Wonderful service wonderful food, every bite was delicious and enjoyed by all
I dont often eat in Hillcrest as I live in North County. However, recently when I was in the area I decided to try Kyber Pass. I will definitely go out of my way to eat here again, and again! This is not a new place. I believe its been there for 15 years. The owners were there and were attentive. The waiter has been there for as long as they have been there. He was wonderful. I was told that the chef is a native of Afganistan. Wow! What a fabulous meal we had. The meat was like butter and the herbs were out of this world. Every dish was cooked perfectly. We experimented with several appetizers and entrees and each one was the best! I heartily recommend this wonderful family restaurant.
Attentive service and well-prepared food. Beer on draft would be a great addition.
Delicious food and friendly, efficient service. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was prepared healthfully and tasted fresh! Loved the ethnic music in the background and the beautiful art. We'll definitely return!
Khyber Pass' food is so flavorful and delicious. Fantastic service. I'd recommend trying Afghani food here if you've never had it before.
Love this place! Good food and great service! Definitely going back 😊
Delicious kebabs, excellent service.
This is an excellent and healthy option. I have enjoyed the food and atmosphere of this family owned restaurant for many years. Everything is fresh, flavorful and well presented.
Lovely staff. The food was excellent and a great night out with friends. Enjoyed the recommendation for an appetizer and main dish.
We have been coming to Khyber Pass for a few years now and the food is consistently good. Khyber Pass introduced me to Afghan cuisine, which is simply delicious.
Manuel was amazing!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience at the Afghan Khyber pass restaurant . We would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends , family and coworkers.
Delicious food with excellent attentive service in a romantic setting. Great vegetarian and Vegan choices as well as wonderful meat dishes. The lamb with apricots was tender and full of flavor. I only wish I lived close enough to eat there whenever I like.
Wonderful restaurant! Food was outstanding. The service was terrific. The only disappointment was the noise level of the next table...they had smart phones on watching music videos with the volume on high.
Amazing flavors with outstanding service. This Afghan restaurant is the best we have ever experienced. That includes Afghan restaurants in LA, Seattle, San Francisco, France & Germany. Every time we come to San Diego this restaurant is on our DO NOT MISS LIST!
My wife had wanting to take me to Kyber Pass for years, thus my anticipation was high.
We were seated immediately, since the restaurant was only 20% full. Despite the very moderate business, it took my wife and I 15 minutes just get our first offer of water. We got our appetizers 20 minutes after that ( total 25 mins), and we could not help noticing the party of 3 that came after us where being served their main course.
We finally got our main course (45 mins after being seated), and for that wait, the food was average and bland at best. The nan was hard and room temp, the lamb had little taste. Overall, it was one of the poorest eating experiences we have had in 17 years of living in San Diego.
Could not recommend.
Amazing dinner with my husband with an amazing atmosphere, service and absolutely fabulous food!
Food is delicious. You won't go home disappointed. Amazing savory dishes. Always a favorite place to dine.
I was dining alone. I had the hummus appetizer and the Lamb Sabzi, and took home a pistachio pudding. All, especially the lamb, were outstanding.
We have enjoyed several dinners at this interesting Hillcrest restaurant. Food is delicious and very interesting. Service is friendly and attentive. It is one of our regular dining places.
The food tasted amazing
This restaurant has stood the test of time. While others in Hillcrest come and go, Khyber Pass never disappoints. Food quality is excellent, and they have customer service nailed! Highly recommend.
great food in an elegant setting
First visit here. Friendly staff, great service and magnificent food.
Afghani is the original fusion cuisine and Khyber Pass takes it to another level. The food is perfect from the texture of the basmati rice on up. Service was professional, perhaps just over to removed. The decor grates just a bit with over-representation of the famous National Geographic cover on the wall, menu, etc.
Delicious dishes, prompt and courteous service. Enjoyed the decor. Will definitely come back and recommend it!
Food is very flavorful, well prepared, and well presented. Portions are generous. Cuisine resembles Indian but with an interesting twist.
The owners are wonderful people. They make you feel like family, true Persian traditions. The mantu, eggplant and kabobs are some of the best dishes!
The food it delicious. We had mantu, a side of okra, lamb stew and naan. They can really cook.
Six of us went to Khyber Pass for the first time recently, and we loved it. The food was outstanding, service excellent, ambiance very pleasant. Hillcrest has become our dining go-to area. We dine out a lot, and Khyber Pass is now high on our list of places we will visit regularly.
Great first experience at an Afghan restaurant. Loved the ambiance. Very delicious food! Hope to come back again in the future!
I have always had great meals at Kyber Pass. Try their rice with cherries. Either with meat or without. Awesome!
We came here, because our favourite Afghani restaurant in the Gaslamp closed down. We were all very disappointed in the food. There was very little taste to the meals. Thus I am afraid we will not be returning...
One of my top restaurants in San Diego. The food is always so delicious and I've never had a bad experience. You never feel rushed by the staff. I have been coming here for years and will continue to do so. I recommend this place to people all of the time. I realize new restaurants are opening up regularly in SD but let's not forget this gem!!!
We had no idea what Afghan food tasted like, but wanted something special to celebrate a birthday. The food was really tasty - took a while but clearly it's made table by table. Servings are nicely sized, a little pricey but for the upscale look and feel, it's affordable for a high end place. Food names implied Indian heritage, altho the nan is more like a tasty focacia. The wait staff could be more attentive, especially as the food takes a while to arrive. But oh so tasty!
Not that exciting or adventurous. Seems like an old family restaurant. Quaint. Really quiet on a Friday night. Great service, but regular food. Not worth the trip from North County.
We were out of town and looking on Open Table for something ethnic and we enjoy Middle Eastern/Lebanese cuisine. To our delight we found Khyber Pass. We tried the
Garlic naan and their appetizer platter. Very good flavors! I had the khabob platter which was very good. I particularly enjoyed the lamb and chicken skewers which were marinated and well seasoned. My wife enjoyed the veggie platter meal with lentils, pumpkin and other tasty veggies.
All in all a very nice meal for a reasonable price.
I've been coming to this place for probably 10 years now and have never had a bad meal or bad experience. The service is always top notch and the food is always fantastic. It is a permanent favorite of ours and we recommend it without hesitation.
Quality defines this exotic fare. This is my second visit and I have not been disappointed.
Please do not think this is Indian or Middle Eastern cuisine. This is unique however
befits any palate universally.
