Al Porto Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
The food is absolutely excellent. The pasta is delicious, gerat place. However I think something has to be done regarding the time it takes the order to be served. After our salads were served, it took 45-50 minutes to get served with the main course, in this case, the pasta. That´s too much: by that time I had already lost my appetite and consequently I didn´t enjoyed the fabulous food as it should be.
The food was delightful, the ambiance was not. This is a great potentially, romantic and cozy space but the child friendly policy is just wrong and very disrespectful to patrons that may be celebrating a birthday, anniversary or an otherwise romantic evening out.
We had our family Christmas Eve dinner at Al Porto and we couldn't have been better taken care of. The food and wine were excellent and the service was friendly and professional. We had a large group, yet everything went seamlessly.
Restaurant meals on holidays can be tricky, mostly because there's a chunk of the staff who would really rather be home. We've eaten at restaurants all over the US on both Christmas and Christmas Eve, and had service that we had to accept as the best possible under the circumstances. Well, if that is Al Porto's service on a holiday, their regular service must be outstanding.
I would definitely recommend this spot!!
It took over 40 minutes to get food for our table of 10. I wasn't too happy about the wait and when the food finally arrived I wasn't too thrilled with the food. The pasta was not al denté, but the meatballs saved the dish. I came to this restaurant years ago and it seems like the quality has gone down.
We very much enjoyed our evening at Al Porto. It is located in the heart of Gastown and oozes atmosphere. The service was great, and the cuisine seemed really authentic. We tried several dishes, including cioppino, scaloppine, and risotto, and all were excellent. The wine list was good, and complemented the menu. All in all, a good find for us. We hope to be back!
Great service! We got the pizza bread appetizer, it was delicious! The waiter gave it to us free since it was a little overdone, we didnt even notice so it was a nice surprise when the waiter told us without us even saying anything. That is honest and great service!
We had dinner for 4 on Nov. 11. We had our wedding party at Al Porto a few years ago and thought it would be nice to return for some good pasta or seafood. We weren't disappointed. We felt welcome as soon as we arrived. The first thing you noticed upon entering is the spaciousness and the intimate, private areas for dinning. No crowded tables here, yet there is a feeling of coziness. Since we were a bit early than our 630pm reservation, our waiter suggested we enjoy the specials (if you dine before 630 you can save on the combinations dinners). A great deal!
And did I mention that they have Happy Hour drinks up until 630?
We each had the 630 special: appetizer and main course. Nochi is a favorite in my family, as is spaghetti with meat balls in marinara sauce. Our guests had the catch of the day (halibut) and scallops with prawns. All plates were cleaned and enjoyed immensely.
We were not rushed. Our waiter, John, knew when to come and kept us supplied with everything we needed.
And then a big surprise: a dessert sampling sent by the manager as he remembered our wedding reception from 3 years ago! If I had to have seconds on the dessert it would have been the lemon pie with meringue - so delicious!
We had a good time at Al Porto. It's a great location for groups, staff office parties, weddings, or small groups. They have a number of private rooms, some with a view of the Vancouver Harbour. Note: the main entrance is down a bit of a steep walkway and then steps down, however there is wheelchair access from Water street (look for the awning with 321 on it). They will take good care of you. Thank you for a great evening!
Visited Al Porto for the first time for a birthday and was pleasantly surprised by the whole dining experience! From the moment we walked through the door, we were warmly greeted and promptly shown our table. Our waiter, Fabio, was super friendly and gave us fabulous suggestions for food and for drinks. The members in our party ordered the Early Dinner Special that included a main and soup/salad, with a mains of a 16 oz. bone in rib steak, rack of lamb, seafood risotto, and linguine pescatore, all of which we found absolutely delicious! A super lovely, authentic Italian dining experience that I would definitely go back for!
We were pleased with the restaurant; we had some difficulty finding it because there is an upper and lower level. We ended up at the upper level ( street level) which is closed in the evening. Fortunately we found the lower level and had an enjoyable experience.
It has been a long time since I was last in Al Porto. I had forgotten all about the restaurant but we wanted somewhere in Gastown to have lunch with friends and Al Porto came up in a Google search. Really glad we went there. Food was great. Service was great. We will go back again in the near future.
I know this restaurant has been around for decades because I was there in the 80s. I’m not sure why I never went back. I walk by it all the time and think I should go in so I finally did. For some reason I didn’t love that it’s in the basement but once you’re down there by the windows it’s really quite nice. The service was extremely attentive. I had a Caesar salad which was very good and a chicken breast wrapped in prosciutto which was also very good. Overall a very nice experience and I’ll definitely go back.
I am hoping that this was an off night for them in the kitchen. The place was nicely decorated, the drinks were great, and our server was amazing. The appetizer and salads were tasty. Unfortunately, when we got our pasta entrees , not so much. They were very bland, although the pasta was cooked perfectly. I would be willing to give them another try, but based on our one visit I can't recommend it.
After we found an alternative entrace to the elevator that was not working everything was great. Good food, service and pricing. We were on cacation and this was the best meal of'our trip. The location, in Gas Town, was interesting and we enjoyed walking around the local area. I recommend the restaurant. My wife had the Veal and Imhad the Spaghetti Bolegnese and both were excellent as was the Tiramisou? When in Vancouver, i recommend this restaurant.
