I recently came to afternoon tea with friends to exchange Christmas presents. I was nervous because I have some food allergies and it's a prix fixe menu, but our server Asmaa was fantastic. She was thorough and wrote everything down. She worked with the chef to make sure there was a plate for me with the food I could eat and nothing I couldn't, and even added some extra sweets that weren't on the menu for me as a surprise. The staff went above my expectations and I felt very taken care of. She really made the experience perfect for us.

The tea was wonderful. I had the Lady Blue Earl Grey, and my friends had the Chai and the Champagne of Teas and all were fantastic. The ambiance and live music really made the day special. I'm looking forward to coming back, and I hope to have Asmaa as our server in the future. Thank you for a wonderful day!

Lovely way to spend a cold Boston afternoon. Food was very good servers attentive.

Disappointed by tea. The room while beautiful was chilly. The tea had way too many leaves to sieve. The price is higher than other teas I have gone to in Boston.
The service was good. The food was also good.

The food was shockingly bad: stale sandwiches, dry cookies, inedible pastries, scant amount of food for $46 each. We would have wanted more if it hadn't tasted so bad! What was once a special treat at an elegant hotel is now a bad joke!

Elegant, memorable---sitting one floor above Tiffany's, looking out the window at Chanel. Life served in tiny, perfect bites.

Sadly, this was a disappointment. Upon our arrival we were met with chaos since it was also the same time as a children’s function. There was no one to assist any of us who were there for the adult tea, so we were left to fend for ourselves. The food was uninspiring, and some things were stale. The table was too small to accommodate the four of us. We had high expectations, but alas we were unimpressed. Worst of all was the complete failure by the valet to bring our car. After waiting 45 minutes, and hearing from four different valets that it would be “just a minute”, each and every one of them simply abandoned the search and went on to assist a different customer! It was snowing, we were in heels, and one of us didn’t have a coat ( since we had chosen to use the valet service!) Finally the car was located, but they didn’t even bother to drive it to the entrance where we had been waiting. They simply told us it was around the corner, but didn’t show us where, or help us to it. What chaos!

We have been to the Taj for afternoon teas many times and always enjoyed our experience. However, our recent experience was not enjoyable. Our server was not attentive, he never poured our teas, and he kept dropping things or banging on various items on our table. He rarely checked in with us. Despite using the strainer, there were so many tea leaves in our teas that I was not able to enjoy my tea. The food was nothing special. Overall, we were disappointed.

My family went to the Taj to enjoy afternoon tea, a nice setting and each other's company. However, about halfway through, two ladies with two young girls were seated adjacent to us, and one of the girls was extremely loud. Once, a staff member came up to them and very, very politely asked if they could keep it down a little (someone must have complained). This did not help, however, and shockingly, the lady (mother?) with the loud girl never even told the girl to keep her voice down (as if the girl had a right to destroy everyone else's experience, for which we paid $50/person). To add insult to injury, the guitar player seated close to them stopped playing and left, as he likely felt that his efforts to create a nice atmosphere were in vain (and this was at a time when the room was nearly full of guests!). I hold the staff responsible for this situation, as they should have politely asked the loud party to move into a separate room elsewhere in the hotel. The Taj should also consider setting an age limit to attend afternoon tea.

I have been meaning to go to Afternoon Tea at the Taj for years. I had a friend visiting from out of state and thought this would be a great way to enjoy some quality tea and snacks while catching up. We went later in the afternoon and felt like we got off to a bit of a rocky start. The host seated us at a table that was not reset from the previous setting. The waiter did not approach us for quite some time despite being one of 4 tables in the living room/lounge area. Still, it was beautiful and there was someone playing live music. Ambiance was great. There were little sofa areas, and i regret not requesting one as they seemed a bit more intimate and better for catching up than a formal table. The waiter did not notice we were missing plates and accessories, but another server came by and she reset the table properly and really showed us all the ceremony that is expected of an afternoon tea. She definitely stole the show and salvaged the rest of the afternoon. We got a few different pots between the two of us and the tropical green was outstanding. The snacks and sandwiches were also delicious. Overall a great experience, but if it wasn't for the second server, i'm not sure if we would have enjoyed it as much as we did.

The savory portion of the tea was ok. The salmon pate was fishy, the chicken tandoori was chewy and the hummus wasn’t very good. The shrimp was pretty good but has cilantro so if you don’t like that tread carefully! The desserts were very good. The tea was tea. It was as expected and fine. The ambiance is great. It’s a beautiful building and a lovely room. The service was fine. Nothing exceptional. The total cost was prohibitive considering most of the savory sandwiches were just average. Paid $50 per person for the tea service, probably worth closer to $35 per person.

We had tea at the Taj for the family (children, grandparents and parents). It was a very elegant affair. The Taj is decorated very nicely and has an “old world” charm. My daughters (ages 8&9) enjoyed our outing as well. There is a children’s option (hot chocolate, peanut butter and jelly, dessert) There are many different tea options. With the tea you are given sandwiches and pastries in small portions. We mentioned that most of our party is vegetarian and vegetarian options were given. The amount of food is deceiving and ends up being a meal. We highly recommend tea at the Taj for a special occasion or for visitors from out of town. There is also live music.
