Al Fresco Italian Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The whole thing was wonderful. Food, people, place, all of it. Regulars were arriving every minute and hugs we're being passed out like old Friends. Loved it. Not shy on the wine either. Next time we go in we won't hugs too. I'm from Hawaii and hugs all around. Will definitely go back to this lovely place.
It was a terrific balance of fancy and casual. Prices and portions are very fair. The atmosphere feels very fancy yet the small setting feels comfortable. Whether you are dressed down and enjoying a meal by yourself or on a romantic date and dressed nicely, it feels right. The staff was extremely pleasant and gluten free options were not an issue. My girlfriend and I were very pleased with our experience.
We have been there before and the food was better and the service much better. Once the waitress FINALLY came to greet us (20 minutes after we were seated with menus) my husband had to ask what the specials were and fir bread fur the table. Both these things are usually givens at this restaurant. The ravioli alla vodka portion is smaller than it was when we started going there. On off putting experience at a restaurant we used to regard as reliable.
Everything was great. I would highly recommend going here for any and all occasions. Food is outstanding and service is exceptional. Price is fair for the experience. I'd pick this place over just about any other for a special occasion. Again, the food was great but our waiter made it over the top. My new favorite spot.
We were just arriving to drop my son off for freshman year at Hampton University. We were in the mood for food and this Italian restaurant popped up. We had mixed feelings about Italian or Mexican, but Italian won out. When we walked in the ambiance was nice and we were welcomed in like family. The waiter, an older gentleman, was warm and friendly and waited on us like family. The food was great as was the service. I would definitely recommend and we will likely return on another trip.
Excellent food, but pricey. Excellent service. Cheap salad, too much vinegar in salad. food has small portion. Smoking allowed right entrance door, not good for non-smoking customers. No designated handicap parking in front restaurant (not good). Because of those factors, I would't rush back.
Delicious! The Lobster Ravioli was wonderful, perfectly seasoned with a rich creamy sauce and shrimp atop. Salad was a bit over dressed, leaning toward soupy, but very tasty. The Tiramisu was a delight for the mouth; accompanied by coffee it was the perfect finish. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful birthday dinner at Al Fresco Saturday evening. We had a nice round table in the corner which allowed for some privacy. We started with the calamari appetizer. 3 of us had the Scallop Al Fresco special which was overflowing with scallops, shrimp, lobster and clams. The portions were very generous. The bread and salads were all fresh and delicious. The tiramisu they brought out for the birthday boy was delicious! We were very pleased with our evening!
We went for a pre-theatre dinner. The restaurant is in a strip-mall; however, the lack of ambiance outside is made up for by the lovely decor and ambiance inside. Service was prompt and attentive. Food was good but not to-die-for. I had a veal marsala and my husband had a pasta-seafood dish. Portions were good but could have been a little more; e.g. my veal piccata included linguini but no vegetables. Meal included salad -- house salad with no choice of dressing -- and bread sticks. Again, good, but nothing special. The pistachio cheesecake for dessert was very good. My husband ordered the Bomba special but it was not available and settled for the chocolate cake, which was good but not what he was in the mood for.
We were looking for real Italian food& wine& thanks to the waiterMaurizo he paired the perfect wine to the meal we selected! Only thing I would change would be to introduce fresh seasonal food into menue recipes& advertise this you would bring more real Italians and people searching for this type of food. Its hard to find real authentic Italian food in this area but your restaurant is a shining star! Grazie mille Ronaldo
Great service, excellent authentic Italian food. We attended for our afternoon date day, my wife loved the ambience, we were casually dressed and comfortably seated. We have a great authentic Italian restaurant back home in Ohio, and this "mom and pop" place is a close tie.
Recommend this place for all who love Italian food!
I scheduled my reservation a week in advance and told them it was my 2nd anniversary. Told them she loves chocolate desserts. When he were escorted to our table we saw candles lit and flowers in a vase on the table. The restaurant is beautiful and the servers were extremely friendly and attentive. I absolutely loved the food as well. I got lobster ravioli and my wife got the lasagna. Afterwards the restaurant owner came to our table to wish us happy anniversary and told us dessert was on him tonight for our special day. We couldn't stop smiling. It was an amazing experience and I absolutely loved it. This restaurant is awesome. They went above and beyond to make sure my wife and I had a great night.
Consistently the perfect place for extraordinary food and service. Our 49th wedding anniversary celebration was exceptional. Just my wife and I. No one in Al Fresco knew. But you'd have thought they'd planned the whole experience. Our waitress was personable, attentive and engaging. And our dinner was fantastic. They were busy with a wedding rehearsal dinner, several prom night groups, etc. But our reservations, seating and server made us feel like we were the only ones there. It was like we could enjoy everyone else's special event, vicariously, and ours too. Best place in Hampton Roads, and for sure Newport News, for fine dining at a value added price. Well worth our 25-mile trip. Will always be our go-to place for the best food, service and special occasions. Lunch is great there too.
The evening was very enjoyable. The server was very knowledgeable in what wine to suggest. The food was very good as well. We had the chicken fettuccine and chicken parmigiana. I love this place over the usual commercial Italian place because you can tell the meals are made from scratch and fresh.
