About Al and Alma's Supper Club
Al and Alma’s Supper Club was founded in 1956 by Al and Alma Quist. During the day Al was a firefighter and the Mayor of Island Park, at night he cooked the best food on the lake! His idea of creating a dining destination worth making a trip for propelled a lasting history as Lake Minnetonka's longest operating restaurant. Open for dinner only, today's modern restaurant embraces recipes that have spanned three generations. The term "Supper Club" embraces our past but requires no membership! Hand cut steaks, slow cooked BBQ ribs, famous campstyle walleye and homemade desserts accompany modern American fare and delightful nightly specials including fresh ocean fish. Join us out on Phelps Island; you'll be glad you did!
Al & Alma's restaurant is a perfect choice if you want a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, good food, and wonderful service.

Al and Alma's Supper Club Ratings and Reviews
First time with Al & Alma's. My mom has wanted to take our whole family on this cruise for many years and we finally were able to do it! We enjoyed the Sips and Sights cruise. I even made reservations for dinner after the cruise thinking we wouldn't have gotten much to eat. But I stood corrected. We were well fed with wonderful food. Very pleasant staff. Very attentive. Kudos to Lili and her sister Zoe and Mary Lee! My mom enjoyed herself tremendously. I will return again. I don't remember our bill because my mom paid for it :)
We scheduled our dinner at Al and Alma's through Open Table. When we arrived (by boat) our table was ready. Our friends had never eaten at Al and Alma's and were so pleased with the experience. We enjoyed the salmon, steak salad and the liver and onions, with extra onions and crispy bacon. What a hit! The guys, who hadn't ordered liver and onions for years...raved that it was better than their moms'. Everyone enjoyed their dining experience at Al and Alma's.
Service was good, friendly waitress. Walleye which is supposed to be a specialty was tasteless. very disappointed in that one. Fish tacos were fair, should have had more condiments served with them, on the spicy side. Penne pasta with sausage was good. Noise level really gets loud when room is filled and you have to shout to hear each other. Yes, would go one more time to try something else as the location is nice to be near the water. Prices are not cheap, perceived value could be increased. ex with the walleye dinner, add a vegetable for the day in addition to choice of potato and salad.
Our entire dining experience was great - nice ambiance, complete menu with reasonably-priced selections, prompt, courteous service. Would come back often. Only drawback: road to restaurant is under construction and almost impassable (not the fault of Al and Alma's) - too bad, as it makes reaching the restaurant most difficult.
We were at al's for a special occasion- December 26 birthday. We went for an early dinner so the service was great and noise level was not an issue (although the restaurant became noisier as crowds arrived). Our server Kristi was very attentive and brought a complimentary birthday sundae after our meal. Thanks al & Alma's for a memorable evening,
I just moved to the neighborhood and wanted to take my girlfriend out for a nice steak dinner, so to Al and Alma's we went. We both ordered the $38 New York Strip steaks and were both terribly disappointed. The steaks (which were supposed to be cooked medium) were burnt crispy on the edges, very overcooked, and had the worst flavor I've ever had on a steak. I also ordered onions and mushrooms on mine, which were undercooked and terrible in flavor too. Lastly, the mashed potatoes were pressed in a square, with a burnt skin that flaked off the top and bottom, and tasted terrible as well. I'm no grill master myself, but I could have done a better job with a $5 cut of meat cooked in a frying pan in my kitchen. And i would have saved just a little bit of money that way too.
This was our first time at Al and Alma's. I would characterize it as "old fashioned" but in a good way! My wife had the filet and I had the rack of ribs. Both were served, by a friendly and energetic server, with a choice of two sides (soup, salad, potatoes served several ways, veggies). The food was excellent and the portions were generous. Nothing "chic", modern or pretentious about this place. Rather, a Supper Club that serves a good meal in a casual setting with a friendly atmosphere.
Arrived for 8:00 reservations. We were seated right away but waited for drinks and menus for 10 minutes. Waited another 15 minutes to order. Finally, the owner came and started to take our order as the waitstaff admitted to catching up. Overall, not a bad experience. They made up for the slow start and the food was good. We will definitely return.
The food is always great and the wait staff friendly and helpful. We always enjoy
our time at Al and Almas and appreciate the fact that they keep their prices reasonable.
It's one of the few restaurants that offer liver and onions, a favorite of one of our
friends. Al and Almas is a lake treasure and we hope it will be there for years to
Great food, great service and all great ambiance. The menu offers choices that all stand out. I highly recommend the Spicy Sausage Penne Pasta. For the ultimate comfort food, Lobster Macaroni and Cheese, both house specialties. But it's all very good food. It's the only Lake spot where you can sit inside and have a conversation without yelling!
Have live on the lake for 3 years and this was our first trip to A and A for dinner. Should not have waited so long. What a throw back to see liver and onions on the menu , and it was delicious. This will become a regular without all the frenzy of other boating dinner destinations on the lake
I didn't realize there was a "supper Club" located here. I had always heard about the boat and cruising. This restaurant has much to recommend. The view is wonderful even on a rainy day. The entrees are above average, while the sides and salads could use improvement. They have a nice wine list and a varied menu. The service staff is lovely and helpful. Parking isn't the best when there is an evening cruise, but if you don't mind a bit of a walk you will be okay. Will definitely return again with friends.
I grew up in Mound and now live in the deep South, so I wanted my family to taste real lake fish on a special occasion. That all added up to going to Al and Alma's for the Walleye. It's $22 a portion and we split two orders among 4 of us! It was absolutely flawless and amazing. WOW. Exceeded all expectations and our service was also phenomenal. Bravo Al and Alma's! Your reputation is fully intact in my book.
Al & Alma's was opened as a steakhouse.. Best steaks ever. Now they have 3 steaks on the menu and they are not that good. We each had a New York which we ordered medium. They were both well done. Love the brown potatoes and garlic bread but wish they would go back to great steaks.
We've been to Al and Alma's many times and this was our best experience. The Prime Rib with a herb crusted rub was very good, the Campfire Walleye pronounced delicious by our friend, and the Chicken Wellington very good by her husband. The drinks were outstanding (martinis and wine) and the service very attentive without being disruptive of our conversation. We appreciated my request to be seated by the window at a round table. Just a lovely and enjoyable Valentine's outing!
We enjoyed our experience at Al and Alma's. The waitress was especially outstanding making the night fun and bright for 4 elder folks. We wish the ride was less complex for we would consider this our regular eating spot. Thank you for a lovely evening!!
This was not a good experience.Strike 1 - Let me begin by stateing there was no parking avaliable. All parking was taken by the boar cruise customers. Had to park 6 blocks awayjust for dinner. Strike 2 - even though I booked a reservation thru Open Table, when we got there they said they had no reservation for us. Strike3 - Requested a romantic table and got stuck right next to the bar..very noisy. Strike4 - out of selected beer choice. Strike 5 Service was terrible all night long. Couldnt even keep water glasses full....Stay away...bad nightmare. Only positive was the Walley dinner.
We always choose this venue for our Birthdays, Aniversary and every time we can! You can spot the owners on site enjoying family and guests. Suzie is our favorate server. After we arrive looking around we see several friends enjoying the end of summer. Thanks for always being here Al and Alma's.
