Great food and great service at a price you would expect.
This used to be my favorite sushi restaurant in N.C.
And to be fair, the food is still pretty good...although it’s a step below what it used to be. But the food in no way makes up for the horrendous service and poor ambience. When your server disappears for a half-hour at a time and you have to go hunting people down to figure out what happened to your order...I wouldn’t put up with that at an Applebee’s, much less a high-end sushi restaurant.
As for ambience, apparently Friday night is kids night—I just didn’t get the memo. I’m sorry, but if I’m paying $200 for dinner, I really don’t want you bouncing your toddler on the back of my seat. It got so loud that my 15-year-old has to leave the restaurant and go for a walk.
With how poor the service was, at least he wasn’t risking missing when the food showed up.
In the window, there’s a “help wanted” sign. As long as that sign is in the window, stay away.
Ajisai has the freshest and best sushi in Raleigh. The service is amazing and the owners are great people too.
First time as a group instead of just our family. Service and food was amazing as always. Fresh, beautiful presentation, and friendly service. Good recommendations too.
As always a great experience and great value
For starters, our water glasses looked as if they were grabbed off of the rack of where dirty glasses were placed. No one wants to drink out of glasses with lip marks on them from the previous customer. Also, there was something floating in my water. The last time we went to Ajisai, I had the Thai Basil Chicken and it was excellent. I don't know what happened since then, but when I ordered the same dish, the sauce tasted very "unauthentic"--like it was out of a can. The presentation was quite nice, but I really had to search for the basil, which would have somewhat saved the dish. I think the kitchen concentrated more on Japanese offerings (sushi which we saw brought to others' tables was beautifully presented) but the quality of the Thai dish fell off what they used to do well.
The last time we went to a restaurant when a sign was setting out looking for servers, it could be a bad sign as it was here. Our server did the best he could given the busy Saturday evening crowd there, but we had a long wait for all parts of our meal.
Staff very friendly and the location is good. But the starters took a long time to arrive (40 mins) and when it did it was cold to room temperature. We sent it back and the replacement arrived in about 2-3 minutes. Strange. The replacement was warmer but still not piping hot.
Main course was a bit better. Tasted good but again the food (pad Thai and teriyaki chicken) was not hot. The sushi was fine though.
Waiter was great and gave us a discount, but overall it was a little disappointing.
Never disappoint! The restaurant has delivered superb service and food every time. Our favorite dish is the “new style sushi/sashimi”, the “amazing” sushi roll was delicious though a bit spicy for my taste (just scrape off the green pepper sauce on top and it was perfect for me). The seared bass was so juicy and tender, cooked to perfection. The few times we’ve been there, service was either nice or too nice. Last time, our server Dave ( was it David?, sorry, mommy brain) was perfect. He was very informative but not pushy; Available only when we needed him, no more, no less; accommodating and polite. He even packed little soy sauce containers with our left overs. So thoughtful. Thank you.
We took some friends out to thank them for their business. We had a grand feast! The Sushi was overflowing on our table, it was beautiful and tasted amazing! We ordered so much food that the waiter brought us a special desert at no charge. Overall a great evening.
Nice find while visiting Raleigh. Great selection, lovely presentation, generous portions and very tasty.
Will definitely come back when I'm in town.
the fish was very fresh and presented artfully. Toro is on the menu too which is special. The service was excellent as well......great place
As usual, Ajisai did not disappoint. We had a large selection of nigiri, 2 orders of live scallops and 2 hand rolls. We even ordered dessert!! We paired this with a nice serving of sake. After a couple of hours at the sushi bar, we left full and satisfied! Food was amazing. Service was excellent. Presentation was beautiful. See you soon, Ajisai!!
Everyone was very nice and the food was good.
Decent little sushi joint. Mai tai was too sweet. Tuna tartare was excellent. Sushi was fresh
By far our favorite Sushi Restaurant on the U.S. East Coast! Absolutely outstanding quality and flavors, love Ajisai🙏
Food was excellent! The price for the quality of food was very good. I would definitely eat here again!
Amazing food, as always.
Food was great. Always like the Peking duck appetizer. Raw fish delicious. Salad just ok. Too watery. Food came at different times.
Took a really long time for us to get our drinks. Waiter did not check on us during the meal.
It was casual dinner
I consider it the best restaurant fusion in Raleigh area
The staff are absolutely amazing! Always accommodating. Our server was fairly new and handled our large party like a champ! The food is always good and the presentation is fun!
the noise level was ok - because we ate outside. music was odd since the italian restaurant next door also had music playing.
I keep going to this place because I like their sushi. It is fresh.
One of my favorite restaurants. The food is superior as is the service. The covered patio is such a sweet spot!
Awesome as always!
hands down this is the best sushi i’ve had in raleigh. the atmosphere is unique and a little something extra compared to the other places i’ve been. service was wonderful too! my new favorite spot for sure!
This place is amazing! Not your run of the mill place for sure. Incredible flavours, artful presentation, superb!!
We love sushi and are pretty particular about the quality of sashimi, and this place had a great selection and the food was great! We will definitely come back when we are in town! Outdoor seating was nice as well.
Great experience! Food presentation was an added touch to the excellent service we received. Would highly recommend!
Sushi was decent - not the best I’ve had but not the worst. The service was incredibly slow & inattentive. Ambience was a bit extra in our opinion for a sushi restaurant. Was small & cozy inside but really loud.
The ambiance of the restaurant is chill with a modern vibe. The food and service was wonderful.
The service and the food is excellent. The taste are varied. The dishes are exactly like the pictures on the menu. We have added it to our favorites list.
This restaurant is consistently wonderful. Fresh food, huge variety to choose from, and beautiful presentation. Love the Peking duck sushi appetizer.
The food is outstanding. The service is exceptional. I have the black rice, you must try it.
Another terrific meal. We split the Gyoza and I had a couple a la carte sushi selections (Otoro, Saba and Ikura) and the Chef Choice Sushi Deluxe plate - a balanced selection with a surprise perfectly prepared aburi Salmon. For Japanese cooking, the Gyoza were ok...couple have used a thinner wrapper. Frankly, the best part of this restaurant is the wide fish choices, rice, meal prep and presentation. Very close to what you might get in a restaurant in Japan. Fish was sliced in what I would call a medium thickness. Wait staff is ok - but some need more experience. I find this place is best early and early on a week night is better. The 'inside-the-belt-line' entitled really overwhelm the place and make it not so comfortable - to no fault of Ajisai and staff. I would like to suggest they simply convert the rest-rooms to uni-sex. This is really one of the best sushi restaurants in the triangle for people who really know fish...if you go there for a California roll you should probably walk over the Fresh Market...this is really a place for people who know and love fish like Saba, Aji, Ikura and Otoro. This is a rare place among the clutter of so called Japanese restaurants in our area. It's about the fish!
Everything was great, location, food, service, we enjoyed it very much.
The presentation of the plates, quality and food were impeccable! We highly recommend the restaurant.
