Got together to celebrate two birthdays. The food is consistently fantastic and the service are always top-notch. Because I had made note of the birthdays when I made the reservation online, the staff ended our meal with a surprise candle and ice cream. Akbar is our go-to place for special occasions, celebrations of any kind, or sometimes just a simple night out.

Got seated at a table in the middle of an entrance even though we made reservations a week in advance. We had to talk our way into getting a booth. Overpriced food that wasn’t worth it honestly. They include gratuity in the bill and expect you to pay more gratuity separately. Staff was rude and seemed like they wanted us gone ASAP. We’ve been here before and was never treated like this but will definitely not be coming back.

While I thought the food was good flavor wise, I felt it was toned down for the American palate. Indeed, I was not asked by the waiter what hotness I wanted for the food ordered. He disappeared once the food appeared on the table. They forgot to bring out the rice which came with the meal, and it took a while to get the waiter's attention to get it. He did bring it out promptly once alerted. The busgirl rather than the waiter was quite attentive and checked several times if we needed anything. I always thought that Akbar was one of the better Indian restaurants on LI but though it was good, I left thinking something was lacking.

Food was delicious and service good. We will definitely return. I did note, only AFTER adding my usual 25% tip, signing my credit card receipt and returning to my car, that the bill had already included an 18% gratuity. So they inadvertently got a really, really good tip just because I was in a hurry and hadn’t looked closely enough. It would be helpful and more honest of them to point that out a bit more clearly.

Delicious authentic Indian cuisine in a quiet atmosphere in Long Island. Service was prompt, immaculate and so was interior decoration. Receptionist was very friendly and let us choose our own table in a location we liked. More than ample parking including valet parking available.

Great Indian food as always! Nothing too fancy but unmatched quality when it comes to tandoor items/breads or curries. Wonderful spot to hit to satisfy your Indian food craving (Some of the best Chicken Malai Kabob and Lamb Chops I’ve ever had)

First time there. Parking was an issue. When we walked in at 545, restaurant was empty and quiet and service was prompt then 2 parties of 8 came in so became noisy, restaurant appeal was dated and chairs looked ready to be thrown out. otherwise, food was tasty, well seasoned, but every dish we ordered was too oily.plates were small and price was high. I would return once again to order and try different different dishes.

Excellent Indian food. Everything from the appetizers to entrees were cooked to perfection. Staff is efficient and caring. Ambiance is warm and noise level is low allowing for a relaxing dining experience. We came here often before Covid and now that we're back, we couldn't be happier.

Yes, I would recommend Akbar. The food was hot, tasty and served on time. The waiter was friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be that the restaurant needs to be updated, decor a little tired. If they update it, it might even increase their clientele.

Been here 4 times now. Authentic cuisine. We are vegetarian and had many choices. Started with the chili paneer. For mains we had dal makhani, malai kofta, sag paneer and baingan Bharta (eggplant). Loved it all. Took a bunch home. Ended with gulab jamin. We will be back.

The food was very poor. It was Father’s Day so they had a buffet style dinner. Out of all the dishes only one of the appetizers tasted good. This is just sad. The dishes were very bland and the chicken tasted very chewy which is extremely odd. I know their a la carte menu and options are very tasty but the buffet was just a major let down. On special occasions like this where people are really looking forward to spending time and enjoying good food, you should stick to serving what people are expecting. My parents were really disappointed and I sadly won’t be coming back.

My husband & I have been going to Akbar for at least 35 yrs. That, in itself, is a testament to how much we love it there. Food is delicious, service is great & the waiters/waitresses are very friendly. Our daughter loves it too.

We were here to celebrate our daughter's graduation from Hofstra. The food was simply phenomenal. The rest of the experience was mediocre at best, but the food was so good that we'd be back in a heartbeat except we will likely never get back to the area. (Graduation, remember.) Problems with ambiance and service included a young boy from another family who was jumping around the restaurant, and the staff did nothing until I nearly walked out. Also, staff were generally inattentive once we'd placed our order.
