The only good thing about this restaurant is the decor. Food and service quality was very bad.
Took a guest over the weekend, am disappointed to have gone here. Only one type of Roti (bread), only chicken for meat (every other place I see Two varieties of non-veg - chicken and goat or fish) and food taste was average, not the Akbar food that I experienced much earlier. Many other places give a much much larger spread, more so on a weekend. Silver lining is that there were few customers that meant no wait time like at other restaurants.
The food was good. The decor was interesting. There were 2 weddings going on in the catering hall across the hall which added to the noise level. One suggestion for the management, please clean the menus. Food fingerprints create a bad first impression.
Food was yummy but restaurant was very loud and the carpets look very dated and soiled.
Loved Akbar! Had wonderful, very friendly service. Food was delicious, too. Will definitely be back!
You can't go wrong with Akbar if you are in mood for an Indian meal fix. Went in for late dinner with family, ordered 2 appetizers, drinks and main course. Food quality is great and service was impeccable as always. Waiter came over to ask for water when glass was empty and they replaced the naans which were cold coz we were busy talking rather than eating :).
I think my coworker described Akbar best: "It's fine, and the lunch buffet is $8.95, so I'll be back." Our worst comment was that it was just... fine. But for the price for the lunch buffet, that might be okay.
Best Indian food I've ever had
Love the food, prices and atmosphere. Very friendly management and wait staff. Can’t wait to go back!
I've yet to have Indian food in the US, simply didn't know where it was worth going. A colleague of mine from India who's relocated to the US ate here once and told me it was authentic food which I like. I've only eaten Indian food in Germany and it was always excellent! This location Edison is a gem, truly worth visiting and food was fantastic!
If you're not sure as I was, don't hesitate to give the a try, you'll be glad you did!!
Culinary Nirvana....Best Indian food I ever had!
Great little spot in Edison. Went for a business meal and was casual and quiet. Service was great as not too busy when we got there.
Ambiance is good. Food quality needs be improve. I would be give three star out of five
It was my friends turn to pick the restaurant and she wanted to have Indian food and suggested Akbar. I was hesitant at first because I do not like curry. I was pleasantly surprised to find a wide variety of dishes to choose from. The chicken and lamb kebabs were delicious as was the garlic naan and sweet potato appetizers. The lamb sausage of the kebabs was just the right amount of a medium spicy heat. The lamb chop main course and vegetable rice was also very good. I plan on going back with other friends who enjoy Indian food. I would like to try more dishes. The service was attentive but, not overbearing and the meal was paced nicely. We did not feel rushed or neglected despite the fact that there were several functions going on in the banquet rooms.
Horrible customer service
We were delighted with our Mother’s Day and graduation celebration. Very friendly staff on a busy day. Would highly recommend for authentic Indian meal!
Akbar is always great. Best Indian cuisine in NJ. Go for early dinner as that's the best time !!!
Just a Great Experience! our entire group of 4 loved the food, service was great and staff very friendly!!
Food was pathetic. How can someone go wrong in Dal Tadka...They need to really do something about the taste & quality of food.
Nice food, great atmosphere, very good services, recommend everyone to visit
Was very crowdy...no place to stand...inspite of making reservation twice (one through open table) and one by calling...these guys still made me wait for 30 mins to get me a table...I would not recommend anyone for this....also the food was not good...in a small space they were organizing two parties and also seating people for daily lunch buffet...i don't understand why do they organize parties when they don't have space
Some of the best Indian food around. That's saying something in Central NJ. And... they listen to how you want it spiced and follow through
The service at Akbar is as good as you will find anywhere. There is plenty of room between tables. The food is authentic, expertly prepared and delicious.
Excellent food always fresh and friendly staff make this a DEFINATE return visit.
Food was great and you could taste the freshness. Next time will order food hot since mild had no "heat" and medium very little.
Horrible buffet. Not worth the money at all! the food was prepared horribly and there was a total of 4 choices to eat, some buffet!!!!!
My husband and I had a lovely dinner at Akbar last Saturday. The service staff were very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. We explained our preferences to our waiter and he provided recommendations for our selection of entrees. We asked for our meals not to be too hot and the chef prepared our meals with just the right amount of spices. The dining room is of a modest size, with large windows overlooking a courtyard. This location also has banquet rooms and had other events taking place. It got very busy as the night progressed. It was a very enjoyable experience and we will return.
Like so many other folks from Metuchen, I've seen Akbar many times but never entered. We had a delicious meal in a great environment with wonderful service. I will be back soon.
Table was ready for us as booked. Not a classy place. Food was great. Busy place. Would go again.
Well-appointed, fancily decorated Indian restaurant. Excellent, attentive service with fine atmosphere.
Food was good, but not exceptional. Not worth the long drive which we endured. Was expecting food quality to be as good as Moghul restaurant, but was not the case. We came to Akbar because we couldn't get a reservation at Moghul that night.
The 3 appetizers that we ordered were not so good - Veg Kati roll, Chilli Paneer, Afghan veg soup.
The breads and the veg main courses were good - yellow dal, kurkura bhindi, roomali roti, onion kulcha
Very well decorated Indian restaurant, reminiscent perhaps of dining room in the caliph's palace. Wall hangings in cut glass add to the atmosphere. The food is excellent and the overall service is very good. The one blemish on the experience was that the main courses were brought to the table while we were still finishing our appetizers. This appears to be prevalent in many restaurants these days and Akbar is not unique on this point. Overall, the food and ambiance make this a highly recommended dining location if Indian food is your thing.
Food (Oven - Clay) was below expectation, Table was not completely ready (missing required items) although reservation was made and confirmed well in advance.
We loved this restaurant. You want to go to an awesome, authentic Indian place? This is it. The attentiveness of our server was impressive and everyone had a great attitude. We felt very welcome. Also, the decor makes you feel like youve been transported to India. Its a great place.
Absolutely phenomenal and authentic food and terrific and attentive service. A terrific find and would return as first choice if visiting this area again.
Food was excellent and not to expensive. Service was friendly and prompt. I would definately return to this restaurant.
best if you go for the buffet, it is expensive if you don't.
As usual, excellent service from a staff that goes above & beyond, food was excellent!
