Ordered the salmon...I am picky when it comes to fish, and the taste was great. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. My friend ordered the shepard's pie, which came with a small green salad, and she enjoyed it as well. The only potential downsides to this place are that it is pretty noisy and my portion of food was rather small for the $27 price tag. For that amount, I would have expected it to come with a salad or a more substantial side.

Food menu is pretty limited, with only a few expensive ($25+) entrees, and another handful of lower priced entree/salad options ($15-$20). Our meals were good, though not superlative. Also, why use strawberry butter sauce in October, especially at a gastropub? We were slightly put off by some odd/out of season sides/garnishes.

Consistency is missing at againn. Our cocktails were very good, but the second and third weren't as good as the first. All 3 people I went with complained that the food was way over priced compared to the quality. Better food quality and I would recommend this place, just lower your food prices to match the quality or fix the quality to match the prices.

It. Is. Loud. I went for dinner on a Friday and was blown away by the loudness of the place. There was a large crowd at the bar, so maybe that was the cause, but I could not hear my dining companions or our server.

The food was better on this visit than my last. I had the fish special, my colleagues had fish and chips and shepherd's pie. The service, however, was poor. The waiter was too quiet to understand. He was attentive to take our order, but as often happens, took to long to bring the check. When he did, it was not ours. He brought ours, but then when he came back with the bill to sign with the credit card, neither the bill nor the card was mine. The manager, sensing my frustration, ended up not charging us for lunch. But frankly, I would have prefered to pay, and had good service. She did the right thing, but they need to work to hire dynamic servers who compliment the dining experience, not bring it down.

The French Fries (chips) used to be the best in the world. Last night I doubt if they were even the best on the block. Strangely, the burger was the same great burger I've had there before.

Great ambiance and beer selection but the food quality is just not up to the level they are charging. The pork belly confit was dry and over salted. The shepards pie was good; but nothing to write home about. There bread pudding dessert was great. Overall, we think its a good place for drinks or to use your groupon but wouldn't go back otherwise.

Food was quite good and better than expected. The place is so loud you can barely hear yourself think, a fact that seriously distracts from the experience. Large windows onto street are nice, but something needs to be done to dull the sound.

The staff at this eatery was very pleasant and did not rush us for dinner. The bangers and mash were quite good as was my wife's Shepard's pie. Not a romantic place, they did accommodate our friends two young children who came along as the sitter bailed. Overall, if you are in DC I would suggest you check it out, especially for lunch on a week day

They sat us next to the group of about 40 people. It was very noisy and the service was very slow. It took half an hour before they brought bread. They brought a wrong salad and took forever to bring the correct salad and they didn't even apologize. Granted they didn't charge for it, but it was frustrating. I'm willing to give it a second chance.

For those of you that may have tried AGAINN in the past and were not satisfied with the limited entree selections, you might want to give it another shot, as it appears that the selection has been somewhat expanded. On this trip I decided to try something "very Irish" from their menu, so got the got the Steak & Guinness Pie. The pastry top was a beautiful golden brown and amazing flaky. Inside was a generous service slow-simmered brisket that was both very tender and flavorful. It was faithful to a traditional meat pie without being overly flavored and seasoned. They have an amazing Epic IPA on tap (can't remember specific name), and the outdoor service was very good.

I love gastropubs. Found this by searching for gastropubs in the D.C area and the reviews seemed good. The drink list is for sure unique and fun. The menu seemed limited in the range of offerings. I had the halibut and it was very good. The fish and chips were tasty but not crispy enough. Worth a try but wasn't amazing.

Service, dinner, and drinks were all very good. My only complaint is that they were out of several items that we ordered, including at least two different single malts, one wine, and one entree. It was a little frustrating, although the bartender and server handled it well, and our overall experience was good. I just wish that they would have used an abbreviated menu or something, as it seemed they were going through a major menu overhaul or something.

Againn has an interesting menu (even though they were already out of lobster at 6:30 pm on a Saturday night?!), and the service was really good, but my main complaint is with the value. $37 for an average 12 oz ribeye with some mashed potatoes and a grilled portabello mushroom... the steak was tough and with a lack of flavor. And my date ordered a strawberry Pimm's drink... $15 for a 12 oz glass filled with crushed ice, some Pimm's infused with strawberry. I understand signature cocktails are expensive, but that was ridiculous. I've heard to only go to Againn for lunch, where the menu items are tastier and the prices reasonable.

I've been to Againn several times now, and have an excellent experience every time. The cocktails are so unique but not strange (I'm looking at you, The Passenger...) and I'm always sure to get whatever their seasonal soup is because it's always amazing. This time I got the salmon fillet and, while the chopped herbs on the side came WAY over-oiled, the salmon itself was a perfectly cooked medium rare. Wish I'd had room for dessert. Our server was very friendly and helpful but not overly attentive (in a good way). Will definitely be back, as this is one of the best options in this part of town!

We enjoyed our visit to AGAINN! Food presentation was beautiful and food was excellent. My husband ordered the 12 oz rib eye and have to say it was the most tender steak I have ever tasted. The 1/2 grill lobster presentation was a feast for the eyes and also was delicious. Our visit was on a Saturday night over Labor Day weekend so it was not very busy, which we were very happy about. A nice quiet evening for us but I'm sure that is not the case when it is not a holiday. A bit pricey but worth it.

First time eating there. Good selection of entrees. The charcuterie board as an appetizer was outstanding. Shepherds pie was OK although very salty. Drinks overpriced ($3.75 for iced tea and sodas - $4.00 for a cup of coffee) like most places. Seafood and pasta were both very good.
