Sadly, this was a disappointment. Upon our arrival we were met with chaos since it was also the same time as a children’s function. There was no one to assist any of us who were there for the adult tea, so we were left to fend for ourselves. The food was uninspiring, and some things were stale. The table was too small to accommodate the four of us. We had high expectations, but alas we were unimpressed. Worst of all was the complete failure by the valet to bring our car. After waiting 45 minutes, and hearing from four different valets that it would be “just a minute”, each and every one of them simply abandoned the search and went on to assist a different customer! It was snowing, we were in heels, and one of us didn’t have a coat ( since we had chosen to use the valet service!) Finally the car was located, but they didn’t even bother to drive it to the entrance where we had been waiting. They simply told us it was around the corner, but didn’t show us where, or help us to it. What chaos!

We have been to the Taj for afternoon teas many times and always enjoyed our experience. However, our recent experience was not enjoyable. Our server was not attentive, he never poured our teas, and he kept dropping things or banging on various items on our table. He rarely checked in with us. Despite using the strainer, there were so many tea leaves in our teas that I was not able to enjoy my tea. The food was nothing special. Overall, we were disappointed.

My family went to the Taj to enjoy afternoon tea, a nice setting and each other's company. However, about halfway through, two ladies with two young girls were seated adjacent to us, and one of the girls was extremely loud. Once, a staff member came up to them and very, very politely asked if they could keep it down a little (someone must have complained). This did not help, however, and shockingly, the lady (mother?) with the loud girl never even told the girl to keep her voice down (as if the girl had a right to destroy everyone else's experience, for which we paid $50/person). To add insult to injury, the guitar player seated close to them stopped playing and left, as he likely felt that his efforts to create a nice atmosphere were in vain (and this was at a time when the room was nearly full of guests!). I hold the staff responsible for this situation, as they should have politely asked the loud party to move into a separate room elsewhere in the hotel. The Taj should also consider setting an age limit to attend afternoon tea.

I have been meaning to go to Afternoon Tea at the Taj for years. I had a friend visiting from out of state and thought this would be a great way to enjoy some quality tea and snacks while catching up. We went later in the afternoon and felt like we got off to a bit of a rocky start. The host seated us at a table that was not reset from the previous setting. The waiter did not approach us for quite some time despite being one of 4 tables in the living room/lounge area. Still, it was beautiful and there was someone playing live music. Ambiance was great. There were little sofa areas, and i regret not requesting one as they seemed a bit more intimate and better for catching up than a formal table. The waiter did not notice we were missing plates and accessories, but another server came by and she reset the table properly and really showed us all the ceremony that is expected of an afternoon tea. She definitely stole the show and salvaged the rest of the afternoon. We got a few different pots between the two of us and the tropical green was outstanding. The snacks and sandwiches were also delicious. Overall a great experience, but if it wasn't for the second server, i'm not sure if we would have enjoyed it as much as we did.

The savory portion of the tea was ok. The salmon pate was fishy, the chicken tandoori was chewy and the hummus wasn’t very good. The shrimp was pretty good but has cilantro so if you don’t like that tread carefully! The desserts were very good. The tea was tea. It was as expected and fine. The ambiance is great. It’s a beautiful building and a lovely room. The service was fine. Nothing exceptional. The total cost was prohibitive considering most of the savory sandwiches were just average. Paid $50 per person for the tea service, probably worth closer to $35 per person.

We had tea at the Taj for the family (children, grandparents and parents). It was a very elegant affair. The Taj is decorated very nicely and has an “old world” charm. My daughters (ages 8&9) enjoyed our outing as well. There is a children’s option (hot chocolate, peanut butter and jelly, dessert) There are many different tea options. With the tea you are given sandwiches and pastries in small portions. We mentioned that most of our party is vegetarian and vegetarian options were given. The amount of food is deceiving and ends up being a meal. We highly recommend tea at the Taj for a special occasion or for visitors from out of town. There is also live music.

The food is so awful. The tea is very bland. I attend tea time every month at a place in Escondido California that is spectacular. You would think a place in Boston could at least make the tea right. Wrong! They charge for everything at Taj even if you do not eat. Never again! I will not be back. I highly recommend that anyone considering this place find somewhere else. It really is horrible food and tea. I would recommend this tea place close up.

The afternoon tea at the Taj is pricy as you expect a posh afternoon tea to be, but it was really worth it to celebrate a special occasion. Service was outstanding, food and tea were great, ambiance was amazing, very fancy. We even got a special table and a special dessert tray written "Happy Anniversary". I would definitely go again on a special occasion, just wouldn't go more because of the price.

Attended afternoon tea at the Taj for a special occasion with my daughters. The atmosphere was very nice with classical guitar being played. Service was very good, server helpful with all questions. Food was very good as well as tea options. Price is extremely high for what is actually provided but I think you have to enter the situation knowing you are paying for the experience of high tea rather than receiving an abundance of food.
I was surprised with the condition of the carpet. We were in the first seating and the carpet had visible crumbs which was disappointing.
Overall a delightful experience.

Very good as usual. Few minor changes here. The menu is different. Prices are getting pretty high. A few years back it was about $75 for 2. Now it's over $100. Add a Champagne & it's higher. The changes are not necessarily for the good, either. You used to get a small Lobster tea sandwich. Then to a crab tea sandwich. Now it's down to shrimp. Overall still good. The ambience is what keeps us going. Be careful on the cutbacks, however. La' espalier, among others do tea as well.

Fun thing to do while in the city. Hotel is lovely and tea room is enjoyable. Liked the live music. Food served was good but not outstanding and tea unfortunately did not stay hot. The warmers they place the tea pots on don't seem to do their job. Unfortunately service was just okay. Our server seemed overwhelmed and wasn't very attentive or friendly. Once our drinks and food were served she never returned to check in on until it was time for the bill. Was a fun experience but I probably won't be rushing back here soon.

Overall, we were very pleased with our experience. The afternoon tea was well served, and the items were delicious. I had many favorites, and the tea selection is good. I had only wished they seated us at a window, but it was pre-assigned. The only thing was that the waitress (who was very polite and kind) sort of forgot a request for a cup of hot water from my mother until towards the end of our time. she also served it in a clear glass, not a ceramic cup, which made it difficult for my mom to hold the vessel .

We were in Boston celebrating my brother's birthday. I had tired numerous times to take him to high-tea in various cities, but he never wanted to go. Needless to say, the Taj was great! They offered delectable bites in a lovely atmosphere. He was pleasantly surprised by the entire high-tea experience. He especially enjoyed the shrimp bite and was reluctant to share. And if he's happy, I'm happy. Should I ever travel to Boston again, I will certainly make reservations...and do a little shopping at Chanel across the street.

Everything was perfect with the exception of the tea. The tea has to be piping hot. Even though it cones hot it gets cold pretty fast. The flame that is supposed to keep it hot is A gimmick. It does not do a good job. Also the milk and cream are served cold. With hot tea the milk has to be hot.

I used to think the Taj had the best tea in Boston. However, after my most recent visit, I am not so sure. It is still a very enjoyable experience and the atmosphere is lovely. However, they seem to have moved away from the more traditional scones and sandwiches, trying to change things up a bit. I imagine that is more interesting for the pastry team but there is something to be said too for not messing with tradition and executing that both well and consistently. My friend and I received two scones each - one lemon poppyseed and the other contained nuts. Both were small and both looked and felt rather dense. I did not particularly enjoy either. Accompanying them were tiny pots of lemon curd and cream. No jam in sight. Honestly, I would rather have had a couple of the more traditional plain and/or currant scones (that were flakier and lighter than the scones we received) along with some cream and strawberry jam. As well, sandwich-wise, my hats off for the lovely presentation of the cucumber sandwich, but others were sort of alternative versions of traditional sandwiches or, in some cases, no longer sandwiches at all but rather mini tartlets. Again, I would have preferred traditional finger sandwiches here - egg salad, watercress, salmon (not a mound of salmon mousse or gelee?), etc. The atmosphere remains lovely and the service was good. However, whereas previously I would have unhesitatingly recommended tea at the Taj, now I do not think I can without some qualifications about the quality (and quantity) of the food one receives.

The decor was tired, much need in updating. My menu even had a burn mark on the front of the menu. Why would you even hand that out? While food was tasty, nothing was bigger than a Saltin & most was much smaller. For $50 per person I felt I was taken advantage of just for the "theme ". And unfortunately, we were seated next to a table with two small boisterous girls? Maybe a section for children? We were there for a special occasion, so this took away from that. While we waited to be seated (@3pm seating) there was no place to sit, we had to stand at the top of the stairs next to the coat rack. The dessert course was very good! Perhaps that should be served first?

The valet parking eliminates the stress of having to find parking. Servers were pleasant. The finger foods were very attractive and tasty. The tea was excellent. The tables were a little close together so you could hear some of the conversations nearby but not so much that we felt the need to request another table.

My disappointment was the condition of the ladies room. The trash was overflowing and it did not seem clean. My expectations were higher for a hotel of this caliber.

The Taj remains my favorite afternoon tea spot. Wonderful service, best ambiance great variety of tea selection, and the menu of sandwiches, petit fours and pastries are perfect for variety and flavor balance. Our server, Eli, was attentive and right away eased our concerns about accommodating the food restrictions in our party of three (one expecting mother and one vegetarian). The menu always changes slightly each time I've returned so it's nice to be kept on my toes but still know I'll get my favorite staples off egg salad and cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches.

It was a lovely time! The waiter came over often to see if we needed anything, everything was clean, bathroom was clean, food was very good, tea was GREAT, it wasn't loud so you could hear what the other person who was with you was saying, and a man came out and started playing the guitar. Overall a 5/5, would definitely recommend.
