We enjoyed our first visit to this restaurant. The service was excellent and well timed. The appetizer specials were quite delicious with wonderful spices and texture. The staff are quite adept at helping make selections if you are not familiar with Afghan cuisine. Entres are quite generous and can easily be shared. Our group are hearty eaters and we each took home half of our entres; the lamb dishes are tasty, a tad over cooked so suggest ordering on the rare side, the beef and chicken dishes were seasoned to perfection and even better as left overs. Again, recommend asking for less time on the grill than more. The wine list had variety at quite reasonable prices.
Over all it was an excellent outing and will consider returning.
My husband and I had the best time at Afgan Bistro! Everything was perfect from the service to dessert. We loved all of the food! Overall absolutely amazing! Go and see for yourself! Make a reservation and try the pumpkin dumplings!
Best dollar for dollar restaurant I've been to in several years. The food was beyond excellent and service was delightful.
Outstanding restaurant. The seating was a little cramp, but the food and service was great, which is what matters most to me. My Family and I will definitely go back. Strongly recommend making a reservation, however the food is well worth the additional effort.
Superlative meal. Everything from apps to desserts was fresh, well seasoned, and cooked to perfection.
The food is amazing but the location and size of the restaurant could use improvement. It's such a small restaurant in a strange out of the way shopping center. Hope they move to a larger venue someday. The food and service are incredible!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the DC area. I am never disappointed with the food or service. It is a relaxing, intimate space that sometimes has live Afghan music playing in the background.
We haven’t been to Afghan since our favorite Afghan restaurant closed near Crystal City. Afghan Bistro exceeded our high expectations. The food is truly authentic, made with care and attention to detail and the service is superb. There is limited seating so a reservation is suggested. Our highest recommendation.
The food is normally great but this time it seemed that the quality was not there . I don’t see the family that own the place that much.
Celebrating earning my Virginia license for counseling
Saw this place listed alongside the very chic and very expensive names we’ve all heard in Great Falls, Little Washington and Georgetown on a “best overall” Open Table email. What? A strip mall in Lorton? Had to try. And was not disappointed. From the tantalizing aroma when you walk in to the very reasonable final bill, a great experience. Where else can you get pumpkin dumplings and cardamom ice cream? Huge portions, too. Atmosphere is what you’d expect from a strip mall, but who cares? Your face is buried in the delicious food.
Exceptional food as always!
As always, an outstanding meal with exquisite flavor, mouth-wateringly tender meat and heavenly vegetables. Flat bread is perfect - warm and crunchy yet tender. The four chutnies provided for dipping the bread offer deliciously contrasting flavors, each quite wonderful. We've been here several times, and each is an outstanding culinary experience.
Delicious lamb and beef combo. Very pleasant and attentive service.
Greatly e joyed the food in a quaint setting. Extremely popular but gracious owner. Omar made us feel feel like a guest in his home.
This was our first time eating here. Seating is tight and the restaurant was packed. Service was very attentive. We ordered a couple of appetizers which were very good. My sister and I had the lamb special which came with a spinach dish and basmati rice, that was fabulous. My husband had the beef tenderloin and was very pleased. My brother had the goat and raved about it. Overall we had a great evening. My only suggestion would be to get a more upscale list of wines by the glass.
Been there multiple times and it is consistently fantastic.
Reservations are a must, especially on the weekends. This is our new favorite restaurant. Everything we have ever ordered is absolutely delicious and bursting with flavor.
The food is phenomenal.! I have never tasted better Afghani food in my life. The service is excellent as well. They are very well spoken and well-mannered. This place will allow you to enjoy an intimate setting with unbelievably tasty food. I highly recommend this place!
Service is wonderful… Warm and welcoming. The menu is diverse and excellent.
We have dined at the Afghan Bistro several times and never been disappointed. Saturdays meal was superb.
2nd visit and was again pleased with how well spiced their meals are. Service was excellent. Will definitely return. Place is small so go early. 1st visit was later in the evening ~8 pm and very crowded but 2nd visit was @ 430 pm and not as crowded.
Exceptional food and service! Reservations recommended. It's an intimate spot with limited seating, and it fills up fast. At 5pm on a Friday, it was almost at capacity. Definitely returning with family!
This was a fabulous meal. We had the lamb shank, beef shank, and lamb tenderloin. The lentil and rice were perfectly flavored to accompany the entrees.
An excellent meal and experience that seems to get even better with each visit.
Without a doubt, this is the best Afgan food in Northern Virginia. They have a 2nd...larger restaurant near McArthur Blvd in DC. Bistro Aracosia.
Afghan Bistro never disappoints. Though I continue to be a bit dismayed about how close the tables are and how small the dining area is, the food and service bring us back time and time again. Larger tables with more space in between and a larger dining room would make this place perfect!
Outstanding food and service every time! I recommend this place every chance I get.
Delicious food! Always a great dining experience & the restaurant's popularity confirms it. This is our 5th time there.
I have brought many friends here and all agree with me that the food is wonderful.
Absolutely perfect meal, as usual! They have the best beef tenderloin kabobs ever!!! And allowed to customize the meal for the Julienne carrots and raisins. Good wine selection.
An absolute gem. We found this completely by luck on OpenTable and now we are fans for life. The lamb tenderloin melts in your mouth and the dumplings we had as a starter would bring us back on their own merit. We will be back and we recommend you stop by as well.
Great great food. Very flavorful. Wine list works well with the food. Service was timely and helpful. Space is small and crowded so it gets noisy. Very small waiting area. On this Friday evening peak time was 7pm. Be sure to have a reservation before attempting to eat here. We went another time at 2:45pm on. Saturday for lunch and thought we could just walk into a quiet restaurant, but it was busy even then. Families and dates in attendance.
Found this place on Yelp and had excellent views so I decided to check it out. The outside is so unassuming but when you go inside it's like an entirely different world. The service is friendly and prompt. But the star is the food and from beginning to end it was all exceptional. I tried their goat special and it was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend to anyone
Highly recommend for food quality, service and value. Often need reservations around dinner hour, even on weekdays. If you have to wait, there's no bar and not much in the area for hanging out and waiting.
Outstanding restaurant. Lived up to all the excellent ratings.
I reviewed previous comments prior to eating here. Everyone was spot on! Do not judge this book by its cover. It’s located in a very nondescript strip mall, but once you enter you will be pleasantly surprised by what you find! Food was AMAZE-BALLS, ditto for service and drinks! You owe it to yourself to eat here (often)!!!
Great meal again. Stews and mazza assortment are great.
Wonderful meal -subtle spices , delicious entrees and excellent service. A gem !!
Highly recommend this resturant
