   This is a basic restaurant….nothing spectacular but solid food and great selection. It's a vibrant place and our service was amazingly attentive but not annoying.

   We've been to ATG a half dozen or so times, and each time my wife and I have sworn it would be the last. They never seem to know what kind of resto they are, and the food and ambiance has proven that. This visit was different, one I would recommend (and have) to other friends and family. The four of us raved about our foods and the service etc., was pretty good. Pretty sure that is my 7th visit and likely the 4th or 5th menus I have seen from them in the year they've been open, but it's a keeper this time, well done folks!

   I found this place looking at places for winterlicious and was attracted by their description of their food as "beer cuisine". The menu highlighted this description and my friends and I enjoyed our meals very much. The staff were diligent and friendly and handled minor hiccups with practiced grace.

   I arrived at the restaurant right on time and they have a table available for me right away. They gave me the same table that I was seating last time. The waiter almost came immediately after we took off some clothing and settled down comfortably. My wife and I opted for Winterlicious menu even though we would eagerly try other items on the menu. I ordered pork chop while my wife had white bass. The appetizer came very fast and before we started diving on it, the main course came! The kitchen seems not to be coordinating very well. All dishes came very hot. The portion was smaller than I expected especially for my wife's white bass. The dishware was big with a pool of chicken broth at the bottom, few potatoes and a small filet on top. It looks like an appetizer rather than main course. My pork chop is done perfectly and the portion is ok. I ended up giving some of my dish to my wife to keep her happy. I finished my dish but my beer did not even arrive. My waiter came to check how we did and I told him where my beer is. He apologized but I did not feel like drinking a beer after my main course. So I canceled the drink. The dessert was delicious but why serving a cold dessert with a hot plate? Go figure. Overall, the food is good but the portion is smaller than our preference. The service is so-so and have lots of rooms of improvement as other reviewers have highlighted.

   We had a nice time; visited for the first time with out of town friends. Winterlicious menu was good. Excited to return for drinks and brunch. Great beer selection.

   I love Against the Grain on the waterfront. It is really one of my favorite places in Toronto; an upscale pub. The Leaside location does not disappoint. Beautiful space, but suitably quiet that I could chat with a business associate and we could actually hear ourselves. The food is good; we ordered burgers and our waiter was kind enough to make mine half salad and half fries; a great touch. The one thing I do not like is the sort of team service. We really had no idea who our waiter was, as it seemed like there was a different person for everything. Small quibble, over an otherwise good lunch. Of course, I will be back here and downtown.

   we visit the restaurant quite often for lunch. It is reliably good food, kid-friendly which still being hip-ish (and there is parking in leaside!!). I particularly enjoy the beet salad, and my husband the flatbreads. The service is hit-or-miss; there is one mature male waiter who is usually there at lunch who is good, but when he's not our server we usually find ourselves having to "flag someone down" (even when its not busy) - but to be fair, poor service seems to be par for the course in the industry these days.
