The Tavern has been our go to spot for a reasonably priced casual night out when in town. The burger and truffle fries rank as the best in Aspen.
Excellent dining experience; service exceptional ; food awesome
Poor quality food. Was very disappointed. Ambience was also terrible. Would recommend for apres ski only.
Family dinner. Great food and quick service. Definitely would go back.
Really drafty and cold if you are seated near the windows. We had our jackets on for the entire time.
A nice dinner out, not outstanding, but still fun! Expensive wine by the glass, but great location.
Apres Ski bar that is quite lively, would recommend you wait till 7 for dinner so that crowd leaves and it quiets down some. Food was excellent. Authentic European food, veal schnitzel is wonderful. Onion Soup was fantastic. Plat du Jours available as well. Servers are top notch, friendly and fun group. Great place, I can highly recommend it.
Booked a table for 6 . Arrived 5 minutes early and table not ready . Put on a round table meant for 4 . Tables that would have been able to be put together to accommodate 6 properly were taken as the staff had not blocked the tables to make it ready for us . Very poor show and no real help provided .As we had to provide a credit card and would have been charged for not appearing not impressed at all . Food etc OK but we should have just walked out as the cramped conditions made enjoying the meal difficult . Surprised as we expected a much slicker operation as Ajax part of Little Nell . Compares poorly with all the other places at which we dined in Aspen.
WELL KNOWN FOR THE APRES SKI TERRACE, THIS RESTAURANT IS ALSO WONDERFUL FOR THE DINNER.
IT'S A KIND OF BRASSERIE STYLE RESTAURANT WITH A DIVERSIFIED SIMPLE MENU: TRUFFLE FRIES, BURGERS, TERRIFIC SALADS, STEAK, MUSSELS...
THE SERVICE IS AWESOME AND THE DECO IS NICE: A GOOD SPOT AFTER A FULL DAY OF SKI!
Ajax was quant and the service was exceptional. The food was mostly very good; however, the COD was overcooked, under seasoned and tasted previously-frozen. The vanilla ice cream dessert was a bit of a disappointment as well as it was three very small (think melon-ball) scoops. The lemon tart was very good however.
Great spot!! Best food in Aspen!! Service is friendly and great!!! Going back later in the week!
We've been going to Ajax Tavern for 20 years and always had consistently good food. On this occasion we had a mixed bag. Two of us had the veal schnitzel which was great. I had the nightly special Beef Strogonoff which was hugely disappointing. It would have been more aptly named "beef fat" stroganoff. There was very little beef in the dish , and what there was was connected to larger chunks of slimy fat. I filled my entire side plate with this inedible ingredient. The dish did contain some delicious mushrooms and a few carmelized pearl onions, but no sauce to speak of, which left the wide noodles coated only with tasteless beef fat.
A consistently good place to eat dinner. Fish is always on the menu as a very creative vegetarian entree. The veggie entree was a curried lentil & heirloom cauliflower dish that was delicious. Service here is fast and friendly.
We had 4 people in our group, and we all ordered different things (well, we ordered a fondue for the table, too:)). Everything dish was very tasty and original. Besides, the prices were very reasonable, especially for Aspen. Great place!
In the past we always looked forward to our meal at Ajax Tavern, an Aspen institution. But over the past few years we noticed the food went from outstanding to meh. The service was slow, the food was nothing special at all. There are better places to spend your money in Aspen. We will not be returning.
W always love going to Ajax Tavern when we're in town.
We booked Ajax as we thought it was the night fireworks were
Planned on the mountain right in front of the restaurant. Oops. They were the night before but we kept the reservation anyway and they did not disappoint. These ambiance is casual. The food is casual haute cuisine if that makes sense. Potatoes fried in duck fat. Kale salad with duck bacon was outrageous.
Ajax Tavern, connected to The Little Nell, offers a casual dining experience overlooking Aspen Mountain ("Ajax").
The hostess and service was impeccable. And the quality of food matched.
Our table enjoyed the nightly special of Cioppino, Ajax Cheeseburger, Lamb bolognese, tomato soup, wedge salad and (of course, the mountain favorite) truffle fries. No one was disappointed, so much so, that we made another reservation before leaving...
Perhaps not suited for a romantic night out - although, perfect for a first date - but for all other occasions, especially families, Ajax has something for everyone, served by the best team in town.
Their Elvis desert is amazing!!! We had to go back twice! Don't pass this up!
Okay. I think that the portion sizes are too large. It is a symptom of American dining. More does not mean better quality. I want a pasta with reggiano NOT marscarpone (that is used In Desserts). I feel very bad for the wastage of food.
We have been coming to Ajax since it opened. Each year, the food has been more disappointing. My husband's veal schnitzel was over cooked and extremely dry. My French fries were over cooked. While the salads were very good, the other entrees were just ok.
Go for lunch. Great location and fun atmosphere. Too loud and mediocre for dinner
Great ambiance. Good food. Outstanding service. Happening vibe and great location.
The wagyu tartar was so so, the mussels were great, the steak and frites were very good.
What a great place. Delicious comfort food and the most amazing mojitos!!
Place was great. Service was extremely friendly and attentive. Tried their new Monday night fried chicken dinner. Outstanding.
We had Ajax Tavern's Thanksgiving special. Our food was not good. My stuffing and potatos were cold! The service was as bad as the food! Skip this restaurant!
The whole point in going out to a restaurant is to hopefully get food better than what you can make at home. They failed at that.
Seated prmptly. Gpod service. Food just ok. Would not return.
Food & ambience are great !
lacks wow of Aspen
it was really hard to get your server to notice you
food is so so
Had the Lamb Bolonagese ... Was bland, over priced, unseasoned, and the portion was mediocre ...
When it comes to excellence in cuisine, service, ambience and fair price, Ajax Tavern is one of the best restaurants in Aspen.
Having visited this eatery many times over the years, I would say this was my worst experience-- poorly prepared food, barely seasoned, served tepid rather than hot. Who's watching this kitchen?
We had dinner here, and most of us were very happy with our options -- including the pork schnitzel, the steak, kids' options. One person thought her hamburger was 'bitter' and didn't like the way it was made. The fries were great. Bottomless soft drinks, and very attentive service. The prices are exorbitant, which is to say that they're Aspen prices. We liked having the view of the ski slope/mountain out back.
Nice prix fixe menu every autumn - well cooked, large portions. Friendly service.
Spent four days in Aspen, ate at several of the top rated restaurants in town. Ajax Tavern was the was the only one that had reasonable prices. The burgers and fries were outstanding. My son had steak and frites, he said the steak was better than one we paid twice as much for a couple of nights before. The lamb bolognese was delicious also. The wine list had a good selection of fairly priced wines. Will definitely go back next time we're in Aspen.
Steak frites and beet salad were great! View is lovely. Just needs a fire pit!
Consistent quality, great service and the ability to order off the little nell wine list makes this a must!
Great food and the ambience both outside and inside are great for a casual dinner. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable on food and wine selection. The pace of dining was perfect and we were not rushed through our coffee.
