Akira Japanese Hibachi Steakhouse
All around poor experience. I’ll keep it brief. We arrived at 6p for our reservation and weren’t seated until 7:10. Once we were seated it took me 15 minutes before I needed to find the owner and let her know that we have been seated for over 15 min and needed drinks and someone to visit our table (not to mention the dirty grill from the previous dinner). She blew me off and made some comment that was dismissive rather than apologetic. She then came and took our drink orders and then proceeded to take phone calls, seat more people and take more drinks and dood orders without returning to our table. Another 15 minutes passed and I told my family we were leaving. More than an hour and 30 min later we left. It was such a disappointing experience with the 4 of us the day before mother’s day. Our kids were tired and disappointed after being very patient. It was a poor way to celebrate a special occasion and that set the tone for the rest of the evening. I will never return.
We made a reservation on Open Table for 8:15pm last Sat. However... we still had to wait 45 min before being sat at a table. Then once we ordered drinks and other couples ordered appetizers they did not come out till right before the Hibachi Chef started cooking. We sat and waited another 45 minutes before receiving drinks. It also seemed like we saw several people just standing around in the kitchen while we were waiting for drinks. The food was excellent just felt the service was lacking. I do not think we will be returning to this Hibachi Grill anytime soon.
Cook was very entertaining. Service was great had refills on drinks before you was done with the one you had.
Had reservation but there were no tables available. Waited and finally asked about our table only to be told rudely to sit down-she didn’t have time to talk. Waited patiently but finally ended up leaving as owner kept telling me to sit down and not talk.
We made reservations and still waited 45 minutes to be seated. When we were finally seated, they split our group at different tables (even though I was assured we could all sit together when making the reservation). We waited for a waiter for another 20 minutes after we were seated. When the bill finally came it was way off, we explained to the woman working the register that it was wrong and she said " its fine". Not happy with the service.
We needed up having to wait 45 minutes before getting seated. Waited another 30 minutes or so before our drink order was taken.
We booked our reservation but still had to wait 10-15 minutes to be seated as the hostess had a very difficult time communicating with the guests due to the language barrier.
Once we were seated, we waited 15 minutes (yes, I timed it) until a waiter came to our table. Our order was incorrect, once again due to the language barrier. The sushi we ordered was OK at best. It was on par with what we get from the grocery store but cost 3-4 times as much.
Bottom line, this was the worst service and worst sushi we have ever had in a restaurant.
Chef was great. The service was horrible. They need to hire more help. The Chef had to get our drinks.
Akira was our destination for my son's 21st birthday. We had a great time despite only 2 chefs being available. The service was good. Appetizers and drinks were delivered in a manner that didn't make it feel as if only 2 chefs were in the house. When the chef arrived his sense of humor was great and he engaged all of us, especially my 5 year old daughter. The place was very busy and I heard everyone compliment the chefs.
As for the food, it was tasty but I wish that the egg rolls were a little bit bigger! Also, the soup and salad could be a little bit more substantial considering the cost of the entrees. We all tried chicken, calamari, steak, vegetables, rice and Japanese noodles. It was good. I would return to this establishment. A solid place to take your family.
It is a fun, kid friendly place to eat. And as usual, the chef's were a hoot.
Need more help, service was very slow
Always a fun evening out and the Hibachi Chefs are entertaining and good natured. Food was good and we enjoyed ourselves!
We like the food but it can be salty. Price is reasonable.
More fun when a kid is at the table.
Wine prices incredibly reasonable:) people at the table loved their sushi.
It was perfect for our family! Kids loved it and they just made everyone smile.
The food was good and prepared as you would expect. Chicken maybe a little overcooked. Hospitality Was exceptional as always although a little busy and service a little slow for a Saturday night.
Food good, reservation at 7pm. Got there 645 no one to great at desk 15 or more minutes before anyone showed. 1 group head. They were seated first we were around 730. 5 adults 2 kids and a baby. Sometime around 810 food started. After some complaints Managment said sorry for delay but only 2 cooks. Service slow on drinks refills. Food very good, but much too long a wait and no show of sorrow for long delay.
Then insult added gratitudes for 7 or more
Would say mostly not coming back
This was a very pleasant experience. The service and hospitality were great. The cook we had at our table was the best hibachi chef that we have ever had. He was entertains, funny, friendly, grateful & a wonderful chef. I highly recommend Akira to anyone who enjoys quality Hibachi.
We had to wait over an hour for our food to be cooked, highly disappointed!
We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were seated about 5 minutes after our reservation. Then we were forgotten for the next 35 minutes. No one took our drink order, our food order, nothing. Tables seated after us were waited on before we were. We finally got served after we pointed out the problem to passing staff. Then the person who hurried out to take our order mixed up the requests of the whole table, which delayed the chef in cooking our food. However, the chef was excellent and very personable and the food tasted great.
Had 6:45 reservations and didn’t get seated to 7:30.
The server was rude. We couldn’t get refills on our drinks. We asked in the beginning if we needed to order dessert and was told no we could do later. We waited for 30 minuets to get our check. Asked if we could order dessert and her exact words. No we are short on servers. No dessert. Then walked away.
It was really fun and the chef was excellent. Put on a great show for the kids too. The service was a little lacking especially in the drinks department. We ordered cocktails and probably would have ordered more, but we were never approached by a server again. They did not refill waters either. Outside of that, the food and atmosphere were great.
Waiter was new. Chef did a nice job.
Noy is wonderful...by far their best Hibachi Chef! Food was good as usual, however the restaurant was so incredibly cold, that I could not enjoy as much as normal due to the fact that I was freezing! If you get cold easily, DO NOT sit at the table that is in the middle closest to the entryway as it is miserable. Otherwise, great place for a fun time!
Reservations are a joke, it is still first come first serve. Had a 7:00 reservation arrived at 6:50. Had a family walk in before us with no reservation, and they were seated before us, finally got seated at 7:40. Nice restaurant, good for what it is but using open table for a reservation is not worth your time.
Food was bland and had no flavor even with the sauce options. The rice was not cooked all the way and the food just was blah!
They were a little short-handed but made an honest effort and we enjoyed the food, will return.
Food was excellent and staff very accommodating, despite our party coming in very close to closing time.
Good food good service.
Always amazing! We even arrived early and they seated us immediately. This was our second chef that we've had and it seems that are all superior. Very please, and our daughters were very entertained. It's the most I've seen them eat in a long time! :-)
The food was good but it was HOT in the restaurant. We were told the air conditioning was broke. The outside temp was in the 90's and they had the doors open. We should have left but decided to stay hoping we would get use to the heat. No luck.
Nice place but they don't use yum yum sauce.
food and service was good, the smell in the place not so much. smelled musky and the fact that their ac was not working made the place a little uncomfortable.
Amazing restaurant. The chefs were very impressive and entertaining. The food portions were also exceptional as I was full before I could even finish. The staff was very personal and professional (even more so than any other restaurant of this caliber that I've been in). Gonna add this to our eating out rotation, and will definitely bring our kids next time. I know they would love it!
As far as teppanyaki restaurants go, I'd rate this is fair. It was just 'OK'. Sesame salad dressing was oddly flavorless and creamy and not at all what I expected (and not good). It's also weird to me that miso soup wasn't offered as a choice of soup. Spicy tuna roll wasn't bad, but also wasn't spicy and was so covered in sauce that there's no way to know whether it was tuna or not - I didn't expect good sushi in Indianapolis though.
The rest of the food was as expected - nothing spectacular and I suspect that had everything to do with the quality of the ingredients, which were fine, but not exceptional. The table chef was decent. Service was fine.
I wouldn't recommend this place per se, but I also wouldn't steer people away.
Do not go here for sushi. We waited 40 minutes after ordering for our 3 rolls and we were only the 3rd table in the place. The sushi that came out was not flavorful or fresh. The raw rolls were warmer than room temperature like they were sitting out a long time or were put on a very hot plate. Also, no-one of the spicy sauces were put on any of the rolls. When the waitress, who only came over once to the table, came back and we pointed it out she didn't seem concerned. I can't comment on the hibachi offerings, however the poor service will keep me from ever coming back to find out.
The food is cooked Hibachi style at the table in front of you by the chef, who also entertains as he cooks. Kids loved it as he kept them guessing what he would do next. Great value! Deliciously cooked fresh veggies and lean meat were in all of the entrees and cooked to order. Soup and salad also came with the lunch meal. You can also order off the sushi menu at lunch time as well.
I didn't get the rating overall 5 stars as we did have some issues with delays from our waitress- in bringing out alcoholic drinks, soup and salad timely and refills on drinks. I think this is the rarity though as we have been here before and had great food and great service! Definitely will be back!
Good food. Wonderful atmosphere. I really like the filet.
Very entertaining and the service an food were great!
We arrived 10 mins before our reservation. We had to wait for our Entire party before being seated, to find out the hibachi didn't hold enough chairs for our entire party so we grabbed an addtl table near by. No biggie. Our per server was the Only server As well as the hostess on a busy Saturday afternoon lunch time. We were the first table out of 5 tables seated, yet the last table to be served food or assigned a hibachi chef. We never got the attention of our server after he brought our salads so we never got drink refills until the end of our meal & only then Bc the hibachi chef felt bad for us. Towards 1pm the owner showed up. She attempted to seat people waiting but never offered any additional help to the server, bus boy, or her customers. After we finally flagged her down to pay, she was rude & seemed annoyed with how busy they were. She refused our groups $5 coupon, I'm sure that $5 was really going to make or break her on a $150+ meal. We also got an order to go which had to be paid separately. She refused to take a credit card for this order because it didn't meet her min. $5 spending requirement. We fished out some Change & cash to pay for that. She was overall unpleasant & although we had a great chef & meal, she left a sour taste on the experience. Pitiful.
