Agami Contemporary Sushi
Food is good, but the selection is limited
We have been to this restaurant at least 10 times and enjoyed it. However, last Saturday was completely different. The food was basically inedible and when we told our server she did not listen and talked over us. There was so much food left on the table we at the very least thought she would remove some items from the bill. We paid the tab, did not tip and will never return.
As always... an exceptional experience. The drinks, the food, the service... top notch. Judy always makes us feel special. Hands down, my all-time favorite sushi restaurant in Chicago!
We were seated in a cozy booth for a Friday date night. The excellent food, great dirty martinis, attentive server with good recommendations made for a lovely evening in our neighborhood. We'll be back.
Amazing food! And tasty drinks. The service, however was super slow. It seemed they were understaffed. The bartender and server was very helpful and kind, just too many tables to take care of. It took 50 minutes from the time we sat down to place our order...1.5 hours to get our food. And only a chance to order two rounds of drinks in two hours. It's located very close to the Aragon Ballroom & Riveriera, so on show days they really should have more staff working. We went to dinner & drinks before a concert and would have ordered way more food had the service been faster. So the restaurant suffered big time. But I wouldn't pan the restaurant, could have just been a bad day. Like I said the staff working was great and the food was absolutely delicious. Prices are pretty good, too. Next time I may sit at the sushi bar in the back, seems like it may be a better spot to get food quicker.
Truly the best Sushi we ever had with the best and a really outstanding service! Top of the tops!
It was the BEST sushi I've had so far!!! The selection, the freshness, variety, taste- wow! It was something! words can't describe the feeling! We've been celebrating the birthday, they took a photo of us and at the end brought a framed photo as a gift to our birthday girl!!! Such a nice gesture! We loved the place even more!
Creative sushi good enough on its own. No soy sauce or wasabi needed! I’ve been to other places in Chicago, but after ten years of exploring the restaurant scene, I still end up back at Agami. I’d say it’s one of the city’s hidden sushi gems and I highly recommend.
AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE!! NEVER a disappointment!
Good food but sloooooooooow service. Had to beg for drinks. Nice waitresses, they may have not had enough people in staff.
They seemed upset that we were there. The hostess just pointed to our table when she attempted to seat us and walked away. The service was prolonged as it took us 20 minutes just to order our food and another 30 to to receive it. The sushi rolls themselves were great! The service, NOT.
Great spot to get sushi in the area!
I had high hopes for this based on the reviews. I'm not sure if they didn't anticipate pre-concert traffic, but it seems like they were grossly understaffed. Which is odd, because it was a Saturday night and the restaurant wasn't packed, but the waitress was completely stressed (which made us stressed) and it was one of the slowest meals I've ever had in America. It was at least 10 or 15 minutes until anyone came by at all, and we were definitely there well over an hour before our food came. Crazy. The sushi was fine - the special rolls were pretty good, spicy tuna roll was so-so. The ambiance is cool, but that's not enough to make up for everything else.
Order take-out! We were seated for over two hours. Service was awful.
Great dinner before heading over to the concert!
Went for my birthday. The service was a tad slow with not too many customers to handle. Also, our sashimi plate the white fish was frozen. But the salmon was the best I’ve ever had. The birthday perks were nice. Picture with my friends and some tasty green tea ice cream. Was hoping for a better experience being outside of downtown
Thank you for making my boyfriend's birthday so special!
We got to the restaurant at 6.45PM, service took the order at 7.15PM and got the food at 8 PM. prolonged service, we missed the beginning of the show we attended too.
Food was terrific as always, but you must get more attention to your customers.
We had reservations at 6:15 and got in right away. We quickly ordered appetizers and our dinner. Our appetizers came but waited for our dinner for over an 1:15. Had to get to a show so we didn’t get to eat. Very dissapointed!
Our server was amazing and doing his best but the experience was horrible. The bar was so slow it took 45-min to get our drinks. Food was poorly timed as well, some people were finished eating before others got their appetizer. Some food never even came out and we had to have it removed from the bill.
Not your typical sushi rolls and offerings, but everything we ordered ended up being delicious. It was very crowded and it took us a while to have our order taken and get our drinks, but that was probably due to the concert (that we were attending) at the Aragon that evening. FYI That service may be slow if there is a show at the Aragon. Our servers were very good, I think they were just understaffed. Fun spot for a slightly different take on sushi!
Great food. Good choice before concerts. They struggle with cocktails/martinis. None of the 4 martinis we ordered were memorable.
For a Saturday Night the place was basically empty... but the service was still great... the waitress was attentive and explained everything to us.. will definitely go back hopefully next time its a little more busy
Good place for sushi in this neighborhood. We headed there before a show at the Riviera.
Really enjoyed the sushi. Good value for the $. The Spicy Tuna roll was the spiciest I've had and we loved it. Other sushi was really artfully done on the plate. Some of the prettiest I've seen.
Wonderful as always
We made reservations for 6:45 on Valentine's day, and showed up to be the 3rd table in the restaurant. They appeared to only have 3 servers, and the service was exceptionally slow. It took nearly an hour and 15 minutes to get one entree, 2 drinks and an appetizer. It took another 30 to finally get our check. They did give us two smaller drinks as an apology, but after spending 89 dollars on food, I figured the service would be passable.
This is my all time favorite restaurant. You won’t find better or more creative sushi in Chicago.
Great sushi! We loved every bite.
I know it was freezing cold on the night we visited there seemed to be no heat turned on. They moved us further away from the windows, but it was still way to cold to enjoy a meal
They sat us down and ignored us for about 45 minutes. We had to flag the host over to take our order.
Great restaurant! Food was fabulous and atmosphere was fun and eclectic.
Great food, ambiance and service. Will definitely be back.
We stopped in for dinner before a show at the Riviera and were happy with our decision! My wife had a kimchi soup with pork belly that was spicy and delicious. I had a California Roll and the Chicago Bulls Roll. The Cali roll was not the best I've had because there was some type of crab salad mix in the roll that wasn't very good. The Chicago Bulls Roll was very filling and delicious. I've never had sushi topped with shrimp and was not disappointed! I will be ordering this kind of sushi going forward!
Thoughtful atmosphere, food, and waitstaff.
My friend and I were seated immediately in this cozy yet modern restaurant. The lightening and decor are warm and dark, but not too dark where you can't see (I sound like I'm 70 rather than 27...). We couldn't decide on which wine to choose so our waitress gave us a taste of both, which was greatly appreciated. The edamame, spicy miso soup, tuna gone wild, salmon roll, and spicy tuna were all winners.
Went there before a concert for my birthday and John our server/bartender was very accommodating and the food was beyond expectations. The fatty salmon sashimi was the best and the volcano just melted in my mouth.
Went for anniversary. They were very kind and attentive. Went all out to make our anniversary special.
Had mostly sushi. Usually I prefer sashimi as most sushi in Chicago is not well balanced. The nigiri and maki(rolls) at Agami are amazing. I highly recommend trying them. The rice is very well done, the wasabi and rice vinegar are well balanced. They also have some very good fish which is rare in Chicago.
The service was also top notch.
Good food bad service. Average drinks ..............
We dined at Agami for my husband's birthday and they above and beyond to make it special! The food was great and the ambience was perfect!
This was our third visit to Agami and we have had great service and great food every time!
I hope they continue to attract new folks as it was pretty empty on a Saturday night and we don't want it to close!
