I celebrated my best friend's birthday at Al Dente on Thursday night. The food was fantastic, service was friendly, and the restaurant had a great feel to it. The homemade noodles are definitely worth the extra few dollars! I would recommend Al Dente to anyone looking for authentic Italian cuisine. Looking forward to dining again here soon!
Food was fantastic. Great portion size for the price. The waitress was great as well. Didn’t have to wait long for the food either.
We walked in and were rudely greeted by the woman who seemed to be the hostess. The place was super dark, smelled like smoke and the bread was rock solid and cold. Our meals were fine. I liked the seafood risotto, but the overall experience was not great. It is also pretty pricey. Not a very special anniversary dinner for us.
Awesome food. Great wine.
Always a fantastic meal - highly recommend the chicken veggie soup with tortellini to start. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu and the pasta is fresh and the prices are reasonable. Definitely get a reservation as they fill up quickly.
We found this on Open Table as we were looking for an Italian lunch near the Old North Church on our last day in Boston. Arrived to a mostly empty restaurant, but it filled up quickly while we were there so popular place to eat. I was disappointed that there were no lunch specials (portions) so could only order a main to avoid overeating or to-go food since it was our last day in town. I drank water and had Veal Marsala and chose Farfalle (bowtie) pasta. Other half had Diet Coke and Chicken Cacciatore. Food was good, service was great, and price was just slightly higher than expected, even for touristy area. Again, they need lunch portions (and prices) so one can order more varieties. Wish they were in the idine program-may return but there are so many good Italian restaurants close by!
Last time at this restaurant about 2 years ago. It was much better. Had reservation for 6:30 PM, however that seemed to have no meaning as we waited to 7:00 PM to be seated. Service was fine. Staff friendly. My wife's veal and shrimp was fine. Lacking some flavor and mostly pasta and not much on the shrimp. My Veal Parm was overdone and dry. Not much flavor. Per glass wine prices on the high side for producers names. Not a memorable visit or experience this time. Most likely will not be back as their are many more better restaurants in the area.
Al Dente made for a great place to bring my gf on a date for Valentine's day. The food was excellent, reasonably priced, and our server Annessa was so nice!
I love this place. I come here probably one per month. Staff makes you feel like family, especially Angela.. We try to request her as often as we can! Love this place. Food is fantastic.
We went here on Valentine’s Day and it was the epitome of a tourist trap. They put up dividers between tables meant to seat 4 people since only couples were dining on Valentine’s Day. It was so tacky. The tables are so close together it creates for a very unromantic setting. Regret going here.
Some of the best Italian food I've ever had. Their lobster ravioli is probably the best in Boston.
Highly recommend! This bustling, cozy, authentic restaurant is our favorite stop when we're in Boston! The best Milanese in the North End and the chicken parmesan and gnocci are also amazing! It's crowded, loud, high energy and a meal that will be exactly what you hoped for when you think of authentic Italian food. Must go!
It was just great portions ,quality ,service and Value !!!
Nothing special here. Staff not very friendly. Not worth time or money go somewhere else to experience much better North end food! Pasta was not even homemade.
The food wasn’t that good compared to all the restaurants in North End. Wouldn’t recommend.
The food is so amazing that this was our second time coming here for our anniversary! I HIGHLY recommend the carbonara, and the vodka sauce is delicious...will definitely be back.
We made reservations so were seated very quickly upon arriving. I'm a vegetarian, so looking at the menu, I was happy to see quite a few vegetarian options for me. I also happened to notice that they offer gluten-free options for an additional fee. We were given bread and butter while we looked over the meal, which was tasty. The bread was cold and hard, which surprised my husband, but did not stop him from eating a ton of it.
We decided on our meals and placed our orders. To our surprise, our food was being served to us no more than 15 minutes later (possibly sooner). I ordered the pesto pasta made with the thick, homemade noodles. It was beyond delicious with the rich, creamy pesto sauce. The dish was extremely filling and the portions are generous so I ended up taking at least half of it home. My husband ordered the veal marsala, which he had never had before. He was slightly disappointed, mainly because he didn't know exactly what he was ordering. He did end up completely clearing his plate at the restaurant, so he didn't dislike his meal. Would he order veal marsala again? Probably not, but this had nothing to do with Al Dente. Once we were finished with our meals, the waitress brought us our check promptly and we took care of the bill quickly. We were in and out of the restaurant probably in the matter of an hour.
Overall, we enjoyed the food and the authentic Italian feel of the restaurant. The tables are placed pretty close together, which gives it an intimate feeling, but can also get pretty loud. We went on a Friday night around 7:30 PM, which is a very busy time for any restaurant. That being said, it was very impressive with how quickly we received our food. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and will certainly return for another delicious Italian meal in the future.
Stayed in the financial district a few days. So many Italian places to choose from. This place was quaint and adorable. I loved the food! The staff was very friendly as well.
Al Dente is my favorite restaurant in Boston's North End. The Italian food is the best, especially the lasagna. Dining area is rather small, which is why weekend nights have a small line outside. The wait staff are very personable and friendly.
Had a great dinner here! The service was very quick and menu had a big selection of food that all sounded fantastic. We had the lobster ravioli and chicken cacciatore and they were both great! Would definitely go back or recommend!
Love this restaurant - staff is great and food is authentic!
Cramped room to start with. Food was excellent and good pricing. NO COFFEE, Ice Tea refills are charged and they do NOT make any SPAGHETTI. They look hard and want you out quickly. Again the food is excellent but I would NOT recommend this place if you are looking for a nice quiet meal.
The best dishes in the North End of Boston. Atmosphere is perfect and the prices are great
Amazing place! Cute place with great food and service!
Four dishes. Two were very good. Two average at best. Appetizer of calamari was rubbery...
Eggplant Parmesan for my fiancé and Lobster Ravioli for me, both were superb and the wine pour was quite generous from a very good list.
Incredibly impressed with Al Dente! Just moved to Boston a few months ago and my family was visiting for the weekend so I wanted to find an authentic North End dining experience. Al Dente was the perfect spot and our server Lisa made it even more enjoyable.
Can't wait to come back!
Food is awesome as is the staff. They both keep us coming back and it's become our regular north end destination! You should always make a reservation as it's small and usually aren't seated without one
Fantastic dinner and service. Eggplant Parmesan Devine, niochi cloud like. My husband equally liked his lasagna and the meatball was Soo good that we ordered extra to go.
Great experience. Our server was the best. Great portion sizes too! Should probably share plates because you get a lot for your money.
Joanne our waitress was so much fun and personable! From her to Michael who sat us to one of the other ladies that came over to the table to chat had us laughing from the time we sat down to the time we left.
AMAZING fresh pasta!! This was exactly what I was hoping for when I scheduled date night at the North End. As per everyone's recommendation, we tried the pumpkin ravioli. It was just as good, if not better, than what I read about it - sweet and savory, light and creamy, rich and complex! I am dreaming about it now... I will definitely be back again, especially since it's so easy to book reservations!
Good food and service, we had a group of 8.
Excellent authentic, feels like grammas kitchen! Down to earth staff and great food! Easy walk from Garden area!
I always ask for Joanna to be my waitress
I just love her
A nice and cozy restaurant in the heart of the North End district in Boston, the portions are huge, the food is delicious, the service is great and there are lots of choices. Would definitely recommend!
It’s your average, if not below average north end restaurant. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here. Huge portions is a one positive aspect about this restaurant.
My husband and I have been going here for years and never been disappointed! Love it here!
Great time! Awesome food and service!
Long time Al Dente fan, they continue to not disappoint ! Everything was very good with outstanding service provided by Annette
