About AG Kitchen
"Hi there, it's chef Alex Garcia. In my kitchen there are no borders just fun delicious food made from the best ingredients I can get my oven mits on! As a native Cuban I grew-up appreciating the simple joys of food and conviviality centered around the family table, so here at AG Kitchen you'll find the food I enjoy cooking and eating with my friends and family. It's my take on American and Latin classic comfort food. There's my signature ceviches, and other starters and salads, a collection of burgers done my way, a delicious take on Roasted Chicken served Brazilian style, plus a paella style dish for 1 or more and mix and match surf and turf. It's always a dinner party at A.G. Kitchen.

AG Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Very disappointing. Drinks were terrible- sangria overly sweet, didn't seem to have actual alcohol in it. Margarita tasted like Limeade- truly gross. Food was disappointing too, particularly the paella (mushy, poor flavor), and the ceviche, which wasn't true ceviche as advertised but was basically a bunch of cooked shrimp drenched in what tasted like pineapple salsa out of a can. The guacamole was tasty but cilantro-heavy. Basically won't be coming back here.
We live in the neighborhood of AG Kitchen, and have eaten there dozens of times. This time we went with friends who spoke broken english. She wanted plain salmon with vegetables. There is one salmon dish on the menu, with sauces. I asked if she could just have the salmon plain, and then asked if it comes with vegetables, as it didn't say. We were planning to order from the side dishes otherwise. The waitress looked at me and barked "read the Menu". I showed her the menu, patiently, and said this was the only salmon dish there, and it doesn't say. To which she apologized profusely.
Too late. This was Christmas Eve. The restaurant was half empty. My husband told her we wanted another server.
Sorry, AG Kitchen, but no more visits from us, with or without guests.
Don’t normally write reviews, but really like AG Kitchen. Food is extremely consistent (and absolutely delicious). Unfortunately, tonight is the first time I’ve been disappointed with the service. The waiter had a poor attitude each time he visited the table. When minor requests were made for food or drinks he was unpleasant and not amenable. Overall, will definitely be back, but hoping we don’t have to deal with the same waiter.
Simple, clear neighborhood mix-Mex restaurant with tasty food, good drinks and delightful service. Nothing mind blowing but the arugula salad is excellent and the Braised Short Ribs Arepa are among the best on the menu. Easy, casual, and the wait staff is very fun. It is a place to go to often, on the spur for simply good food.
We had tried to get into this place on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and they were booked solid. After eating there Saturday night, I now know why. This place is awesome. Food is great. Guaq was delicious. My wife had the potato skin burger and loved it. We will be back, and often.
We went expecting a great burger and casual food. The burger and tacos were indeed very good, but the appetizers were very disappointing. Pork steamed buns were hard as a rock, and the empanadas were also. Calamari was soggy from the sauce dripped on top. The crab cakes were ok. I would consider going back again but would not order appetizers.
a good dining experience as always. the only concern was that in my reservation I had specifically requested a booth and when I arrived there were only 3 parties seated and they were all in the 3 booths. why don't people seating guests look at the reservations beforehand so that requests can be accommodated?
AG Kitchen has friendly, welcoming service from walking in the front door to finishing coffee and dessert. Our waiter was friendly and most importantly patient with us as we decided on drinks, apps and main course. We were never hurried or made to feel they wanted to turn the table over. We have had that happen to us at other establishments so we know the difference.
I will recommend AG Kitchen to friends who frequent the Upper West Side for shows and attractions.
I live around the block from AG Kitchen and have loved for years, but this place has gone downhill in the past 6 months. Something changed for the worse, and I have returned 3 times hoping it was just a fluke; however no more data is needed. The service is now terrible in every way (slow, inattentive, unfriendly) and the food is now sub-par (not seasoned and took too long). Even the glass of wine I ordered was sour and needed to be replaced (something I never have to do). There are literally dozens of better restaurants within a 3 block radius. Sadly, I no longer have anything good to say about this place.
I was going to a show at the Beacon Theater and used Open Table to find a spot to eat. Another great choice -- the food at AG Kitchen was excellent. I had the freshly prepared Guacamole appetizer -- which was fantastic -- great flavor and good sized portion. For my main course I opted for a Salmon filet -- which was cooked perfectly with an interesting rub. I was seated at an outside table on a great evening in NYC. Great experience and I would highly recommend it. I already have another reservation booked for later this week!!
Service was slow and not effective. Example: waitress spoke about how the empanadas had changed but she "wasn't sure how".
We said we would try them along with "tableside" guacamole.
The guacamole was not made tableside, the portion was about a 1/2 cup and it was the saltiest thing we had ever had. The empanadas never showed.
Dinner- medium burger showed up rare. Same for skirt steak.
So many other options for a simple meal in this neighborhood- opt for one of those and skip AG.
Alas, my husband got sick after eating the famed cubano sandwich (which he thought tasted a little off...). His french fries were yummy, though. The tuna in my tuna burger was cooked exactly as I'd asked, but the bun it came on was stale. My side of plantains were glued together into a single greasy glob, as if they'd been made earlier in the day and wound up sitting around. Sad.
On the plus side, our server was very friendly and efficient, and my water glass never went empty.
Sorry to experience such a downgrade of the food At AG Kitchen since its promising beginning.
