Akbar Restaurant - Garden City Ratings and Reviews
Its 3rd time visiting here with friends and family. Waiters are always in rush even cant take order properly. Never come to ask for any other order always have to look for someone.
The atmosphere is so good and comfortable. Not a lots of choice for food but food test is perfect. Will recommended to friends.
Disappointed. Restaurant seemed more interested in proving buffet than restaurant week menu. Menu very limited and a poor choice that did not highlight the cuisine well. The food presented was "boring", which is not what I would normally call Indian cuisine. Service was slow, food: eh!
We were very much looking forward to an enjoyable dinner at Akbar especially since we hadn’t been there for quite some time. There was a private party going on while we were there and that may’ve been the reason why our dinner wasn’t so terrific.
We were given a lovely table and enjoyed the ambiance very much but unfortunately we couldn’t say the same about the meal.
The chicken tikka Masala was horrible- and the small scoop of tasteless rice and salad dished out on this circular metal serving piece was not appealing. The onion kulcha was ok and the tandoori chicken was just ok. The waiter never came over to ask how everything was. The best part was the mango lassi. Sorry but not impressed and won’t be going back.
We have been here many times before for dinner and a celebration. This time, the smoke alarm went off, due to Tandori oven smoking & poor veneration in the kitchen. As the lights flashed , alarm blared, plus drums banging outside awaiting the groom , made dining less comfortable. Wait staff apologized for the smoke and noise, but should have compensated us in some way! Good food though!
Ive been going to Akbar for whats probably at least 10 years now and the food has been consistently delicious. We were there the other night for my son's birthday and because once again the food was incredible I decided to give them a review. Love this place and the staff. Most importantly they make a MEAN Long Island Ice Tea!!
Our food was delicious! Waiter so nice and attentive! Best Indian food ever we would definitely go again ... next time we will bring the kids too. Family oriented or great for a date night . We loved the cauliflower dish, shrimp, and chicken . Way more than I expected! Thanks Akbar you have been there forever and we live a mile away and never visited we will be back it was a refreshing change of pace.
We had the buffet lunch on Sunday which offered a nice variety but the food was merely luke-warm which diminished its flavor. Also, the buffet is set up in the bar area without much attention to the overall appearance. A little ambiance goes a long way, even for buffets.
The service and ambience was great. The food was just average. The chicken lollipop appetizer was almost unedible. Very fatty. The tikka masala was good but not thick enough. The garlic naan was delicous. We has a very good merlot and it was priced very well.
1.Apparently,you get bad service if you are south Indian . I had reservations for a birthday lunch for my son .When he was very young Akbar was an upscale with well-mannered service staff .the mâtre'd made sure to pronounce my last name many times.
2 .the food was tasteless and loaded with chilies although I asked for mild to no heat.
Concept between spices and chili heat is lost here. Classic Indian cooking has disappeared ,and replaced with a lot of oil and chilies .
3.The wait staff don't wait on Indians.Being an 'uppity 'server is not the same as being well groomed in the art of maintaining a fine diningedining experience for the patrons.
4.valets don't know how to valet....
Overall, very disappointed and will not be dining there any time in the future.
