A real gem. We drive an hour to eat there. Food is consistently excellent and you can have a conversation easily.
Great family experience with an awesome Tuesday Wine Bottle deal, attentive service and wonderful food that pulled from the fresh seafood in the area.
Great food and great service, as always.
I’ve never had anything bad at Al Fresco. My Birthday dinner was good. Staff was friendly and attentive. Dining room was clean. The food was good, but I remember it being great. I was disappointed when my fiancé & friends said their meal was ‘OK’. I felt really bad when my fiancé paid the bill for a meal that no one seemed to love.
My favorite date night venue. Best Italian food anywhere.
Simply delicious! My husband had Fettuccine Alfredo & I had Veal. Can't wait to go back.
Hi there, I love, love, love this place but my food was a bit salty for me. I believe the appetizer, the ravioli. My lemon cello martini was fantastic and so was my Vodka ravioli, again, just a bit on the salty side.
Otherwise it was a great meal!
Another great evening was glad to get there given the terrible weather, but it was a great nite to spend my Birthday with friends and Ronnie and his wife were the great hosts they always are.. Other guests appeared to enjoy themselves as well service was great,,

Another wonderful evening at Al Fresco. Victoria, as usual, was our server and provided perfect service, never rushing us, even though we were the last ones in the restaurant. The food was excellent - salmon in a vodka sauce and veal in a marsala sauce. And on top of that, they have Albarino back in stock! Thanks for another perfect Thursday evening.
And, Happy Birthday, Ella!
Dinner was excellent and staff was efficient and courteous. The restaurant adhered to all guidelines for virus protection with ample distancing between diners.
I just love the place. Unpretentious atmosphere. Good food. Always enough to take home for leftovers.
We split a lasagna and it was only room temperature.
Could have been much hotter.
Waiter forgot our calamari app.
Then went back to kitchen for it.
The calamari was delicious.
We like this restaurant a lot.
It was not on point last night though.
Food as always was excellent! Service and ambiance great. This is a neighborhood gem.
Al Fresco is an excellent restaurant. The service and quality of the food has always been very good. I recommend this restaurant highly.
This is one of our favorite restaurants!!
The food is always superb, the decor is the perfect look for a fine dining experience, and the service is efficient and very friendly!
We highly recommend Al Fresco!
The interior was very elegant but the atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. The food was excellent and service was wonderful. I would highly recommend Al Fresco.
Victoria and the entire staff were wonderful as usual. The salmon and veal specials were delicious. The only thing to make it more perfect would be if the wine distributor could deliver Albarino again, See you next Thursday
We were in Newport News and tried Al Fresco. We thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the linguine and clams and my husband had Veal Marsala with shrimp. Both were terrific. Great waiter and service. We'll be back.
Don’t understand why we were given the table closest to the restroom door but we were.
The restaurant was only about 1/3 capacity. There were plenty of much better tables and booths available.
Also right near us was the noisy bar blender.
Food was great as always.
In Newport News one night, looking for a nice place to eat. We saw on Open Table and saw Al Fresco. A modest restaurant in a strip mall. When we went inside it was very busy. We waited a bit more than usual to be seated and served, but the staff was apologetic. It was well worth the wait. I would have waited an hour If I'd known how great the food would be! True Italian! Fresh, flavorful, delicious. Do yourself a favor, order the Tiramisu; it is the best you'll ever taste.
My husband and I recently moved to Newport News, and were looking for ana amazing Italian restaurant to replace our favorite from Kansas City, Mo. I friend suggested Al Fresco, and we are so glad we went, it will definitely be a favorite of ours. The Prince Albert Mussels were perfectly cooked, and the savory sauce was unbelievable to dip the house bread in. My husband had the Vitello del Bosco, and said it was one of the best veal dishes he had ever had. I had the Gambrri alla Napolitano, and substituted broccoli for pasta, it was a perfect combination of texture, and the savory broth had a balanced seafood finish. I had a dirty vodka martini, one of the best I have had since moving here. This restaurant is a keeper. The noise volume is perfect for a romantic date, or dinner with friends.
This was our first visit to Al Fresco and we were pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed the appetizer of Melanzane Rollatini. And our entrees were also delicious, Tortellini Baronessa and Lobster Ravioli. It was very busy on a Friday night, which is a good sign. The service was attentive and courteous. And we’re eager to return to Al Fresco.
Perfect place for first date
We went to Al Fresco on a quiet Monday night, 3 old friends, catching up. Two of the 3 of us have allergy issues, and the restaurant was very accommodating. Salad and bread are served first, both fresh and delicious. Two of us had shrimp in a light white wine sauce and the third had spaghetti and meatballs. Everyone was very happy with her dish. We sat and talked and no one felt rushed. The restaurant gave me a complimentary tiramisu for my birthday, which was an added treat. The food was delicious in a lovely atmosphere and a great time was had by all!
My birthday dinner with the fam, great time!
We have made this place one of our favorites for years! Never disappointed!
Perfect Valentines spot!
Service was very slow. We had reservations at 6 and we didn’t get our food until 7:30. Bread was stale and obviously store bought. Salads were basic and boring. Very heavily sauced entrees. Pasta was overcooked. Would expect an Italian restaurant to nail the pasta.
Was a great visit as always they were very busy great for them.. And all the guests around us appeared to enjoy themselves.. We did!! Deb and Bill Schmidt, Wmsburg
I'm glad I made a reservation right after I booked our tickets for Menopause the Musical. We had 7 and everyone was delighted with what they ordered. The service was terrific considering you were overwhelmed with table after table filled with women going to the show.
You are perfectly located and convenient to Ferguson Center.
Valentine’s Day date with the wife.
I have been to Al Fresco several times and it is always good. The marinara sauce is the best.
There was a special menu for Valentine’s Day and the menu was lacking Vegetarian options. When we inquired if they could fix a vegetarian plate, we were told no because the featured items for the night were semi prepared. Had we known this, we would not have dined at this establishment. Going mg forward, the establishment should make patrons aware of this on Open Table. It was a special occasion, that didn’t seem special, with only being able to eat a salad.
The food and service is always good. Good choice of entree's and wine.
Normally a great place to eat. On this occasion the restaurant was full of people going to Ferguson Center show. Took over 60 minutes for my wife and I to get served.
Usually get Consistent service but the food took an hour to come out and we were rushed getting to our show. It appeared to be a problem in the kitchen
Overall, a nice experience. The food was very good except the chicken in the chicken salad was cooked too much. The lasagna was excellent.
Great place to eat Italian food. Great place for a celebration of business meeting
Always an amazing experience every time we visit Al Fresco. My personal favorite local Italian restaurant!
We went for restaurant week although we have been to Al Fresco many times before. The food was not as well done or tasty as usual. It was clear that this was "different" than on a regular night. I had ordered the salmon, which I have had on previous visits, and although the salmon was cooked perfectly the sauce was just fair and the presentation not as lovely as usual. If I hadn't eaten there many times over so very many years, it would not have drawn me back.
