About Al and Alma's Supper Club
Al and Alma’s Supper Club was founded in 1956 by Al and Alma Quist. During the day Al was a firefighter and the Mayor of Island Park, at night he cooked the best food on the lake! His idea of creating a dining destination worth making a trip for propelled a lasting history as Lake Minnetonka's longest operating restaurant. Open for dinner only, today's modern restaurant embraces recipes that have spanned three generations. The term "Supper Club" embraces our past but requires no membership! Hand cut steaks, slow cooked BBQ ribs, famous campstyle walleye and homemade desserts accompany modern American fare and delightful nightly specials including fresh ocean fish. Join us out on Phelps Island; you'll be glad you did!
Al & Alma's restaurant is a perfect choice if you want a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, good food, and wonderful service.

Al and Alma's Supper Club Ratings and Reviews
Al & Alma's is the quintessential supper club, right on Lake Minnetonka. There were 6 of us (1 child) for a Saturday night dinner. It was pretty empty when we arrived at 5:45 but quickly filled up by 6:30. 3 of us had steaks, they were all very good. The cheesy hashbrown (special side) was amazing. Too bad it was already dark so we couldn't see the lake. Service was fine, not outstanding, but we weren't in a hurry. Overall great place.
Had a wonderful time and food here with our parents and kids. We had a beautiful window seat where we could see the charter boat take off on the lake. The food was great, but would have loved vegan options. Our waitress was very kind and helpful. Will definitely come here again if the menu expands to include vegan options.
My wife & I arrived for dinner for our anniversary & being a person of color I got the look that they have never seen a person of color in this Resturant!!!
Our waitress was not good! She kept bringing me beers that had 3 ounces of beer missing. I had the walleye which was good, but they served it with cold potatos & when I brought this to the servers attention she didn't take upon herself to fix it. Needless to say I won't be returning to business again!
Our table was ready for us upon our arrival, but with the crowd and noise level, that was not the place for conversation. I wouldn't call it a supper club as much as a bar with dining tables scattered about.
The food was pretty good, not outstanding. There was a fair variety of choices, but not so many that it took long to decide what to try.
I was blown away! I loved the location, friendliness of the staff, attentiveness of the staff, helpfulness of the staff when recommending drinks and meals. The meal I had was the lobster mac n cheese and it was AMAZING. I am very picky about any and all kinds of mac n cheese and this more than measured up!!! all I could do the next day was thinking about the lobster mac n cheese. I was visiting a friend and have advised her that this will be a tradition. Everytime I visit we will be stopping by! LOVED!!!!
BBQ ribs were delicious! Another member of our party had liver and onions and said it was good too. Service was efficient and pleasant. Our reservation and request for a window table were no problem. This was our first time here and we enjoyed our dinner even though the restaurant isn't as upscale as we were expecting for an establishment called a "supper club". Dining area is small and in the same room as the bar. Tables are close together and chair backs from adjacent tables tend to touch the back of each other. Tables tops are Formica with no linens/placemats. The restaurant is not directly on the lake but across the street from the lake and there are houses between the restaurant and the lake. Lake views are through the yards of the houses.
We used to live in the area and have eaten at AL & Alma's for years, been on boat cruises, and have been there for Silent Auctions and family events. We moved to CA about four an a half years ago and when in MN have to get some good walleye! Their camp style walleye is excellent and Iove the oven browned potatoes. This meal was with our family that still lives in the area. I would recommend this local treasure to anyone!
Our garlic mashed potatoes were not very warm. Even though the chicken tasted good, it seemed a bit done. The ribs and shrimp were VERY good! The service was GREAT and we really liked the atmosphere and location. Will be back to try a couple other menu items.
We were seated and then nobody came to our table for about 10 minutes. The place was packed and so noisy that when the server did come, she couldn't even hear us. The food quantity seems to have diminished. It was very disappointing. Don't need to go back any time soon.
We love going to Al & Alma's! We always have great service and the food is fabulous for a reasonable price! We love to support our local businesses! Not only is the supperclub a great experience for food and service, but so are the cruises - whether you go on a public or private!
The food was prepared and cooked to perfection. Major kudos to the chef! The only thing I noticed was that the waitress's were so busy that I felt bad for them. They did an awesome job but they should have had more staff for Mother's Day. We're definitely coming back soon!
The restaurant is very open and has a great view of the lake. My fish tacos were delicious and my companions enjoyed their walleye and burgers. It would have been nice to have happy hour prices on the wine, but I know not every place does that. The service was friendly and the whole atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable.
My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner at Al & Alma's Supper Club. It was my first visit since I went out on one of their boats with many others for prom dinner in high school and I wish I'd not stayed away so long, based on our wonderful experience last night!
The ambience was wonderful - with a view of Lake Minnetonka (although frozen over), a fireplace and a beautiful wooden building.
The food was spectacular. We both had the walleye and the entrees and sides were very tasty. The waitress was very friendly and she made sure to always keep our drinks full and the food was delivered quickly after a tasty bowl full of breads.
The dessert, a slice of homemade turtle ice cream pie, was excellent. You'll enjoy your visit, should you choose to dine at Al & Alma's, and we look forward to returning soon!
Great food and service. I had the small filet and would order it again OR try the liver and onions. Kirby (sp) was our server and was excellent.
Our visit was early (5:00 PM) on a Sunday. The bar was busy and a bit noisy at times. On a busy Friday or Saturday night it might be a problem. Other than that I would highly recommend Al and Almas.
Food and service were great! Disappointed by the table for two, a dinky little table in the middle of the dining room next to a post. Kind of felt like we were bad for being just two, especially when there were many tables open and one next to the window all evening. Would have asked for larger table but thought they might have been reserved. Kind of put a damper on the night. Will ask about seating if we go back.
My husband and I went there to celebrate our anniversary. The food was great...the noise level was more than I had anticipated. It was a fairly full restaurant for a Friday night before Labor Day. If you're looking for a quiet dinner, maybe a later one would be better???
