Al Porto Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
Bottom line: If your in Vancouver for just a few days eat elsewhere.
I'm puzzled by the high marks on Open Table for this restaurant. The food here is average, predictable, nothing special, for my palate it rates 3 stars. There a plenty of other places in the Gas Town area that should be tried first.e
We ate here twice during our stay in Vancouver...a mid-week lunch and a Saturday dinner.
Both times the food and service were excellent. Seafood was especially well prepared.
Lunch was a relaxed, quiet meal. Saturday was a full house. Because we rejected a rather oddly positioned two-top we ended up next to a table full of young people celebrating their obviously good lives. The fact that the Ristorante was full and everyone was enjoying themselves is a tribute to the quality and value found there.
On our next visit to Vancouver we will again stay in Gastown and dine at Al Porto, though maybe not on a weekend evening,
Excellent food and service. Our waiter John was attentive and provided great service. We are in town before a cruise and had dinner here with two other couples. Everyone was very happy with their food; all six of us had a different meal. My friend Bob ordered the Osso Buca and said it was the best he ever had. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Our reservation was at 6:30. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. The restaurant was not busy and so our waiter had the time to provide good service. The menu offered a good selection and our appetizer and meal was served promptly.
My wife had pasta and I had the tuna special. Both meals were prepared exquisitely. It was a lovely dinner and I would return.
A Vancouver gem for over 35 years. A favouite place to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. Real great value over Dine-Out Vancouver.
Food is excellent, service exquisite and unobtrusive. Wonderful wine list with great recommendations from waitstaff.
My absolute favourite place to go!
I wanted to thank the staff at Al Porto for truly making my 40th birthday really special. We had a few cancellations then additions and the staff took everything in stride. The food was delicious and all my friends mentioned how much fun they had. Huge thank you to the kitchen and the wait staff. A truly special evening.
We had a party of 10 at your establishment on Saturday and we were all vey pleased with our dinner. We were seated promptly upon arrival. Our waiter asked if we had a special occasion to attend that evening to make sure he had us out in time to make our engagement. All in all a fabulous dinner and will definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful evening
First time going here. Made reservations for 6pm and got in early. They took our coats right when we got in. Server came right away and was very helpful in recommending food options as I'm a vegetarian. The portion sizes for the appies and entrées were great. We got the cannelloni and the pesto pomodoro. Both were very fresh and very tasty. I would definitely come back here again
The food was delicious (a little on the smaller portion size though). Our server was absolutely terrible though. He was not personable, never asked us how our meals were, we barely saw him throughout our evening. I would have rated this restaurant higher but it was the service that really brought it down.
Really nice seafood and very generous portions for a fine dining-type place. Feeling a bit dated, restrooms could use remodeling and maybe an overall freshening up of decor and so forth to stay competitive in the Vancouver food scene, but the food was great.
we were greeted right away! that's always a plus. seated right away and our server came right away to offer us water/beverages. he was very friendly and hilarious, i like that the most. he made the entire evening entertaining.
great experience would definitely dine there again!
The ambience is great - quite romantic and has the rustic, Italian charm. However the food was subpar. I had the linguine vongole and it was very dry and barely had any clams in it. I had the chocolate ganache cake for dessert and it had no flavour whatsoever. The waiter paid no attention to us at all. We waited 30 minutes to get his attention to order, and then we waited 40 minutes to pay after he brought us the bill. He never checked in with us after we got our food.
I'm not sure if I'll be back, as there are other great Italian restaurants in Vancouver.
