Nice place to have quiet and well prepared meal served by a wonderful staff.
Our second visit to Al Dente was just as good as our first. This is the place you go when you want delicious traditional Italian dishes without pretension. Portions are large and perfect for sharing. The pasta is made in-house and is cooked perfectly. The restaurant is small and intimate, and the wait staff are pros who genuinely seem to want you to enjoy their food. And you will.
Great food and great friendly service. They never disappoint.
Great food and a great value. We were in Boston for a family vacation and this was a fun and perfect place to eat Italian in the North End.
We were in Boston for 4 nights and loved the food so much we went back a second time before leaving. Among the best Italian food I've ever had.
First time at Al Dente. Won’t be the last. Was with some friends before going to see P!nk. We shared three appetizers and two entrees, since we wanted to try everything on the menu. Joanne was our server and was the best!!!
Food was amazing, service was great. Very nice causal dining
The ambiance, the food, the neighborhood...all great! This will definitely be a recommendation to all my friends who visit Boston.
The food was a fantastic value - very delicious and generous portions. I had the Gnocchi al Dente and it was the perfect texture. It was so good, I kept eating one more, then one more. One person got the eggplant roll-ups that were quite good and filling. The chicken parmesan also was a winner. We appreciate the staff for being so prompt with the orders and being patient when 2 of us were stuck in traffic. We are definitely coming back.
I had such an amazing experience. Thank you so much.
Absolutely lovely!
Amazing food, service & atmosphere! Definitely worth the drive if you come from a distance.
Cozy and authentic Italian restaurant in Boston's historic North End. Portions are more than generous and food always delicious. A family favorite!
We have dined here several times. It is a favorite but this time there were fruit flies all around us. Maybe the red wine attracts them. Only one of the 4 of us was having red wine. I was waving a coupon to keep them off my dinner. We saw other tables waving them off too. And we saw them on three walls from where we sat. Very unfortunate. I was completely grossed out by the time we left. We passed on dessert and went to Bovas. Hoping Al Dente is able to get rid of them soon.
Great meal, great service above and beyond , super location.
Wicked good food, and the sizes are great. Awesome place to bring a date
The food was delicious and the service was excellent! Our waitress, Lisa, was really patient, warm and attentive. We were 6 people and everyone loved their meal. The portions were huge!! I would highly recommend this gem in the North End.
Been to several more upscale restaurants in the North End but can't compare it to great food here and excellent value. Wait staff all fabulous too!
We’re from out of town and mostly enjoyed our meal as part of Boston’s Little Italy experience. We’d had a sublime knock-your-socks-off experience at another North End Italian restaurant the night before, so I ordered the chicken Marsala like I had at the other place, hoping to be wowed again. NOT the same. I was so underwhelmed. Sauce and mushrooms were just bland. Pasta was ever so slightly underdone. Just meh. Don’t bother. Also ordered the bruschetta, which had flavorless mushy tomatoes, with hardly any seasoning or basil. I knew there was olive oil present because I could see it, but I couldn’t taste it. Don’t bother. Now for the good! My husband loved the gnocchi with sausage that our server recommended for him. Practically licked his plate clean. And the server generously accommodated our fussy itemized separate billing request.
Food was great, waitress was very nice woman. Would have been great if our table wasn’t swarmed by fruit flies. They didn’t seem to be at other tables, guess we were just the lucky ones. Been there before and this didn’t happen. Hope it was just a fluke cause my family really likes it there.
I love the food here! It’s so good. However, it gets cold if you are seated by the door. It is a tight squeeze in the restaurant.
The food is good and the portions are huge! If you want authentic pasta with a great sauce, this is your place!
One of my very favorite North End spots. Everything is delicious and the portions are generous. Wait staff is great!!! Try the Lasagna!!!
Very small but homey Italian restaurant with great food!!
I brought 3 friends who had never been to Al Dente, and they just loved the food! The wine, a Ruffino Chianti, was excellent! I've been here before and hope to return soon.
The place was so small and the staff was so incredibly rude that we opted to go elsewhere. I can’t speak I the food but we ended up across the street where the staff was friendly and welcoming and the food was tasty. There are better options than Al Dente. They truly couldn’t care less about their clientele.
Our favorite North End restaurant. We have found many fine restaurants in the North End but we always try to eat at Al Dente when we visit Boston. Amazing food accompanied by great service every time we've been there. So glad they accept reservations.
Food and service-great as always!! Such kind staff, warm atmosphere and delicious food!!
I celebrated my best friend's birthday at Al Dente on Thursday night. The food was fantastic, service was friendly, and the restaurant had a great feel to it. The homemade noodles are definitely worth the extra few dollars! I would recommend Al Dente to anyone looking for authentic Italian cuisine. Looking forward to dining again here soon!
Food was fantastic. Great portion size for the price. The waitress was great as well. Didn’t have to wait long for the food either.
We walked in and were rudely greeted by the woman who seemed to be the hostess. The place was super dark, smelled like smoke and the bread was rock solid and cold. Our meals were fine. I liked the seafood risotto, but the overall experience was not great. It is also pretty pricey. Not a very special anniversary dinner for us.
Awesome food. Great wine.
Always a fantastic meal - highly recommend the chicken veggie soup with tortellini to start. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu and the pasta is fresh and the prices are reasonable. Definitely get a reservation as they fill up quickly.
We found this on Open Table as we were looking for an Italian lunch near the Old North Church on our last day in Boston. Arrived to a mostly empty restaurant, but it filled up quickly while we were there so popular place to eat. I was disappointed that there were no lunch specials (portions) so could only order a main to avoid overeating or to-go food since it was our last day in town. I drank water and had Veal Marsala and chose Farfalle (bowtie) pasta. Other half had Diet Coke and Chicken Cacciatore. Food was good, service was great, and price was just slightly higher than expected, even for touristy area. Again, they need lunch portions (and prices) so one can order more varieties. Wish they were in the idine program-may return but there are so many good Italian restaurants close by!
Last time at this restaurant about 2 years ago. It was much better. Had reservation for 6:30 PM, however that seemed to have no meaning as we waited to 7:00 PM to be seated. Service was fine. Staff friendly. My wife's veal and shrimp was fine. Lacking some flavor and mostly pasta and not much on the shrimp. My Veal Parm was overdone and dry. Not much flavor. Per glass wine prices on the high side for producers names. Not a memorable visit or experience this time. Most likely will not be back as their are many more better restaurants in the area.
Al Dente made for a great place to bring my gf on a date for Valentine's day. The food was excellent, reasonably priced, and our server Annessa was so nice!
I love this place. I come here probably one per month. Staff makes you feel like family, especially Angela.. We try to request her as often as we can! Love this place. Food is fantastic.
We went here on Valentine’s Day and it was the epitome of a tourist trap. They put up dividers between tables meant to seat 4 people since only couples were dining on Valentine’s Day. It was so tacky. The tables are so close together it creates for a very unromantic setting. Regret going here.
Some of the best Italian food I've ever had. Their lobster ravioli is probably the best in Boston.
Highly recommend! This bustling, cozy, authentic restaurant is our favorite stop when we're in Boston! The best Milanese in the North End and the chicken parmesan and gnocci are also amazing! It's crowded, loud, high energy and a meal that will be exactly what you hoped for when you think of authentic Italian food. Must go!
