from the wine list. My mother, who remembers very little anymore, still remembers AT. I loved what I ate, but really loved how we all felt after the great experience.
The food was delicious. The pasta alone was a little small for dinner. Had we known the portion size we would have ordered a salad or appetizer, but as such we had room for dessert. Dessert was divine. Highly recommend.
After more than 15 years, I still just love it. Creative Italian food with a wonderful wine list
After 12-plus years of dining pleasure, I am always afraid that a return trip will mean that the magic is gone and that the restaurant has started to go downhill, as so many DC hot spots do. I can safely say, however, that Al Tiramisu remains absolutely magical. The food, the service, the entire experience is just absolutely divine and leaves the diner wanting more before they are even out the door. Thank you Al Tiramisu for demonstrating that it is possible to be at your pinnacle for more than a decade!
We went there for a delayed Valentine’s Day dinner. The waiter was very attentive and patient as we asked him questions about the menu. Also the specials were just as good as what was the menu. The best thing we had was the angel haired pasta with the shaved black truffle.
A great find in Washington DC. Recommended by hotel concierge.
Great food, great service. Multiple options to choose from, will need to go back numerous time to try more. Highly recommend.
I say it every time, but a great surprise and some of the best - if not the best - Italian food in the city. Always great service with great wine list. Thought the fish was slightly underseasoned tonight but pastas and appetizers were amazing.
Great! great great great!
Smartly-flavored food and fantastic service from our new friend Salvatore. A cozy vibe doesn't compromise the tasteful and elegant decor. We thought we'd found a hidden gem... until we saw photographs of John Kerry, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and others with the chef.
Exceptional service and delightful food! The mushrooms with goat cheese was delicious, the gnocchi melted in my mouth, the wine was beautifully paired. My husband had the lobster linguini in a light cherry tomato sauce, the perfectly prepared lobster made this dish irresistible. It was an excellent experience!
We had a lovely pre valentines dinner with excellent pasta Fish. And my favorite dessert ricotta cheesecake it was all excellent.
One of our favorite DC restaurants and go to whenever we are looking for a great Italian meal.
Perhaps a secret/underdog, but still the best Italian in the city.
What a great find! We are staying in DC and our hotel recommended this restaurant. Food was exceptional, staff was so friendly and our waiter, Salvatore was top notch, professional and fantastic.
Great food, ambience and service. Difficult to find - Poor signage
Had a business dinner in DC, and are so glad I chose Al Tiramisu. The wine list had so many excellent choices and the waiter guided us to a great Barolo. We both had the lobster fettuccini which included lots of lobster. Everything was delicious, but it is definitely old-school, simple ingredient, Italian food. Definitely will return!
The food and service were both spectacular. Highly recommend.
Best Italian in the city. Have tried them all and this restaurant does not get full recognition it deserves. Pastas amazing and both fish and meats outstanding. Service by Benjamino was excellent and Chef Luigi couldn’t have been more gracious. Happy New Year.
Very good authentic upscale Italian with excellent service. Cozy ambience.
We dine at Al Tiramisu several times a year. In our opinion it is far and away the best Italian restaurant in the DC area. The food is excellent, and the ambiance is cozy.
Wonderful! Exceptional service and delicious food. Would come again any time we're in town.
Second time here, the food is great, service is excellent. Great drinks at the bar too......
We traveled to Washington for the arts and theater; we will return to visit Al Tiramisu. Oh, my, what can be said; for us a meal is based on food, wine and service. Missing any one can end a meal, Al Tiramisu excelled at all. We love Italian food and here it was outstanding. We visited three times on our trip, one evening we mentioned a food we love that wasn't on the menu. The next evening as we started our dinners, a small portion was brought out for us to enjoy with our meals, and it was outstanding. We come from New England so for us seafood (fish) is something to have fresh, normally at a seafood restaurant. Al Tiramisu just set a new standard; one evening we both had the fresh sole. It was as good as the fresh Dover sole in England fresh from the boat. The wines that were suggested to pair with the food were all perfect, including a couple of new wines for us. They are not only knowledgeable of their wines, but have the selection to match your needs (and price). Service was exactly as we like it; professional but relaxed, everyone worked as a team so we had the opportunity to meet much of the staff and they were all wonderful. I must say that when we ordered a special as a primi which was perfect homemade pasta with a little oil and reggiano, then so perfectly enhanced with fresh truffles, we were surprised when the chef (Luigi Diotaiuti) came to our table to discuss the food and wine and personally add the truffles. When we travel we normally don't return to a restaurant on the same trip so that we can try new places and then choose the best. Three of our four nights were spent enjoying Al Tiramisu and we will return to Washington to dine with them, and then plan the rest of the trip. We would like to thank the concierge Leire of our hotel (lovely heritage hotel across from the White House), who recommended this gem. Wonderful, lovely, a perfect way to spend an evening.
