The food, service, and atmosphere is excellent! It’s a hidden gem in the Lorton area.
We were a party of seven so we tried many different things on the menu and everything was excellent. My favorite were the pumpkin dumplings and the vegetarian platter. The service was exceptional. The restaurant is in a little strip mall and looks questionable from the outside but don’t let that stop you. It is cozy and welcoming on the inside. We will definitely be returning!
Lovely atmosphere. Server was very helpful. Food was wonderful. We will definitely be back.
Great food, good service. I wish they had bigger space. Overall great value.
Good food and appetizers. The kabob was not great but decent. Everything else was wonderful. Server was professional and friendly. Would definitely go back.
Afghan Bistro is a special treat! Their meals and selection are outstandingly flavorful and plentiful. Its unfortunate that the dining room is so small but in a way this adds to its charm. The service was slow and I felt that the regulars might have gotten priority attention because two groups were served before us even though we were seated first.
We have never had Afghan food before and this restaurant is phenomenal. We love the flavors. The meats are so tender. We also appreciate our food being served piping hot. The atmosphere is quite small and quaint. An all around exceptional dining experience.
We had a perfect evening at this charming, cozy family-owned favorite!!
Our favorite restaurant in DC! BEST FOOD ANYWHERE!
After they went to reservation only the experience seemed to change, not for the better.
Small and very crowded but food is excellent.
Authentic ethnic cuisine made with care and very reliable visit after visit. Service and flavor is outstanding. Restaurant is a little small and crowded, and definitely recommend reservations.
Outstanding food!!! We go there at least once a month and have never been disappointed with anything on the menu.
I’ve reviewed Afghan Bistro a few times and have always awarded 5 stars. I’m not sure if the owners are now more focused on their DC store but this location seems a bit ignored. The tops on the dips that come with the bread were all sticky and stained. The quail appetizer was not as tasty and well seasoned as usual. Even my regular order of their house specialty, the Lamb Moghuli was a bit bland and not as tender as usual. Not sure but seemed reheated and not fresh from that day. I love this place and would really hate to see it start going downhill. Hopefully management reads this review and takes some action to correct.
The service was very good, although the food took a while to arrive during our lunch visit, when the restaurant was not very full. The food was very good, but their rendition of a couple of my favorite dishes did not quite coincide with my preferences. In particular, the Qabili Palow was served with a leg of lamb instead of lamb pieces, which I would have preferred. Further, the Kadu Chalow was made with butternut squash instead of the traditional pumpkin, which I would also have preferred, and therefore was not as enjoyable.
I’ve been here several times now and the food is consistently good. The place is tiny, like most people’s living/dining rooms are bigger so don’t bother coming unless you have a reservation. The problem I have is with the service. When I first started coming and the guy (I’m assuming the owner) was there, you felt like family. Now the service is very hit or miss. Last week when I went I noticed little things, where the waitress was more attentive/provided better service to other tables. And this has happened before but I overlooked it because the food is really good. Like I said the place is but so big so you can’t really miss or forget patrons sitting there. Anyway, I won’t be coming back because of the service but your experience may be better.
This was our second time dining at Afghan bistro but first time coming for dinner. The food again was excellent as we each tried something new off the menu. The portions are big so come hungary and save room for the desserts which tends to be light and not overly sweet. The restaurant is small and gets crowded for dinner especially on a Saturday night when reservations are definitely required.
Always reliably good!
Some of the best food I've had in the area. The waitresses were super helpful in selecting dishes, and for accommodating a friends allergies. Also, the veggie platter? Life changing!
The food is consistently excellent. The servers are knowledgeable and efficient. You will not be disappointed!
Great food and very friendly staff. Highly recommend- we are regulars. If they were open on Sundays we would go more often.
For our wedding anniversary, dining at Afghan Bistro was an extra special treat. Several staff members recognized our special day multiple times during our visit. We've dined here many times so we're always familiar faces to the staff, but they took it up a notch on our anniversary. The food is so amazingly consistently high quality with remarkable flavor.
I was very disappointed in the service during this visit. I t was very hard to get the waitress’ attention as she seemed to want to chat with the other waitress.
Excellent services and the food is superb and very tasty. Need reservation as the place is always packed!
I have always highly recommended this restaurant. Always had great food and the menu has amazing choices.
This local Aghan restaurant is awesome. The quality of the food is extraordinary and the service is always excellent. It is small, so reservations are recommended. The lentil soup and the chicken lawaan are my favorites, but everything is excellent.
The food as always was delicious! The service is prompt and friendly but you come here for the wonderful authentic food. Mouth watering!
This was our 2nd visit to Afghan Bistro, and it won't be our last. We love the warm friendly atmosphere almost as much as we love the food!
This place is amazing almost impossible to get a table that’s how good it is we have been going there since it opened and have never ever been disappointed !! Have tried all the dishes and all I can say is AMAZING !!
A true local gem. The food is delicious and the portions generous. We’ve always enjoyed this restaurant. Enjoyed chatting with the chefs daughter and she made great recommendations for foods to try.
The food was excellent, about the best Afghan food I've had anywhere, and portions are generous. The 25-minute wait for a table, however--25 minutes after the time of our reservations, that is--was a little off-putting. Then, after just being seated, we were seemingly arbitrarily asked if we would move to another table. We declined to move. Then, after having a glass of wine and a "small" salad--it was actually quite large, and very tasty--we were mollified and sat back to enjoy the rest of an extraordinary meal. We tried the lamb, the vegetarian sampler entree, and the mantou. All were wonderful. Do try this restaurant, but not on a Saturday night.
Food is delicious, not outrageously priced, and quality is consistent. Service is good. Space is limited and not conducive to private conversations if diners wish to have them. Last time I was there, sign on the door said walk ins would not be accepted that particular evening and reservations would be honored. In spite of that, I still recommend this restaurant and am a repeat customer/diner.
What two wonderful nights of dinner I had there last week. I said to my daughter that I wanted to eat somewhere different and looked up on the internet somewhere new and Afghan Bistro came up. We were so pleased that I took my grandson there a few days later. This restaurant is a must for everyone. Thank you
This food was phenomenal. I ordered the lamb shank. My husband ordered the lamb tenderloin and my mother in law ordered the lamb shoulder chops. All of us were completely satisfied with our dishes. We will definitely be going back.
The food here is always seriously delicious! The saffron chicken is wonderful and the cardamom cake is to die for.
Excellent as always - we’re regulars... but they’ve gotta bring back the darker crusted and crispy Afghan bread with seeds and salt on top. What they’re serving now is mighty bland. Apart from that, this is a great neighborhood spot. Delicious, authentic, high-quality, fairly priced. The Firni dessert is our favorite.
Amazing hole in the wall! You feel like you are walking into a different country. five star food, service, and atmosphere. Romantic, cultural, and refined.
Neighborhood gem- delicious food and excellent service. Intimate and friendly.
Professional, attentive but not intrusive staff; wonderful, high-quality food and environment conducive to conversation. This is my second time at Afghan Bistro, and I'm looking forward to future visits to try other menu items.
As always, food & service were great! Never dissapoint!
