We Had guests in from out of town, and they thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Afghan Bistro. Thank you very much.
Afghan Bistro was, as always, wonderful. I've dined there four times and it has never disappointed. I'm trying to work my way through the menu; there are so many wonderful choices and everything tastes so good it may take awhile. I don't care for hot spicy food, but I love the way they use spices for flavoring. It's a great place to go with friends and, if you need help with the menu, all the wait-staff is very knowledgeable.
Hidden gem - almost looks closed from the outside, but once inside, we were greeted by the friendly owner and had 4 different staff members attend to our table. Bread and sauces were brought to us right away (fabulous!) and plenty of water. Very casual atmosphere and dress, price point was a bit higher than other Afgan restaurants, but for a good reason. The chicken, beef, and salmon were all very good, but the lamb kabobs were ridiculously delicious. Far too much food for any thought of desert, but we will be back very soon. We went on a Wednesday evening at 5:30, and there seemed to be plenty of tables. By 6:00, the restaurant was completely full! Definitely make a reservation!!!
Excellent food. Good service. A bit of a tight fit and the music was a little too loud.
Delicious, authentic food; great service; waitstaff is very knowledgeable and attentive. This was my third time at Afghan Bistro and I continue to recommend it to others. My friends had never been there, and they fell in love with the place.
We've eaten here three times and each meal was a culinary delight. Everything is expertly prepared with just the right amount of spices. Meats were delectably moist and tender; the flat bread was perfectly warm and soft yet crispy, served with four amazing dipping sauces; eggplant and spinach dishes were delicious; service was fast, friendly and attentive.
The food is Beyond Excellent. Please be patient as it might take a little while till your meal is served. But believe every extra minute would be worth the wait.
In the mean time you can binge on the awesome bread with unique chutneys.
I have to go these place Again many times to try out other things in the menu
Amazing. Loved the staff, very informative about the unique cuisines, and other dishes. Will go again for sure
Fantastic as always
We tried this restaurant out because of all of the great reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was fabulous. The location is a little strange and the restaurant is very small but food and service were outstanding and we will be back! You have to make a reservation because the venue is tiny but that was not a problem.
There is a reason this restaurant is ranked in top 100 of Washington DC area and third in US by Yelp! Amazing food! First time my daughter and I had Afghan cuisine. Explosion of flavors to the palate. Highly recommend.
I would say this place is kind of a hole in the wall, but such a great find! This was my second time dining here, & the food, as before, is amazing. When you are seated, you are offered bread with four different sauces: mild, spicy, sweet, & savory... I wish I knew the names or could describe them better (rookie foodie over here) but all of them taste delicious. Top recommendations are the Hot Mazza Assortment for an appetizer, the lamb dish for an entree (the exact name isn't listed on the menu available online but on the specials menu when you're in the restaurant. It's described as lamb chops in a tomato based stew with basmati rice), & the Cardamom Cake for dessert. I've had bites of several other dishes (my friends & I like to order different things, so we can taste a little bit of everything), & all of them hit the ball out of the park. Seriously a perfect spot for people who love robust flavor & spicy food, both for meat lovers & vegetarians! Quick & friendly service, but do make a reservation though because the restaurant is pretty small!
Once again, another great meal and excellent service.
My husband and I dined at Afghan Bistro on a Saturday evening for dinner. The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. Our waiter was very attentive and not obtrusive. The food was fresh, tasty and delicious. The chutney and warm bread greeted us at the table, that along with a nice glass of wine were sheer heaven!
From the outside, the entrance was unremarkable, but once inside, the environment was cozy and special. The number of tables limited the number of reservations, which enhanced the intimacy of the environment.
Overall, we loved our experience and can not wait until our next return visit. A definite “must go” for those living in Springfield and a worthy short trip for those in the DC metro area.
Visited based on recommendation of Tyler Cowen's food blog (Google it -worth reading) and it did not disappoint. Small, hole-in-the-wall strip mall location shouldn't fool you. The food is wonderful, traditional Afghan food that is tasty and comes in good proportions. Worth a regular re-visit for sure. The staff were friendly and helpful too.
The food is so flavorful, every bite is interesting! One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been too! The four sauces they bring out with the bread are amazing!
We’ve been coming here for years & absolutely love the food. This was our first time in a while & first since the opening of their new restaurant in DC, we really missed the wonderful greeting we used to get from the owner & his family. The gentleman that seated us barely spoke, he just pointed at a table which we took to mean that was where we should seat ourselves. The food was fabulous as always, always too much food for the 2 of us even just ordering the Hot Mazza appetizer & 1 main course but the atmosphere wasn’t the same, a bit disappointing
I've been wanting to try this place for a while because of the awesome reviews. It definitely didn't disappoint. The service was attentive, quick and super friendly. The waitress even fixed our rocky table without us even mentioning it. Best service I've received in a while. The food was outstanding. The bread and dips alone before your food comes out were to die for. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes.
The kabobs reminded me of the delicious food I ate in Kabul, Afghanistan. Very authentic! The atmosphere on a Tuesday night was very quite which was perfect for catching up with a friend. We got great, friendly service throughout the meal.
Great food. Great service. A little crowded and tables too close to one another.
Delicious food, good service and comfy atmosphere.
The food is real authentic Afghan with all the spice and flavor you could want. Make sure you get reservations as it can fill up fast
What a hidden gem!
Everything we want in a fabulous restaurant. Staff is knowledgeable and unobtrusive. Every dish we have tried has been exceptional. (This is our 5th) The glorious seasonings that permeate the lamb, beef dishes are fresh and innovative. Tonight is the first night I tried a veggie dish. Lucious eggplant. OMG I am going to eat my way through this menu. Wish they had cooking classes! Glad they have take out.
Gracious hosts, wonderful variety of foods and tastes make for a perfect evening.
The food was so delicious! Our server had some great recommendations and the hospitality was perfect.
This was my second visit in less than a week. I am visiting my daughter and wish there was an Afghan Bistro near my home. Everything is delicious and the staff is so accommodating.
This is my new favorite food and I’ve bought three cookbooks to try to reproduce this wonderful food at home.
Can’t wait to return to VA to enjoy another meal here.
It's very necessary to have a reservation here because this place is very busy -- and for good reason. I have not been here since they reopened and noticed they had a new menu. Like before however, everything we ate was excellent and the friends we brought loved the food. I would definitely recommend coming. Food can be a little slow in coming out but at least then I know they're taking the time to prepare everything and sometimes dinner should not be rushed anyways! There is plenty of delicious bread and my favorite avocado sauce!
It is one of our favorite spots. The food, ambiance, and service are all outstanding. Can't recommend enough
Great food and service - a definite place to go back to!
Afghan Bistro serves consistently tasty food. For just two people, we often order 3 meals so we have enough leftovers to take home! It's hard to pick something because it's all so good!
This cozy secret is one of my fave's when traveling near Springfield. The authentic fare is well-prepared, presented nicely, and delish. You'll find menu items you haven't seen elsewhere, and it's worth exploring them. Fair warning, portions are generous. The hospitality is warm and inviting. Make a reservation, even on a weeknight, as it gets busy.
This is a very nice restaurant with good food and a friendly staff. Service is slow, but the staff is always smiling and polite. The portions are mostly large, although the quail appetizer was tiny. For the price, they should provide two quails instead of one. The goat was very tasty, but the rack of lamb was overcooked. Go here expecting a family-style friendly place, not a 5 star one, and you will leave full and happy.
We go weekly and the food and service are ALWAYS phenomenal. Authentic family recipes being cooked
We love everything about Afghan Bistro! The food and service are outstanding!
Great little place. I have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. You will absolutely need reservations for dinner. This place is usually full.
The restaurant is located in a strip mall and the windows are blacked out. That might lead you to question whether the place is open or whether you want to go in. Trust me, keep going.
Once you walk in, you'll be in a cozy, well decorated, well maintained restaurant and you will be greeted by a very friendly host.
Once seated, you'll get some warm flatbread with four dips, two spicy, two mild. The menu has many options. I've had a couple of the lamb chop option, beef tenderloin options, kabob options, and veal shank. appetizers and sides are very tasty too.
One word: AMAZING!!
Consistanrly excellent food. Great variety of dishes and tastes. Staff are always welcoming and gracious.
We went for lunch on a Saturday, which was perfect, as it's a little difficult to get in at night. The food was fantastic. I had a beef tenderloin, with rice and potatoes (with an Afghan flare of course). My husband had beef as well, which was served with a lentil risotto. Both were amazing. The beef was marinated and cooked to perfection (for me that is on the medium-rare side). My husband's beef was melt in your mouth tender.
It is a very small cozy restaurant, perfect for a date.
My husband is gluten free and was able to find quite a few things on the menu he was able to eat, including their in-house made rice pudding, but to his dismay, he was unable to taste the bread and sauces they bring to your table. However, he did enjoy the roasted eggplant appetizer.
Our server was very good, friendly and attentive, since the restaurant is small you are never far from having someone help you with anything.
We will be coming back.
